Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.
Informing, Educating and Inspiring
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

if human children are endangered, have knives on their fingers and tend to kill smaller animals and eat them, then yes i think there would be a lot of certificates you need to get before working with them. but the truth is there arent even enough teachers for children right now with current regulations so think again.

You do look like a St. Bernard, Martin. 😉
Martin your story about your relationship with your golden eagle is very interesting. Your love for this raptors, especially for Scout is so real and your voice, the way you handle each individual bird, the tender way you treat them and your love for rescuing and releasing them proves that you are really blessed. May God give you many more years of devotion, health, and strength to continue your work. 🙏🇺🇸

This is an amazing video. It has been my dream almost all of my life to hold an eagle on my arm and to work with them. I am a bird lover and have been as long as I can remember. I’m 61 now but had I watched this video 25 years ago I would do all the things Martin did as stated in this video to be able to do what Martin does today. He is so blessed to have this as his career...so very blessed. These birds of prey are absolutely amazing and to me...the most fascinating creatures on this planet!

Uh oh, now Scout is going to tell all the other eagles your secrets! LoL He was intently listening the whole time you are speaking. What a beautiful relationship you have been blessed with. I had a Double Yellowhead Parrott buddy Milo for 35 years. Milo felt the same way about me. If I misbehaved I got a nip. Then a nice hug. In 2010 Milo went to sleep and crossed over. I still miss his Hello each morning. I raised cockatiels and now have a cockatiel buddy but there is nothing comparable to having a large bird as a friend.

I am from Northern Mississippi and I have seen many hawks, but I am not sure if I have ever seen eagles here- some large hooked billed birds near big lakes but I don't know what they were. I loved your show and the beautiful birds were a joy to see. When I was young, I spent much time with older people. My Grandmother was born in 1878 and she was next to youngest of 12 children. They all talked about killing Chicken hawks at every chance. In the old days hawks were very unwelcome in our part of the country. Farm folk a few years ago and even when I was young all raised farm fowl, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, guinea, even peacocks. The farmers killed hawks on sight because hunting birds killed the farm animals. In those days farm families allowed farm birds to roam and only put them up at night if at all. They put them in the chicken house or a coup to protect them from owls, possums, weasels, fox, coyotes, big cats (bobcats panthers/cougars etc.). I have known many people, even game wardens here, that don't believe the bigger cats are or were here, but I have seen a very few in my nearly 70s years. When a cat looks as big as a German Shepard and has a tail longer than your leg it is not a bobcat. I did not believe this myself till I saw two or three over the years in the wee hours of the morning. Anyway, I digress. Now days you don't see many farm families that raise chickens and such unless they raise them by tens of thousands as poultry producers. The good news is I have not seen or heard of anyone killing large birds or hawks in a long time. I know I would not. I even try hard not to hit the owls you sometimes see on the road or in a bush on the side of country roads and no one wants to hit a buzzard to start with. They can drop a load on you from either end. I have known a person or two that this happened to after disturbing a roost. For some reason I wanted to say a thing or two about the times and the big birds plight here in the past. Thank you for your good work and the video. I am too far away and probably too old to help much but I appreciate what you do.

I’ve lived with companion parrots since 1980. Ive raised from a baby one of them, but the other 3 either came via rescue. Ive been told that even if you were able to raise one from a nestling before eyes open like a parrot that they will never bond with a human. Molting occurs twice a year, once in spring and once in fall.
