The Romero being inconsistent is a shotgun problem, not a Romero problem. It's ironic you'd say that because the Romero has the most consistent one shot kill in the game. I've point blank shot enemies In the chest with the specter and missed getting the kill.

difference is that when you use crown and cringe you can just keep shooting so RNG does not matter as much. RNG goes against you using romero? Well you are so slow that someone might just knife rush you. Its also why the rival is so loved before the slate took its place.

Yeah, I feel like most of the complaints he had about the Romero can be resolved by improving your movement and positioning differently. You can avoid taking engagements in the "Royally screwed" area without too much problem, once you get into a compound the Romero absolutly decimates enemy hunters. The Romero is one of the best weapons in the game for defending OR pushing a banish site. It's an amazing weapon for solo play, I've wiped so many duos with it.

@@N0031inq Even though you can keep shooting with the crown and “cringe”, it only holds 5+6 reserve. So if you constantly need more than 2 shots to kill someone with a shotgun, why not just bring a Nagant Officer, New Army, Scottfield Spitfire or even Dolch? You can keep shooting those almost just as fast while being more consistent and ammo efficient. The Crown and King is overrated as hell after all the nerfs

Not gonna lie I am a big Romero user and I think you are 100% right about the importance of play style in assesing the usefulness of a weapon. It's not an accident that I find myself using the exact sort of tactics you describe in this video most of the time when I play the game. The thing I will add is that I really find myself going to the Hatchet once I have it unlocked since, with such aggressive tactics, melee range is never really that far away and a lot more versatile than the slightly better accuracy of the handcannon. Also...you must being doing something right if Crytek adds a weapon to the game just to spite you XD.

Does the romero handcannon actually have tighter spread than the romero hatchet? They used to have different stats, but in patch 1.4 they both got buffed and now they have the same range/damage stats listed in the store page. Seriously, the springfield deadeye compact is the most underrated gun in the game. Give it some dum dum ammo and it is a beast of an opening weapon. Headshot and they die and the range and accuracy is surprising. Get a chest and that dude dude you hit has like 2 seconds to live or they die from bleeding so you can blast them then push so that they have to engage right before they bleed out. So, this combo is surprisingly deadly when you need a cheap load out.
Play style is definitely key. Not a meme weapon at all.
The main problem i have with the Romero is how punishing it is to miss, it is arguably the strongest and most powerful shotgun in the game but it really requires the user to have good tracking and environmental awareness. I dont use it that much (even though i used to be a sparks user with no life) purely because of how frustrating it is to miss an impactful shot or get killed by the hunter’s teammate. I dont think the gun should be buffed or nerfed though… its still an extremely solid and cheap option that can give you some kills if you play to its advantage

I use the Caldwell double barrel with Flechette. It jusr works 😂
I've been using pretty much nothing but the Romero Alamo since the update dropped. The Romero just feels a lot better than most of the other shotguns the extra range on the Romero gives you just a bit more freedom and margin for error on your positioning whereas the increased pellet spread and follow up shots of the other shotguns gives you more margin for error on your aim personally that a trade I'm definitely willing to make.
All it takes to LOVE the Romero is to expect it to take 2 shots to kill. That way you 1) learn to play around the reload and use cover to dominate other players, and 2) you’re pleasantly surprised when it does kill in 1… 😉 In all seriousness it is a great budget weapon, there are $500 dollar guns that are far less effective than it in certain situations. The Alamo is also well balanced, for around $100 you have a slightly slower specter that can still be used to effectively wipe teams, albeit not as quickly as a specter or slate.
@cassidy8307
Жыл бұрын
It's not slightly slower, it's twice as slow compared to the specter. Makes the alamo pretty pointless to me, since you only shoot around 0.5s faster compared to a regular romero

@@cassidy8307 it’s also twice as cheap. I’m not saying the Alamo is goated or anything, a normal Romero is just about as good. It’s fun and funky though, and can still kill people so I’ll take it
You already nailed the point that the Romero doesn't match your play style. For players who struggle to utilize things like long ammo to their full extent, because they suck at precision aiming (me), the Romero is an excellent choice for perkless loadouts. I personally love to pair it with the Scottfield Spitfire with FMJ. Played aggressively and quickly, this can easily carry you to 5 star lobbies. Something not covered in the video is that if you're bringing along a Romero, you shouldn't be using it as your primary form of aggression. It's a VERY powerful one shot opener that should immediately be swapped after firing to capitalize on the pressure done by the damage (if it doesn't 1-tap). I only have my Romero out when I know it's to my advantage. Otherwise, I'm holding a midrange and fast firing pistol. Personally, my only gripe with the Alamo is that it's a long barrel with multiple shots with access to slugs that requires no traits... Right after they nerfed the slate with slugs for that exact premise... And it's radically cheaper than the slate... We're gonna see it a lot.
The Romero Hatchet with dragons breath is the way to go. It may not have the one tap power that you could have with the full sized romero with slugs, but it makes up for that with the fear you will teach to those unfortunate enough to be set on fire and chased with an axe.

Y’all make it look easy ♥️
I love that you mentioned my favorite meme load-out. Shoutout to that prestige where I played nothing but double romero hatchet from game 2 until prestiging. I was able to make it somewhat work by giving both hatchets half buckshot and half starshell. I got pretty good at hitting people with starshells when they were out of shotgun range which would put them in range for the swap and followup with buckshot.
Shotguns being inconsistent is a feature, not a flaw. If they were consistent 100% they would substitute melee and other rifles. Although I do agree that not knowing when your going to fail is frustrating.
A few notes: The area of useful vs useless is a problem with literally every shotgun (every weapon to a degree) but the Romero gets hurt the least by it. Each shotgun only has a short effective range and beyond that they suck but the romero's tighter spread keeps it more useful for longer. Pellets missing is just the nature of shotguns, since your shot breaks apart you can have all pellets hit the target dealing devastating damage, some peel off making it hurt less or most miss and do almost nothing, the narrow spread of the romaro defends against that more than some other shotguns. The Romaro is the most consistent on a shot per shot bases but lacks the followup if rng did you dirty, back in my BF1 and BF5 days the only shotguns I liked were the double barrels as they were the best blast per trigger pull shotguns at the cost of slow followup shots. While I have not played with it, if the Alamo works like the bow with special rounds you can still have some regular buckshot + some of what you chose and given its faster fire that is not a bad trade off to lose out on 1 extra flavor of shotgun shell.
Romero, schofield with FMJ. Budget loadout of the gods. 60% of the time it works every time.

sounds exactly like it should feel to me. when i heard it was coming to hunt i could see 2 possible outcomes. Best non semi auto shotgun that messes with verity or a clunky but functional gun that i would love as an aggressive player.
The randomness of the kills with buckshot really goes down if you treat it more like a slug shotgun and aim it instead of hip-firing. Since the spread of the pellets is so thin the romero whiffs a lot more at close range if not properly aimed. Pennyshot helps a lot in this regard, sacrificing some range (although it can still surprise in that regard) for a lot more consistency in short range scenarios. Also pennyshot is a huge help for quickly dispatching bosses. For the Alamo I found it best to just play it like the regular version and enjoy the slight benefit of a higher rof while slipping in and out of cover, it's still way to slow to stand your ground if the first hit didn't kill, swapping to the sidearm also still makes a lot of sense.
Tbh I haven't used the Romero all that often either, until the Alofs appeared. And now I still get more kills with the Rival despite its worse spread.

With this gun being added, it's only fair to also add the magazine system for the martini henry, it would be the 1:1 rifle equivalent to the alamo and make for a cheaper but still faster firing long ammo rifle
Nice to hear, that it is not just my bad aim, if sometimes enemy Hunters survive my Romero shots point blank. :D Personally the Rival is my favorite pick for a shotgun and is probably the easiest to play. If an enemy survives the first shot or another one shows up the nearly instant follow up option with the second barrel comes in really handy. Although I already unlocked the Alamo I still have to try it for myself. A few weeks ago I kinda fell in love with the basic Springfield for some reason so I do not feel like playing shotguns at the moment. 😅
I feel like they made some changes to the consistency of one shot kills with shotguns a few months ago, I remember the shotguns being pretty consistent then an update came out and I was whiffing on a chest shot where we were basically touching noses, I may have gotten worse but this was when I was playing every single day and knew almost every weapon like the back of my hand

Not to rob homereels content but the reason I enjoy each is that the slate is the fastest firing shotgun that still has decent range (looking at you crown and king). As for the new army, it fills a similar spot as the nagant officer as a fast firing, low power pistol. At that point it is personal preference which one you enjoy using more. It can take fmj which is nice, but not really needed if you plan on pairing it with a long ammo gun as a close range option.
Love your guides Home
I play VERY aggressive so the Romero hatchet with Springfield compact with half dum dums is my go to cheapish loadout and it slaps. Dum dums often force people into cover which gives me opportunity to cover ground to then use the Romero hatchet. The Romero hatchet has clutched me so many rounds because of the following up with melee. It rewards pure aggression and it can pay in spades. I often to default to Romero hatchet because it is more forgiving for misses due to being able to follow up and mentally I place the one hit kill range real close so it often surprises me with how far I one tap people.
I find that the Alamo is just a straight upgrade if you want me to be perfectly honest its only tough in those situations where you burned all 5 shells and then have to sit there and watch your hunter scramble to move the transfer tube out of the way. Regardless the Romero is pound for pound the best shotgun in the game, I see three variants being actually good, the handcannon, the base version and the alamo all for less than $100. The Rival handcannon is $85 and has horrific range, the base Rival is $100 more than the Alamo, the Specters base variant which is how we will base the rest of the shotguns is $188 and the Slate is $250 with the C&K being $600. Out of all of these the Romero has the best range, damage, and spread pattern, the only thing it lacks is fire rate and mag capacity but for less than a quarter of a Slate or half a Specter I'd take the Alamo everyday cuz like HomeReel said its an uphill battle and thats regardless of the shotty youre using which is a problem that I feel like will forever be prevalent in Hunt. See you cant have shotguns be consistent spread monsters right, as in a fixed pattern, that would be stupid. You also dont have an answer to this issue unless you do something crazy like scale the damage to where the hitting pellets do the full damage of all the missed ones too but then that would be dumb as hell at range unless you scale back the damage idk its a big issue but its kinda the trade off of having shotguns in games. You cant make them the hyperlethal things they are in reality because then why use a rifle when a shotgun will do the same if not more damage at 50 yards but yeah the Romero is the best shotty no contest.

tbf for me the alamo is the opposite and always rather have normal one, more ammo in reserve, more flexibility since Alamo isnt all that faster and you need to play it like normal one, you can also animation skip on normal romero to speed up the reload which cant be said about Alamo. So Normal, Hatchet and Talon it is for me (no reason to not take Talon now unless you are rly hurting for money)
My biggest (and probably only) gripe with the Alamo as of now is how easy it is to accidentaly cancel your reload. "Whoops I forgot to wait for the hunter to pull back the hammer before swapping weapon, time to repeat the whole thing". It's the only gun where I have to actively check the hud to make sure the next round is chambered, which makes it feel kinda clunky imo
Hitting an enemy with starshell and yelling "He's tagged!" is fucking hilarious
I’m just here to say that the extra O joke made me quite literally spit-take my drink, well played sir
I remember and this happened many times that i headshot a player really close to me like 3, 4 meters away with romero buckshot. It played the headshot sound effect but didn't kill. I was shocked after that. This happened to me in around the patch where there was a glitch and every wall disappeared from the buildings. After that i started using spectre which them also sucked for me so I chose c&k after that which to be honest cant easily 1 shot but you still have a high fire rate and more ammo. but it was expensive too so switch to romero hand cannon. It worked a lot for me as it had 10m range but a lot more spread so i killed a lot of people with that.
I hit the prestige button for the first time and now that I have nothing to lose I'm certainly playing like I have nothing to lose. Using the Romero like I have been since prestiging combined with the experience and understanding I have for the game now, I'm out there just knocking hunters to the ground and taking names. To borrow from R6:Siege, it's like playing Bandit with the M870 shotgun. It's fun to do and feels good.
"My heart has been broken too many times" is a perfect description for the Romero.

I miss my budget loadout . Romero and Cadwell conversion pistol
I really love the romero. It's still probably second place to the classic double barrel, and I do love me some terminus with levering; but on a fresh character this long shotty really works for me. I find it's got the most reliable (for shotguns) shots, and the flexibility and large ammo pool is a pretty nice boon. The only reason I don't always pick it, is if I know I'm going to be pushing a building by myself, it's very awkward to run in, kill a guy, and then just be staring at his buddy for a few seconds. The alofs kind of solves my problem-sure you lose the shot flexibility, but that just brings it in line with all the other shotguns, and while it's slow, it still feels way faster than the normal romero and coupled with the strongest shotgun shot in the game, it's a beast. Now the specter on the other hand is hot garbage. That thing feels slower than the romero, and I swear it shoots dust.

Funny thing. Ive always preceved theromero as the most reliable shotgun in hunt. I‘ve always had a bit of a broken heart when playing the rival… interesting how subjective preception can work…
Main advantage of Romero over other shotguns is that each individual pellet does more damage. That is why other long barrel shotguns have 12m kill range and Romero has 15m. And I know that when playing the shotguns, it seems like the spread is a huge random factor, but if you actually replay your hits without kill, usually you'll find out your aim was not quite right and spread had nothing to do with it even if it feels like it did. Getting kills at the edge of each shotgun's kill range requires you to aim almost directly in the middle of the upper torso. If you aim slightly left or slightly lower, you won't get the kill.

Not gonna lie, I use the Alamo with my sawed off mosin every time I can. It’s so fun for me. Hit them once with the mosin and quick swap to a hip fire
My thoughts on the alemo are that it’s not worth using against a regular Romero tbh, sure, you get 5 rounds to fire, but it takes around the same time to take another shot that it would with a regular Romero, so realistically it’s no real benefit, plus a regular Romero can take slugs with regular ammo or 2x special ammo
