My Review of The Bodum Double-Walled Latte Glasses

I like these glasses. They're expensive, but very attractive, feel solid, and completely shield your hand from hot drinks.

@itsbojan I was using a Panasonic GF1 with the 20mm F1.7 lens. Video autofocus is, as you can tell, hit or miss with that combo.

There is one big problem for this bodum double wall mug ,there is no bottom hole which will cause crack when temperature change suddenly, this bottom hole will balance pressure when temperature change suddenly

I apologize if it wasn't visible but there is indeed a vent at the bottom of the mug.

Nice video. The on-line reviews to which you allude are indeed off-putting, though. I'd like to see a follow-up review as you posted this over 3 years ago. As things stand, I'd be reluctant to buy this product.

I only have one of the two left, although that is no fault of Bodum. I dropped a flatware knife onto the other and shattered it. My remaining glass has a stress fracture where the top of the handle connects with the bowl of the cup, but it does not appear to travel through the glass nor does it appear to be growing. It has been there for over a year. All in all, I'm very happy with them and would definitely buy them again. The only problem from a drink-making perspective is that the flat bottom on the glasses makes latte art a little bit difficult as opposed to a more hemispherical shape.

Aaron Martin-Colby OK. Well I truly appreciate that response and information. I'll mull over what you said and decide if we should give these very cool cups a try or not. Whaever, coffee rules! I'm sure we agree on that point ;) But I think it is worth adding that ultimately nothing lasts; everything is evanescent and impermanent.

@@AaronMartinColby how about now? Are they really fragile? Would you buy them again? What about Schott Zweisel?

@@samuelmanny6231 One has been sent to the big Cafe in the sky, but by no fault of its own. I dropped a knife on one a few years ago and it shattered. The other cup developed a small crack near the handle but this has not proven to be a problem. It's merely an aesthetic idiosyncrasy. My one major criticism of the cups is that the base is not truly hemispherical. It is flat. This makes pouring latte art more difficult. It's why you see latte artists usually pouring their work into small little hemispherical cups, especially if they want to pour something complex like a swan or dragon. Aside from that, the cups have proven robust, attractive, and well-insulated. I've bought many more mugs from bodum and I have enjoyed all of them. On a side note, a local restaurant also uses double-walled glasses, specifically many of the same bodum cups that I use. For them, the cops have proven incredibly fragile in the hands of their customers. I haven't had any problems with metal spoons being dropped into my glasses oh, but I did want to break one dropping an ice cube into it. as such if you're going to buy these I recommend picking up a set of light wooden spoons. They will be much less likely to cause damage to the glass. I haven't used the glass brand that you mentioned, but if the idea is the same, that I would imagine that the considerations are the same.

Thanks, Aaron. I took a sneak-peak of their instructions at Macy's yesterday, and it says it's dishwasher safe if done 'separately'? Does that mean not touching other glasses or what does that mean? :} Thanks!

Not at all. It's not a lot of glass, but it's still glass, and it still absorbs energy. I want to keep as much energy in my espresso pull as possible.
