Country music is not the only genre to do a lot of sad songs. Their slower tempo and having the singer's voice above the music instead of buried in high volume music. Pretty much everything I heard Adele sing is about misery. " Smoke on the Water" is all about a tragic real life fire, but the music is so catchy most do not really think about its lyrics. Abba, " The Winner Takes It All " and these are just a few that come to mind right now.

There's a great interview of Dolly talking about Whitney's version of the song. Apparently she knew they were using it, but she wasn't sent a copy before it was released and the first time she heard it was on the radio driving home from her studio. Said she almost wrecked the car. Had to pull over. She couldn't believe they took that "little song of hers" and turned it into something that big. She's joked over the years when asked if it bothers her that a lot of people think it's a Whitney original that she didn't care if they give Whitney the credit, so long as she keeps getting the check! lol She made a mint off of that. It's a beautiful song and her rendition of it very tender and passionate. Which makes sense, given she wrote it.

A college friend of mine worked for Owen Bradley Recording Studios in Nashvillle in the seventies. She used to see Dolly frequently with no wig, just a bandana, no make up, jeans and oversized shirt............ and she was absolutely gorgeous. And, she is tiny.

Gitana, Dolly Parton wrote this song and she did an amazing job. She did have a hit with this in 1974, then ten years later she did have another hit with it again. Dolly did give Whitney Houston the okay to use her song in the movie The Bodyguard and Whitney did have a monster hit with it. So three times that song was one number in thirty years or so. Dolly Parton thought Whitney did that song better than she could have.

Hello Half Pint & GITANO'S!!! Hope everyone has a amazing weekend! This was wrote by Dolly Parton & produced by Porter Wagoner - it the only why he would let Dolly leave his show! As your other comments say the song was wrote to say goodbye to Porter Wagoner and his show - a nasty legal battle between the two began soon after! Long story short they made up years later, Dolly even bought Porter Wagoner music catalog when he was in bad financial times - but Dolly gave it back too him no charge many years later! This is just a absolutely gorgeous song & she look so sweet here!!! Much love & positivity Half Pint & GITANO'S!!!💙💟💙

Dolly is amazing! I've never heard any other artist with such relaxed attitude to her looks. Like saying it cost a lot of money to look so cheap, an referring to her front, nothing grows in the shadow of these. That was when she was asked about her thin waist. Or when she said she would burn her bras, but it would be a very big fire. She is also a tough businesswoman, and not to forget, a great songwriter and artist.

She’s obviously a beautiful woman, but I don’t think she’s appreciated as an artist as much as she should be. When this world loses Dolly, it will have lost one of the most special people it’s ever known. It’s rare that someone comes along and through their just existing in the public eye, you really feel like you know the person never even meeting them. Top notch person.

When someone asked her about all the credit Whitney Houston was getting for this song, Dolly replied. “She can have all the credit, I just want the cash”. Pure vintage Dolly!!😂😂. However, I think her greatest song is Coat of Many Colors. If you haven’t already reacted to it, this a great song to do that. It’s a true story of her early life. Looking forward to your next video.😎👍👍👍

Fresh-faced and confident she was, even then. She was confident enough of a business woman to tell Elvis Presley, "No." when he asked to record that song. She knew she would have to give up all her rights to it (like every other writer did in order for Elvis to record their songs), and she knew her songs could be worth more down the road. And, she was right.

Allen seems to have real heart and soul, which was evident during his earnest, appreciative award acceptance. Hopefully we'll be seeing a lot more of him in the years to come. A sad story about Dolly Parton is that she hasn't got any own children with her husband...but she have many nieces, nephew's & also the real life Godmother of the famous Miley Cyrus before she end up in TV-show Hannah Montana as her Godmother-role

Dolly’s version - vulnerability and feeling Whitney’s version - power I like both, depending on my mood.

The difference between Dolly's and Whitney's version is that Whitney sing this song to the entire world, Dolly sings it to you. Great reaction.

Dolly is such a wonderful human being. One of the few bits of country I can listen to. If you want one of her more "fun" bits, there's the entire movie or a few songs from it, called "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" (not a porn, really).

I heard an amazing version of Stand By Me done by a group called Bootstraps, like you will ever read this. Couple of amazing songs off of the Lethal Weapon tv show soundtrack, not that you will give them a chance.
