    Eh, I mean it can be. Tactics can be a simple or as intricate as you want them to be. Depends how flexible your units are. Many tactics are preexisting strategies used through history. We think its "easy" because we've never had to use them. But once you apply them to a war game or real life, where your not playing a computer and things can change on a dime. Then yeah, it can get pretty advanced. Also, its a lot easier to win when your opponent acts like a big baby. I bed it would be a whole different story if he was up against a competent player.

    Honestly, hes overplaying how good his gameplay actually was, the only real tactics described are the flanking manoeuvre into thhe back line, the 4th edition Chaos book (aka The kjhorne army list plus a some garbage) was broken, beyond broken even. That downside hhe described where the berzerkerss would loose their shooting phase to run at the nearest enemy was barely a downside, since berserkers were terrible at shhootigbut amazing in close combat. Andtbhh most ofthhepeople playing the list were basically the kind of people that pull off a completely low skill, highpower move ad the sit there with ashit eating grain like they've actually done something of note. (Yes its been over a decade and yes Im still pissed at GW for making every new book completely outpower everythhing else after this point.

    If you make an army that is entirely meant to revolve around 1 mechanic, you just have to realize that if you play against an army that counters that mechanic, you are going to get crushed. It's very very simple. Plus, it really seemed he was projecting what he was doing onto Gamza. "Your army is broken and you're a cheese player" I'm sorry, but who's army is built around solely abusing a single mechanic that makes it impossible for the opponent to play the game?

  • @bobdole8830

    @bobdole8830

    It's simple but effective. Back in WHFB time I played an high elf army list that was 90% on horseback. Back in those days your armies were 2000 points plus 500 points to switch arround before a game (without seeing your opponents army, at least i the tournaments I played at). No one expects cavallerie when playing against elves, so they all removed their counters for that and I won several tournaments in a row.

    oh yeah we get those in TCG games all the time. They're called "Netdeckers" because they just buy a deck that won the last tournament. Problem with that is two-fold. 1. Everyone who is worth anything knows what decks won the last big tournament and are at least somewhat prepared for it. 2. You're a whole season behind on the meta. Always funny to watch them rage at why their perfect OP deck isn't winning ^.^

    The player either didn't know other armies because nobody at his FLGS played them, or he knew the rules of other armies and soft-cheated all his local gamers by making them take pinning tests they didn't need to... it's just sad when people expect that to work at a tournament. I think most people who have ever played more than a handful of games have faced someone like this. Heck, the first day my brother and I played in a new shop when we moved to Florida, my brother forgot his Eldar/Craftworld codex (3rd edition), the dude didn't believe a rule my brother used, so my brother went to the shelf, took a retail copy of whichever Codex/supplement, and showed him the rule. When dude knew he was losing, he intentionally cheated by misusing his own rules, so my brother quoted, verbatim, his own army's rule and corrected him. Suffice to say my brother won fair and square (even though he had to force the fairness). The dude was like in his mid 40s, had been to GTs, lost to an 18 y/o, threw a hissy-fit, packed up his army in a hurry, and stormed out.

    Had a similar incident happen in Age of Sigmar. I was playing Bonereapers. My opponents army was built around fear bombing, with units that lowered bravery, weapons that lowered bravery, artifacts that lowered bravery, and spells that lowered bravery. He kept stating this when we started, how he was gonna make “those skeletons run home crying to mommy.” The very first turn, he told me to take a Battleshock test, and I promptly informed him that Ossiarch Bonereapers don’t take Battleshock Tests. I’m not sure how he didn’t know that huge defining trait of our army. He was flabbergasted. And kept saying, as I was destroying him, “I would beat you so easy if your army took Battleshock tests.” I spent 25 years in the infantry and finally had enough and said. ‘If if if. If your momma had a cock and balls, she’d be your dad.” He just shut up and lost, and refused to shake my hand, then reported me for cheating because I refused to take Battleshock tests. They laughed at him.

    The last tournament I played in was back in early 2010. 16 players. 4 rounds. I was playing my Tau army, comprising a leader in a crisis suit, 6 crisis suits, a single broadside suit, and about 40 fire warriors. I didn't think the list was overpowered at all; just stuff I enjoyed playing. I lost every battle I played in, and in 3 battles, I was tabled by my opponent. Regardless, I had a very fun time, and only one of my opponents was a douchebag. Fast forward to the winner announcement, and I was named 1st place. Apparently, regardless of my lack of victories, I amassed enough points in the Painting, Army Selection, and Sportsmanship categories to win the tournament. So it's not always winning the games that count.

This guy basically took about 35 minutes to do one thing, and without fail he took like an hour to play his turn. What set him off was when: He had a bunch of Heavy Guns and had been wrecking my dad’s tanks. About one was barely alive, had lost its main gun, all that fun stuff. This guy then deploys Rough Riders to harass and destroy my Dad’s back lines. He was stupid and deployed them at the edge of the board, so my Dad tank blitzes them right off it. This dude was so pissed because his whole strategy was fucked up, he rated my Dad as low as possible on everything for his experience, my Dad didn’t even do that despite this guy obviously deserving it

    I had a similar experience during a tourney several years ago myself. My playing Death Guard with some IW-Khornate allies vs a mishmashed minimaxed Sisters and IG force. Guy cheated his arse off and every time he tried doing something (with cheating), he failed and I then handed his ass to him. He'd fail to use tape measures to move his units, he failed to 'remember' rules that could hurt him. It almost came to blows as he threatened me when I started to hose a vet squad unit with 3 melta guns that parachuted in (without him rolling for deviation) and failed to kill off a damaged vindy with only a combi-flamer left on it. I hosed his unit and he started arguing over 1 model. 'You only hit 8, not 9, out of the unit of 10!' Tourney organizers got called in. Was epic. He was the type of guy who gloated over his past wins, playing with an unpainted army, and was trying to be 'nice' when he was winning. But when he lost troops, he'd pick them up and toss them forcefully into boxes and gripe. Poor sport, poor loser and he cheated his past opponents out of games during the tourney too. I was a regular who ritually won best painted and best general (etc)...except for best sportsmanship because that was an award to the guys to took it up the ass and never complained...not to people who won all the time.

His army comp WASN'T a bad idea in theory: Pin enemy till they can't see straight> push Guardsman forward> enemy army is essentially pinned to death> tanks go brrrrrr> win. Your army of fearless lunatics HARD-countered the entire battle plan his army was built on and he had NO backup plan. Add to that he was a big baby, had a wife or w/e who sadly must have been used to him getting mad really easy, and the battle of the mid was lost pretty much on turn two onwards. I have a super milar story but not on WH40K- Battletech. The game store I used to play at hosted an ongoing Battletech campaign, with unit repair, different mission types, persistent damage and the need to stay on top of logistics throughout the campaign. It was a lot of fun. We started out with something like 7-8 different companies but by the middle of the campaign they had consolidated into 3 main groups. One was lead by a guy named Orson, and he was the organizer for the overall campaign. In general a pretty nice guy but way to smug about his Battletech game knowledge. His main tactic was to take his mech- an Archer which is a long range missile boat- and park it on a rise or cliff on edge of the map. If anyone charged him or he started taking damage he would just reverse his mech- off the map, thereby disengaging and preventing any major damage to his mech-. It was highly frustrating. The company I played in basically accepted an assassination mission to wipe out his command lance. Ours was the weakest of the three remaining companies but thanks to some strategic victories we had a ton of credits and resources. I talked my CO into letting me customize my mech- a Warhammer- normally a medium range fighter- into a close range variant with jump jets. I had played against Orson a few times and I knew his tactics and he knew- or thought he knew- what my mech- could do. We were playing in the most basic version of Battletech- all Inner Sphere, no clan tech. Modifications were hugely expensive and almost no one made drastic changes- but we had credits to burn. So the game starts and Orson works his way up- very slowly- to a cliff on the corner of the map. Just as he's in position my lance and I charged his location- fainting an attack at the other members of Orson command lance, who had all taken up positions in water to better use their high heat guns. I worked my way around the outside of the main fight- still fighting the way anyone familiar with a Warhammer would fight- until I was just a couple of hexes away from Orson's Archer. Now with the movement rules in Battletech to reach that cliff would normally take at least 2-3 turns as it was surrounded by steep cliffs, rocky terrain and heavy forests. Orson isn't paying too much attention to me because I didn't have line of site to attack him and I didn't- normally- have enough movement points to reach him quickly. That's where the jump jets come in. In Battletech jump jets can ignore elevation level at or under their total move- 4 points in this case. Orson was on a 3 high cliff- so no problem. On the next turn I had initiative meaning he moved first- and he chose not to move at all- making it much easier for him to hit targets, but so very easy to be shot. Again, he was expecting the terrain to protect him- until I jumped in right behind him. The shock on his face was legendary. Not only was I then attacking him from where his armor was the weakest, he had even moved 2 medium lasers that normally face the rear of the Archer to protect from just this kid and of attack to face forwards, leaving him completely vulnerable. Meanwhile I had ditched most of my mechs wide assortment of medium range weapons for medium lasers and machine be guns. Orson knew what was coming and tried to torso twist his mechs body away from me to try and protect his vulnerable bits- and it resulted in a rules debate that had to be settled with the books- it was clear the torso twist did not effect hit facing- the mechs feet was the only deciding factor, so he was dead caught. I only hit with about half of my attacks but stripped about half of the rear armor away that turn. Next turn he won initiative, so he made me move first- which I did by standing still. He thought he was just going to walk around me and off the back of the map- but he had to change facing to do that and the rough terrain caused him to spend too many points just taking a single step- so he ended up one hex over, still facing away from me. He forgot he couldn't move thru an enemy occupied hex. I proceeded to forcefully remind him that his rear armor was toast, scoring some critical that knocked out half of his weapons. Next turn he had to choose from trying to escape again by backing off the map or moving forward off the cliff and take some massive fall damage. He chose to leave and was able to make it off the board. I didn't score a kill against him that day but he was salty as all hell over that. He tried to introduce rules to prevent hiding enemy load outs but that was shot down by the other players real quick. We had one more game in the campaign and Orson pulled the same trick again but backed off the map real early when he was targeted by some other players who tried to use my tactics against him. His company lost that fight and lost some major resources too- like a mech repair facility and a dropship. After that he never wanted to play again. It was too bad, aside from him being a smug coward that was a very fun campaign.

    I once played against a Rules Lawyer. That was “Fun”. I was using Nids against his guard. I would sometimes use Genestealers in a Anti-Tank role. Which they were surprisingly effective at. So I hit one of his Chimeras with the Stealers, he hadn’t moved, so it was a bunch of auto hits. Got a few sixes with rending claws. So that was str4+6=10, chimera rear armour was 10. Rending claws got an additional D3 when attacking Tanks. But because of the whole both values being ten, I just said that they were pens. The RL just looked at me and said I should roll my D3s. I stated there was no point, I have effectively penned. I was stubborn and refused to roll. So much so a Marshall had to come over, and sided with me.

    I had someone laying similar to this in a game of command in mtg. 4 guys, myself, a buddy, and 2 random guys. Dude was just being a dick to my friend and the other random. He brought an entire deck around not letting others play the game. I was running a deck where I could just choose stuff to die when my commander attacked, I also had a lot of enchantment and counter spell hate in it. This dude actually flipped the table when I killed his commander and wiped his enchantments. Got himself banned from all stores in the area.

    The only time I've complained during a game is when I played my Imperial Knights against my friends Necrons in a league game. I wholly expected to lose as I told him constantly that knights are weak in 9th ed. It took me about 4 months to fully buy and assemble the 5 model army. The entire time I was doing that I was hearing about how broken knights are and how easily it's going to be for me to roll any player with them. Yeah right lol. Constantly told him that that would be easy for me to decimate a unit of powerful models or one big model. We get into the game and I lose the roll for first turn, that turn two of my knights are half healthed and one is half that profile because of C'tan power, so first turn that knight is hitting on 5+ instead of 3+. I told him he won primarily because of first turn priority. If knights go second that could be the difference of first turn with 5 models or second turn with 3 models. At this point I really can't even move my units because of the giant silver mass in my way (we were playing on a 4x4 table) so I was essentially pinned in my deployment zone. On my first turn I manage to destroy a couple units. A squad of 10 immortals and Skopehk destroyers. At this point I was already salty because all I heard about from him was how overpowered knights are how he's going to lose to them. On his second turn his King and Void Dragon take down two questor knights leaving me with a dominus and two warglaives. On my second turn I don't kill anything in his army. Third turn comes around and both my warglaives are gone leaving me with my Dominus at half wounds. And he says to me, "you can concede at any time." Right there that triggered me a bit because I put up with so much complaining about Knights being strong up until he kills my two questors. So I'm in full salt mode because the person that did all the complaining is now telling me that I can concede if I wish. I was losing the game off objective control anyway so I conceded. I still shook his hand and we play games every week. The thing that triggered me the most was him saying, "I don't know why you're complaining this bad" after I told him I knew going into this game that it was a loss for me and that losing first turn priority was the nail in the coffin.

    I took starwars armada for serious at launch. The dodana build that let you bypass shields and deliver a crit to the hull (if I remember properly) was op. And of course I tested it out at a tourney with a heavy fighter fleet. I had one game where I had to keep explaining to my opponent, in detail, why and what was happening. Not including some other rules he tried to tell me I was very wrong about. Eventually we had to call a judge over to clarify and explain that we were playing properly. The judge hung out for a bit and caught my opponent doing a few illegal moves (stuff I wasn't 100% on still) and confronted my opponent. The yelling got loud enough that a few others had walked over with popcorn in hand. My opponent decided that following the rules were for babies and just packed up and left. The store gave me the option of take points for stuff I already killed OR take 50% fleet value as points following the usual forfeit or disco rules (it was a house tourney) I had to settle for the half fleet cost which was only a few points ahead. I was well on my way to clearing the map of his ships and could have easily gotten the full fleet points... which is why the other guy just noped out. Denying me points that would ultimate cause me to tie for 2nd instead of competing for 1st I forget the guys name now but at the time I was seething. I did get a bonus "sorry for your luck" prize from the store cause they understood what had gone on. I wish I had the income to continue to collect sw armada. :( great video tho!

The kid put his librarian in front of 4 of my iron warrior lazcannon marines in the open ...... so what would any of us would do I shot the bloody hell out of that librarian. The kid trys to flip the table gets stopped by the shop owner, told to go home and chill out and not come back for a week. Reminds me of a guy I played back in 3rd Ed, He came up with a tactic he called a Mobile pillbox. 10 Devastators in a Rhino. (Back in those days half the squad inside could fire weapons out of vehicles, including Heavy Weapons.) I knew he did this so I took it to the next level, Obliterators were released squad size was 10, and size wise they each counted as one model for carry capacity. I put a full 10 man Oblit squad in a Landraider, did not tell him then played him. He put down his Mobile Pill box, I set down my Mobile Firebase. His pillbox didnt last one turn. Up side was he never used that tactic again no matter who he played cause he was afraid of me telling people how to defeat it.

    I remember back at a similar point in time, 4th ed 40K. Playing in the Dominion Day Irish tournament. Facing off against a GW staff member. We we're both using Eldar. He was using a generic army while i was using the Craft World rules which had only been around for a few moths at that point. My chosen Craft World was Iyanden so 3 Wraithlords & 15 Wraithguard as the back bone of my army with 2 units of Banshees. in Wave Serpents. Possibly other things I don't remember now it was 16 years ago lol & not a single guardian in sight. A good solid close range army. I completely tabled his army after a quite competetive game as we had many overlapping unit choices. It seemed quite congenial during the game & i gave him a decent sportsmanship score as we'd been laughing & joking the whole way through only for him to give me the worst sportsmanship score i got the entire day. Guess some people just don't like loosing. My only loss the entire tournament came in my final battle against an Ultrasmurf player who fielded as many devestator squads with missile launchers as he could. Still gave him a decent score even though he wiped my army taking very little losses due to my army being a close range army as previously mentioned & most of it dying before getting close enough to do anything. He won the tournament & i ended up winning Best General so we both finished happy at the outcome.
