It's probably been said a million times before , but the main problem with guessing the ELO without knowing the time control is that 1500 rapid is the equivalent to something like 1350 blitz and even less in bullet. So in game 1 Levy really isn't far off at all if he assumed it was blitz. Really, Levy ought to know the time control before making his guess.

Thing about ranking systems in any matchmaking game: There are such small factors that make a player better or worse than their opponent. For a whole game their weakness can be hidden, and for other games it can be entirely about their weakness. It's not always easy to see what rank someone is.

Two corrections for you: First, the 2.f4 move order is still the Grand Prix Attack as demonstrated in Hodgson and Day's book on that opening circa 1980. Second, Bc4 is the optimal placement for the bishop when Black commits their d pawn too early with ...d6. If they don't commit the d pawn before White moves the bishop, THEN it is best to play Bb5.

Did you miss the part of Levy's channel where he tells people to simply play solid chess and not try to perfect every single move because they're not GMs and they don't know how to think like a GM? Bc4 is optimal. For a GM. Not for the average person who doesn't know what to do from there.
@Ben-ff6hc
Жыл бұрын
@@joefoulger3510 that doesn't mean that Levy giving conflicting information should be ignored Also the 2. f4 thing is significant because after d5 black is slightly better (or at least equal), which is why grand prix starts with Nc3. Kinda surprised he didn't mention that to be honest
@joefoulger3510

@@Ben-ff6hc You still don't understand the point. It doesn't matter if black has a 0.1 advantage after d5. The average person playing chess doesn't know what to do with that advantage. 17:10 just a bit of context for this. Gotham isnt wrong regarding his statements but his conclusion is kinda off. I used to just play rapid until 6 months ago when i was stuck around 1300 and decided to play some bullet for the lulz. After over 1.5k bullet games I ended up at around 900 elo where i still am today (peaked at a bit over 1k though). I then went back to rapid and peaked ~1600 and actually stayed there longer than i thought i would but dropped back down to 1500 recently. so yes, I usually only play rapid and not bullet and my peak rapid rating is 1600 but that doesnt mean that my bullet rating in the video was total bs. id say over 1.5k games is enough for 900 to be pretty accurate.

Boxing tips Footwork: needs the most work, that short clip looked very flat. Balls of your feet. Jab step needs to be with your jab. Then step hard for the hook. Then back out. Range: You start in like that you'll get clocked. Start out. Find range with the in with jab steps. Drill that a lot first. Proper shoes would help. Power: It looks like you are timid. Using all arms instead of committing with the body. That hook is your power. You step in correctly but gave up. Put your weight in by pivoting hard. Stance looked good and basic ideas were there. Got a bit too wide at times. Keep it up.
Anna and Andrea have now both been featured in Guess the Eli. So my question is, Hikaru when?

I can never get enough of guess the Elo. Funny and learning
10:11 Hasn't the central fork been refuted by playing Bxf7? I still play it because nobody knows the trick but I would be a bit concerned about that bishop. In this game perhaps the rook makes the king safer but in the classical central fork before castling I don't know if it works anymore.
