My review of the Bessey Racheting Table Clamp

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Model # TW16-20-10H with Ratcheting Action handle and 4” throat
I believe this clamp was originally meant for use at the welding table. I liked the idea of a ratcheting hold down clamp for my bench top - I find it works very well for my purposes.

I am curious, with as much pressure that this applies, it seems to tilt the bar pretty hard to achieve it. Do you find that it is slowly elongating or expanding the dog hole opening in the wooden top? Meaning, is it stretching out the hole in the top? Thanks.

Looking at the holes I can't perceive any malforming - but I susp3ect it has to some very small degree.

I have the same clamps but with a not very clean 20mm hole they are unable to hold down thinner material (18mm for example).

I had the same problem - but the thick pad I put on mine allows me to clamp thinner pieces

The tilt is really significant. Are the holes a bit too large or is that a general problem with those adapters?

The holes are slightly large but doesn't effect the clamping power.

I have been unable to find a retail source for this clamp and the 3/4” adapter. Can you refer me to a seller? Thank you.

They seem to be more common in Europe - but I did find them on Amazon www.amazon.com/Bessey-TW16-20-10H-Clamping-Element-7-87In/dp/B01DX9APB8 www.amazon.com/Bessey-Bench-Adaptor-Benches-TW16AW19/dp/B01ETAH7NO

What do you think the minimum benchtop thickness would be to use these?

The posts that go into the top are about 2 3/8" long. My bench top if also about 2 3/8" thick. I just now drilled a 3/4" hole in a board that is 1 3/4" thick - seems to work fine. I then planed the board down to 1 1/2" thick - still seems to work fine. I would assume that 1 1/2" would be OK - but I've only done a short test

I would like to use this clamp, equipped with the rare but sometimes available alternate 20 mm adapter for it, on a typical MFT table with 19 mm thick MDF top. So I too wonder about the minimum thickness required for the clamp to exert pressure without pulling up out of the hole. If the clamp will function on the 19 mm top, a second concern is whether the force exerted on the opposing top and bottom edges of the side walls of the 20 mm holes would deform them so as to compromise their ability to function as accurate reference grid for sawing, etc.
