In general terms, the more intense the two colours (and the fewer distracting zones) the more valuable the bi-colour gemstone is. Because parti sapphires are so rare, it is difficult to gauge value. The best things to keep in mind when looking at these sapphires is how clarity, cut and size affect value. you might want to check your tailings for a big one.

I second your statement about not putting your hand into holes in the ground. There are some strange Australians living on Flinders Island who go Mutton Bird hunting in the birding holes on the island. They say “If you put your arm into a hole and feel something warm, it’s a Mutton Bird. If what you feel is cold, it’s a snake. And they stick their arms down those holes repeatedly. Crazy, if you ask me.

Very strong colour, it really hits you when its rolling in the pan. Oh! so that is what I'm finding, those dark stones are sapphires and you also get garnets that look like rubies.

@@shamich4861 ya to move the giant rocks they hide the gold most times because they slow down the hydraulic force of the water and cause the gold to drop out of the flow of water and most rocks in gold bearing areas are iron bearing and heavier than your average rocks 👊🏻

Love your parti sapphires. I guess gemstones make great indicators lol. When I'm out looking for sapphires I usually pan for gold too.

A little tip for anyone digging in murky water. placing a line up the shovel handle (for me it is on the top 200mm or so) that is "on the top" when blade is horizontal will help avoid tipping anything off when lifting and currents or rocks start to move things about and you may be unsure of what plane you are in.

Here in the southern USA it is a good idea not to stick your hands in holes because you might lose a hand or die but we like to go noodling. For anyone that does not know noodling is when you stick your hand in a hole in the hopes of dragging out a giant catfish.

It's good to show detailed pan results like you do so that it is more educational for others watching. It is all about testing to accurately outline a deposit. This fall I got 1500 specks in a pan awesome discovery right next to a large zone with zero. Normally the distribution doesn't work like that but it can. Thanks for helping to spread the fever! P.S. Nice sapphire! I've seen pans full of garnets but never a natural sapphire like that.
