I worked on semi-trailers for about 20 yrs. and these thermo trailers can be heated with a few candles, and that little AC unit will freeze you out of there. 3' thick insulated foam walls. 4" thick in flooring and 2" roughly in ceiling.

As a parent with 2 acres I would gladly allow one of our grown children to nestle into a build like that and give them a financial running start. You could easily add a space for a baby/toddler to give a young family room to grow AWESOME JOB!

Way easier then dealing with a 40' container, even a 20' move on a roll back. Hit the plate, hook up the air, check the lights, your out of dodge NOW! Add on's, cubic foot wood stove if needed, propane stove and water heat, then the show runs with a 2000watt generator. This way you have ALTERNET USE AS NEEDED. as is still great job !!!

Good job on the build. If it's for you and your wife it would be perfect. If you were to sell perhaps consider these suggestions. I would have done a mini split system for the heating and cooling, with all the electric high output, the trailer would need panels and a solar set up to eliminate the the need to shore hookups & and tankless hot water heater. I would also just do the outdoor water intake and seal the doors in the back of the trailer to prevent thefts.

Hello I am working on another one here and I am stuck on going the propane route or staying completely with a 100 amp service electrical and repeating the last one. I am trying to avoid all the red tape with permits etc as every municipality or district seem to be different.... whatever route we go will be done by journeyman tradesmen so the quality and safety will be there. I'm trying to make as marketable as possibly I could go with a propane stove and fridge, on demand propane hot water and a propane dryer. I could use a propane vented fireplace for heat but I have to figure out how to distribute the heat. It will be located near one end. I do have a two inch space above the ceiling joists down the length of the trailer. For power I could have a rv plug which is easier to get installed in existing yards etc or use a 5000 watt generator. Biggest demand would be the water pressure system, air conditioner, toasters etc. Solar is possibly but adds to the cost and complexity. Woodstove or pellet stove is also a consideration? Long post hear but I would love to hear about readers experiences, ideas good or bad and suggestions. Located in Manitoba where it frequently gets to minus 40 to plus 30 Celsius in the summer. I've looked into mini splits but not really doable for our winters from what I've read Thank you very much!

@Mike Annetts You need to leverage the widely available propane furnaces (40,000 BTU from a Very Small component), hot water heaters (dual mode, gas & electric), power fittings (you Really can't have an electrical cable poking through the wall), etc. You also need drawers & cabinets that won't open when you're rolling, firmly secured fridges & appliances, etc. Spend some quality time with a good (Monaco) motor home before your next build. That thing would be a Disaster if moved after it was inhabited.

Queastion??,, hauling this mobile home through different states, What effects are there concerning DOT, Weigh stations, Federal Regulations concerning this? Im asking these queastions inpart because from the outside it still looks like a commercial vehicle. I drive a fuel tanker truck everyday, so i know there are some queastions about this. If i were pulling this past a weigh station and did not stop, chances are the state police would be on my tail quik. Now i do have a CDL , so im not worried about that, just the part about weigh stations and DOT interface. Id love to hear your feedback on this. Did you have to register it as a welfare unit/trailer or is it legal to drive it on road as a "refer" trailer on paper? What would happen if you got pulled over?

You would register it as an RV, which is what it is after that its no problem. You would have to put private vehicle not for hire on the truck though

Speaking as a former truck driver, it all would depend on the condition. I've seen dry vans go at auction for $5k, but they usually need tires, brakes, other work. A decent reefer would probably run you about $8k-$10K. Be aware that the refrigeration units as built are powered by diesel, and diesel exhaust is very bad for the lungs, probably the reason it was removed. As an asthmatic, I understand that, but think this build should have retained the factory refrigeration unit, modified to run on propane or natural gas. Also, be aware that sometimes a load of meat or eggs will go bad in transit due to unit failure, leaving a horrendous smell, so be sure to properly inspect any potential purchases. It could very well be the reason the trailer is being retired.

Now trailers are so hard to come by you'd have to buy a new one for 100k and wait a year to get it. Before you could find a 15 year old trailer for 15-25k

This is better insulated also built much stronger than a fifth wheel with there weak 2 inch walls. Also it’s made to park on property not tow around the country. A trucker would charge maybe 400 dollars to move it. 5th wheels are garbage and fall apart

@@larryferd1510 Definitely something you would ideally park on your own or a friend's land. If you worked a job where you moved every year or so (restricted due to moving costs) and you could find trailer/RV parks which would allow this tiny home then it could be quite nice. You'd have your own space which could probably handle many moves without issue and it is very well insulated. One thing I'd want is mini-split for heating and cooling.
