Mine will be the oly 17mm f1.8 for street photography,Oly 45mm f1.8 for potrets,oly 30mm f3.5 for some macro images and also have the oly 12-40mm f2.8 pro for versatitily.

Recently checked my lens statistics and clearly found 1. M.Zuiko 60mm 2.8 2. M.Zuiko 12-40 2.8 Pro 3. M.Zuiko 7-14 2.8 Pro Mainly for landscape and macro. On the future wish list is the 8mm 1.8 Pro 😍... But still feels to exotic for the price and range to use it.

I can’t argue with your selection as those are kick ass lenses but I switched from Sony & Fujifilm to Olympus because of the smaller rig since I run and gun so I have the 1.8 version of those lenses plus I’m still married 😁

Thanks for another fascinating discussion. My trinity? Primarily for travel, cityscapes, portraits, as a passionate hobbiest, not a pro: 17mm f/1.8; 12-45mm f/4 pro; 12-200mm f/3.5-6.3. But also, the tiny 14-42mm EZ zoom, 9-18mm f/4-5.6 (really, an overlooked lens that delivers wonderful results for me), and 12mm f/2.0 find their way into my bag -- the EZ lens, especially, for daytime street shooting. Small and lightweight goes a long way with me.

This as with all of Jimmy's videos was very informative.

Mine (paired with E-M1 II): M.Z. 12-40 2.8 Pro M.Z. 40-150 2.8 Pro the next one to complete my trinity is planed to be M.Z. 7-14 2.8 Pro

You've got some very impressive editing skills because the background of the 40-150 2.8 often gets very busy and not nearly as smooth as the 1.2 pros. In these examples, I can't tell the difference. Nice work.

Interesting choice of lenses. A lot of people complain about price, size and weight of the m4/3 pro lenses. Full frame SLR and/or mirrorless equivalent lenses can cost 2x the price and are huge.

I find the Olympus 45mm f1.8 works very well with my EM10 MKII for portraits. The Panasonic 25mm f1.7 is a goodie too. Of course, I'm not a professional photographer but they'll do for me.

Well, i would say this depends on the type of Setting. I would go: Outdoor and Wildlife (my Area) 7-14 F2,8 12-100 F4 300mm F4 (plus converter) (the 100-400 can be however an alternative) Wedding /Portrait 17mm 1.2 45mm 1.2 40-150mm F2.8 Reportage 17mm 1.2 12-40 F2.8 40-150mm F2.8

As an amateur I am on training and do this with the 25 1.8, and when travelling I take the 17 mm 1.2. and the 12-100 4.0 with me.

Grate choice

You make a great point about the CA. Although I only just bought it a week ago or so, I love the tiny 45mm f/1.8, I've seen from the test shots I've taken that it does suffer from quite a bit of fringing, and flares quite a lot, and in not the nicest way, when shooting into the sun ("yes, but why would you do that?" I hear almost everyone say ;) but like you, I love the drama it adds to a shot). Still, that lens would surely feature in a holy trinity of best value lenses for the system. And as you said, the 1.8 primes are what many users, coming from bulkier systems, appreciate most. However, you make a very good argument for stretching to at least one of these three lenses, if you're looking for the best image and build quality, plus weather sealing.

If I was a professional photographer making a living from their photography and videography work then I would certainly have the 1.2 PRO lens in my kit. As an amateur - my choice has chopped and changed over the past few years. My current lens line up includes the 12-200mm f3.5-6.3 - my so-called 'swiss army knife' lens that sits on my OMD EM1 MKIII all the time. The LAOWA 7.5mm f2 when I need to go wider and several primes 12mm f2, 25mm f1.8, 45mm f1.8, 60mm f2.8 macro. and 75mm f1.8 I have just added the new 100-400mm (and I have the 1.4x teleconverter). So for my Street, landscape, and a bit of wildlife photography, I have, what for me is a fairly comprehensive suite of lenses that balances decent image quality vs size and affordability. But as you rightly say, Jimmy. There are no absolute rights or wrongs and everybody's mileage will vary. It's just great that manufacturers like Olympus and Panasonic cater quite well for this.

Fantastic selection... I agree with your choice of lenses as the "Trinity" of essential lenses... As for me - I have a four lens combo that I carry with me everywhere... Panasonic-Leica 15mm f/1.7, Panasonic-Leica 25mm f/1.4, Panasonic-Leica 42.5mm f/1.2 and my Panasonic-Leica 100-400mm f/4-5.6... However... If at the time I had bought an Olympus Body (I seriously considered the Olympus OM-D EM5) versus my Panasonic G9 - I think I would have bought the same lenses as you have highlighted here...

We have both f2.8 pro zooms for documentary work. I've always wanted to add the f1.2 primes for interviews but already have the voigtlanders which are all geared and considered as our "cine" glass, though manual. On the cusp of getting the 12-100 f4 for traveling.

You mention the 25 Pro rendering and I agree with you that in RAW processing, if you wish, it can take sharpening without looking harsh... so a choice from "organic" to "clinical". I have never owned another lens with this ability.

I have a boat load of Olympus lens. The best is my 300mm F4, the 75mm F4 and the 22-40 F2.8. But my all time favorite is the 17mm F1.8 on my original EM5. That combo just made you wake up wanting to shoot.

Amateur here! I've had good luck with the 12-40 Pro and the 40-150 Pro. I also carry the 17mm 1.2 and use it for low light and some street applications as well as some family shots.. These have served me well.

The three lenses that always come with me when I travel: Leica 8-18mm, Mitakon 25mm f/0.95, and the Oly 40-150mm f2.8 (with the 1.4 and 2x teleconverters in case I'm doing some wildlife stuff)

For me it will be the 3 f2.8 zooms. They are just so versatile. 3 of that on my EM1 mark 2 in a Hadley pro bag and I am a happy camper hehe

These are what I currently own; 12-40mm F2.8, 17mm F1.2, 45mm F1.2, 60mm F2.8, 75mm F1.8, 40-150mm F4-5.6R, 40-150mm F2.8, 300mm F4.0 IS, and TC14. My trinity is the follows since I am into both family and wildlife photography. 1) 17mm F1.2 2) 40-150mm F2.8 3) 300mm F4.0 IS + TC14 :-). Cheers

I'm amazed you never need anything wider but fab lens & pics. My kit has evolved the last couple of years but now I guess it would be : Pana Leica 12-60 f2.8-4 (Super versatile, fast at wide end, weather proof & a decent macro lens at tele end), Olympus 9-18 (Small lightweight & cheap ultra wide option excellent at 9mm end, that can also double as a "std" lens) and the Olympus 17 f1.8 (Low light option or when you want to keep things as small as poss). Rich

Agree with your focal lengths, but I find the 25 1.8, 17 1.8 suit my needs. Hard to justify high costs of Pro versions, but I am a hobbyist, some less kind, would say snapshooter! May purchase the Pro zoom, but would need to try on my Pen F and OMD bodies to ensure overall balance not upset.

I have the 1.8 trinity and I love them, no matter of the 17 being a little soft. On the other side the 45 is stunningly sharp anh has a delicious bokeh. The only downside is no to be wheather sealed, but if it begins to rain, all I have to do is to use the 12-40 :-)

Today I got my Olympus 25mm pro and I completed your holy trinity (17mm, 25mm, 40-150mm + 2x Teleconverter MC-20). Some other lenses I enjoy: Sigma 56mm f1.4 for portraits - small tele and Olympus 60mm f2.8 for my macro experiments.

I have the Oly 17mm F1.8, Oly 45mm F1.8 and the Panasonic 25mm F.17. All three are excellent. They are small and light with amazing quality. They are affordable too, I don't think other systems provide such great options as m43.

Bonus lens would be the Olympus 12-40 2.8 Pro. For shooting any kind of event this all-purpose performer is a must in my view. The versatility cannot go underestimated, and the image quality is delicious. My most used is the 17mm prime however, and will tuck the 25mm f1.8 in a corner of the bag because it's tiny and can be useful for portrait and food shots - especially in times I want to remain as unobtrusive as possible. As for a long zoom, I prefer the Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 pro lens because it has lovely rendering, weather-sealing and is much lighter and smaller in size compared to the Oly 40-150. I happily sacrifice the extra focal length range for the benefit of size and weight without compromising IQ. I also shoot video using Panasonic MFT's, so I do have a rather wide assortment of both brands mixing and matching as I need. On a final note, one can never underestimate the Olympus 45mm 1.2 or its tiny 1.8 little brother for that matter... if you desire stellar portraits.

Totally agree with your thinking. 12-40mm for almost everything, complemented by those small fast wide-normal primes. I've yet to really get in to very telephoto for portraits. When I do it will be with the Panasonic 35-100mm f2.8 Pro 😎

What makes 12-40mm so great for me is its close-up capability on top of all other goodness. I have used many systems with many standard zooms and there are very few lenses that can keep up with Oly's 12-40mm.

Hi Jimmy. Here is my current lens trinity.1) Panasonic 12 - 35mm F2.8 This was the first lens I bought for my GH4 to do underwater video with GH4. Now use with G9 and EM1 mark ii. 2) Olympus 60mm macro Absolute must have for macro / close up work and also works extremely well for tight long distant shots and even portraits. 3) Olympus 40 - 150mm. Super lens. Incredibly versatile and excellent when use with both x1.4 and x2.0 teleconverters. I am currently waiting for the release of the 150 - 400 pro telephoto with inbuilt x1.25 teleconverter as a part replacement for my Panasonic / Lumix 100 - 400mm which suffers very badly from stiff and jerky zoom action - particularly in hot countries. I could hardly turn the zoom ring when I was in the Gambia under the sun !!!! I may also consider buying the Olympus 7 - 14mm for wide angle and the intended 100mm macro lens to replace my Samyang and Nikon equivalent macro lenses which are useful when I cannot get too near an insect. Just getting back into video with my G9 and EM1 mark ii !!! Take care and stay safe

Still relevant in 2024! I'd have to say, the 7-14mm f2.8 pro, the 12-40mm f2.8 pro, and the 40-150mm f2.8 pro. Mostly do travel photography, and this kit is small/light enough for a full day exploring and versatile enough to cover everything (except super low-light scenarios). Mind you, also get a lot of use out of the 8mm pro fisheye, the 20mm f1.4 pro and the 300mm f4...

Spending most of my time in a forest with the wildlife Mine would be 1) Olympus 60mm Macro 2) Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 3) Olympus 300mm f4 pro Until I can afford the 300mm f4, I will make do with the 75-300mm mkII

Nice to see some of your photography... and an interesting personal take on the the holy trinity of lenses... I am lucky enough to have the three pro zooms... and love them all... although the one I was most excited to buy (the 40-150mm) has so far been my least used... and the one I was least excited about (12-40mm that came as part kit when I bought the em1ii) is my most used... the 7-14mm gets a fair amount of use as well...

I have similar trinity vision :) But we have different set already completed. I already have 12-40 Pro and 40-150 Pro, looking for 7-14 Pro. You have 12-40 Pro and 7-14 Pro, looking for 40-150 Pro.

My trinity right now is: 1. 40-150mm 2.8- versatile for my wildlife photography (snakes, wading birds, and birds of prey) 2. 60mm 2.8 macro- smaller reptiles, insects, spiders 3. 45mm 1.8- human and pet portraits Bench: 40-150 vanilla, Oly 75-300mm, 30mm macro

Super video! I'm seriously considering all of these lenses. I currently shoot with a Lumix G9 and my primary lenses are the Oly 12-40 f/2.8 and Panasonic 35-100 f/2.8, both excellent. I have a 56mm Sigma f/1.4 that's surprisingly good for $300 that I paid for it. I'm doing more professional family and other portrait work and need to invest in some other lenses but I'm stuck wondering whether to continue investing in MFT or (gasp!) get into one of the FF mirrorless systems. Here's my reasoning... The f/1.2 Olympus lenses are stunning and of extremely high quality. However some of the newer optics from the likes of Nikon, Canon and even Sigma (Art lenses) are also top notch. The depth of field I can get from an f/1.2 on MFT is just a hair shallower than I'd get with f/2.8 on a full frame. But a very good 24-70 f/2.8 zoom from any of those other brands would give me excellent image quality and the convenience of a zoom lens for around $2200 USD (or half that with Sigma!). It seems like I'd get almost the same capability of the f/1.2 Olympus primes, all in one single lens when DOF equivalence is considered between MFT and FF. I'd cover the equivalent of 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 70mm (not quite 85 but still good for portraits) in a single lens. Not as tack-sharp as primes, but good enough for the work I do and the prints I make (and usually I tend to soften the look of portraits anyway). The FF lens will be heavier but not THAT big, and then I have the option with that system to go into some really amazing f/1.8 or faster primes, plus higher ISO performance is better. But I'd be starting over in a whole new system. And probably paying $2K for a body and another $2K for the lens. I could get all three Oly primes for about $850 USD each if bought used, in good condition. I don't know if I'd get the Oly 40-150 when I already have the Panasonic 35-100 and it does very well for me (and is small, with extra stabilization in the lens). So is my thinking messed up here? Why would I choose to switch among a trio of MFT prime lenses, vs. just get one f/2.8 FF zoom?

Totally agree with the 17mm F1.2. Arguably the best m43 general purpose lens. It's the only native m43 lense I own. As the rest are from the original 43.

Walking the trails of a local nature park I find the following lenses most useful in capturing wildlife and birds: Olympus 12-100mm f4 Pro Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 Pro (occasionally with 2x teleconverter) Olympus 100-400mm F5-6.3 (with1.4x teleconverter)

My micro 4/3 trinity: 14mm f/2.5 Panasonic lens 20mm f/1.7 Panasonic lens 45mm f/1.8 Olympus lens

My Holy trinity is the 75mm F1.8, the 17mm F1.2 and the 60mm Macro. Those never leave my bag. The only lens I alternate them with is the 12-100mm F4.0

I just can't just go with three lenses since I photograph so many different things. Right now my kit is the 12-100/4.0 and 100-400/5.0-6.3 zoom lenses and then the 17/1.2, 25/1.2 and the 45/1.2. This evening I am photographing an event (a baby review party) and I will definitely have the 17/1.2. 25/1.2 and the 45/1.2 in my kit. I might add the 12-40/2.8 and the 40-150/2.8 to the kit. So many great lenses and I just don't have a set trinity of lenses. Love your video.

LOL, yes I do have lots too. Just if I have to narrow them down and see which ones I take out for all my jobs, then they are my trinity.

Hello everyone. My setup is mostly Sigma. Sigma 16mm f1.4 Sigma 30mm f1.4 Sigma 60mm f2.8 And of course the Oly 12 -40mm f2.8 Sigma Never failed me. Absolutely sharp images with the 1.4 lenses which they are my church set-up and for portraits the 60mm f2.8. Sigma 60 is so sharp that I use it for my product photography.. Next is either the Sigma 56mm f1.4 or the 40-150mm f2.8 if money are found. If you hesitate for the Sigmas... Don't! I can do anything with them with my old EM1 (original) and EM5 mkII.

Some Olympus user go with the Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 but then goo with there Panasonic 35-100mm f2.8 because it's smaller and lighter then the Olympus 40-150mm f2.8. Mostly wedding photographers might do this. Also one reason why wedding photographers will go with the Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 over the Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 is because Olympus can go out to 40mm and that's better for portraits. I like Olympus and Panasonic because verity is nice to have.

Never too late to comment! Back in my 35mm film days, the Nikon 35mm f/2 was my holy lens (such beautiful images and I do miss it!), so I understand why the 17mm Pro lens is "it" for micro 4/3, Jimmy. I did consider it, but these days, that's just not wide enough for me. If there was a 12 or 14mm Pro lens, I would own it (gotta have the weather protection). Instead, I chose the 12-45 f/4 Pro lens, and it is turning out to be a great lens. It illustrates that modern zoom lens design is advanced and overcomes my old school prejudice against zoom lenses. But just for fun, the other lens in my bag is the 8mm f/1.8 Fisheye Pro, which works great both as-is and corrected for rectilinear imagery. I rate this lens as the secret weapon of the Zuiko Pro line-up!

My trilogy: 7-14 f2.8, 12-100 f4, and the PannyLeica 100-400 (got this before the Oly lens was even a rumour). That gives me a huge range for travel and fits into a small Manfrotto shoulder bag that i can carry all day (EM-1 Mk1, EM-5 MkII, which share batteries!). Just got back from 9 days in the Dolomites (Northern Italy, no Covid-19 warnings) and this combo worked perfectly...12-100 and 100-400 share 72mm filters, the 7-14 has no filters...

Olympus 12-40 2.8 and 75 1.8. Two and done! Although I’d like an ultra wide at some point.

My holy trinity: Panasonic Leica 15mm f1.7 Olympus 30mm f3.5 macro Olympus 45mm f1.8

My trinity is the 300 f4, the 40-150 f2.8, and the 25 f1.8. I have two other lenses that always go in my kit though - the 60mm macro and the Laowa 7.5 f2. I do a lot of theatrical photography, and for that purpose, I leave the above behind, and always bring the Four thirds 14-35 f2 and 35-100 f2. Both are adapted Pro lenses, and although huge, they never let me down.

Lately it's been 12-40, 60 and 75-300 because I do a lot of nature/macro/wildlife photography. However I rarely take off the lens I got on my camera because in my mind I see what I can do with that lens as approach a location. Obviously though if I am using my 12-40mm and I find a tiny bug, I'm switching to macro or there is an animal or bird, I'm grabbing my 75-300mm. However, it really needs to be something very unique or rare for me to switch because I also go into a hike with a certain subject mind that I would only be using one lens. Street photography, 17 and 40-150 kit. I love the slight blur of the 40mm on closer subjects and the compression of the zoom on the 40-150mm. Many times I'm only rocking one or the other and rarely carry a third lens. Most likely the 45. Events 12-40, 40-150 and 45 but I would still take my 17. Lots of configurations.

300mm f4 which i use 80% of the time, then 40-150mm f2.8 + 1.4 TC. these for birds and butterflies, for casual shooting the 17 mm 1.8.

My trinity is: Panasonic 15mm f1.7 Olympus 45mm f1.8 Olympus 12-50mm f3.5-6.3 The primes just aren't flexible enougth to document my family's outdoor activities. Looking forward to upgrade my 12-50 to a pro zoom lens. But it's difficult to decide wich one it will be, 12-40mm, 12-45mm or 12-100mm.

I upgraded from 12-50mm f3.5-6.3 to 12-40mm f2.8. There are obvious benefits, but the smaller lens you already have has fantastic colour (provided your ISO remains low of course). It's also light and has a great motorized zoom which I quite like. After upgrading, sharpness is now off the scale. Which is good, but not essential for beautiful photos. I much prefer the narrow depth of field at f2.8 - it shows depth much better. And f2.8 keeps ISO very low - great in dim light.

My trinity is: 9mm bodycap fisheye, 12-45 zoom and Lumix 45-175 tele zoom (plus a short extension tube for occasional macro shots). All small and lightweight enough to meet my backpacking, landscape and mountain photography needs.

Light weight and everyday in my little bag: Panasonic 14/2.5 + 25/1.7 + 42,5/1.7 : MY TRINITY!

My three are: 8-25MM Pro. (Fantastic walk around lens) 12-100MM Pro. (Best travel lens, and exceptionally sharp) Lumix 100-300. (Very sharp in good lighting) I also have the 15mm Leica for low light

Jimmy, I love your holy trinity. My holy trinity is Sigma 56mm f1.4, Sigma 30mm f1.4, and the Panny Leica 15mm. I'm a Panasonic Lumix user. I love Olympus but the menus are too extensive for me to find any setting I might need, even though I prefer Olympus over Panasonic because it's color is superior. I do own the Olympus 45mm f1.8 lens and love it but prefer The Sigma 56mm f1.4 as it offers more compression and wider aperture plus, Sigma is weather sealed.

I'm a botanist, and the M.Zuiko 12-40 2.8 Pro is my easy choice for #1. Panny 20mm f1.7 for general shooting, including in low light conditions like a retirement party, when no one wants to get a face full of flash...

Right now my go-tos are the Olympus 12-40 f2.8, 45 f1.8, and the third is dependent on the situation; usually either my 7artisans 60mm macro or Panasonic 15mm f1.7.

My EM1MKII, 12-40 f2.8 Pro and 60 f2.8 Macro are NEVER left home. I have the 14-150 F4-5.6 II but bring my Pana 45-200 f4-5.6 with me for the extra reach and wider Ap throughout. I also have the Oly 45 f1.8 that sees a lot of use, and am saving up for the 45-150 f2.8 and mc20.

Mine are Olympus 45 1.8 Olympus 12-40 pro Olympus 12-100 pro The last one is my grab and go Lens.

Olympus 9-18mm, Lumix 12-32mm Olympus 45mm 1.8 and my PEN-F make for a very lightweigh kit.

Thank you for your interesting video. My choice: 12-40 F2.8 (always on my EM 1 mk2) 40-150 F.2.8 (always in my bag) And, depending on the programme and the light conditions: 25 F1.8, 45 F1.8, 75 F1.8, or even 8 F1.8 Fisheye (this one for architecture)

@@JJ-iu1zq I don't know because I don't have the 45 1.2. It is probably a better choice if you want to shoot a person and not only her face in a small room. When the room is big enough or when you shoot outside, the 75 (1.8) is ideal for portraits and the whole body. Subjects are far enough to look natural. And the bokeh is superb: good enough and not too much blur.

I have the Zuiko 35-100mm constant F2. Amazing lens.

I mainly shoot nature so the 60/2.8 Macro is a must. Second the 40-150 ii "plastic fantastic", as it's so small and lightweight and I seem to have a very sharp one, but will replace it soon with the 2.8 pro + mc20. Third was the Panasonic 25/1.7, but I recently got the 17mm pro with the em1ii in the latest promotional sale and man, this is a lens! It replaces the 25 now for outdoors, but when I have to go light, I'd still prefer the smaller 1.8 lenses or Panasonic equivalents. Nice video, as always, but to be honest, I liked the more improvised videos "in the field" a little better. Fingers crossed we can go outside and meet friends again soon in the near future 🤞 Stay save!

My start economic trinity kit lens 2 45mm 1.8 3 40-150 plastic. Actually 30mm macro 25mm pro and 35-100 panasonic 2.8. With m1mark3 I started shooting some video and I'm thinking to buy the 17mm pro. But my erotic dream, The Eva Green lens is for me the 40-150 mm pro by Olympus. Maybe not the best choice to start video but the pictures are fantastics.

I like your reasoning for these lenses. I just picked up the Olympus 17 and 45 f1.2 Pro lenses after about 7 years of the f1.8 lenses, and they are definitely a big step up. For some time, my m43 trinity was the: Panasonic 12-35 f2.8 Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 Voigtlander 42.5 f0.95 This combination allowed me to shoot in almost any environment, and the Panasonic stabilization with the GH3 and GH4 was very helpful. Lately, I've been using the Speedbooster XL with the Sigma 18-35 and Canon 24-105 f4, as this gives me a similar range but with much better low light performance. The only hassles are the added weight, and how the Canon zooms in the opposite direction of the Sigma and Panasonic. I'm so used to shooting with the Pana zooms that I often zoom in the 'wrong' direction on Canon. I'm considering getting a PanaLeica 12-60, and using that with my Oly 17 and 45 Pro lenses. That way I get a useful zoom range for doc shooting and the ability to go into low light with the f1.2 lenses. Lighter kit than Sigma and Canon, too.

Cheers mate! Yeah, I think you can probably see the difference jumping from Voigtlander to Olympus pro. The sharpness is another level, yet very lovely and filmic. I've used speed booster before and not really my cup of tea :)

@@Red35Photography Don't get me wrong, the Voigtlanders are pretty much perfect for video and character shooting on m43, and they are very sharp when stopped down. But they have a fair bit of blooming at f0.95, particularly the 25mm, and I wanted autofocus. The Oly Pro primes will do well, I think.

My cheapskate trinity: 1. BCL 9mm f8 (for landscape), 2. 25mm f1.8 (for night photography), and 3. 40-150 f4-5.6 4/3 old lens 😂 Paired with EPL9 & EPM2

Jesse Hall Nice! If I was a planned shoot photographer or had more opportunities to change lenses or had two bodies and a gimbal or monopod in tow for the 40-150 I would have the same set up. But...I’m often times not able to cary that kind of stuff. But I will carry the pro primes over the premium primes! Lol. Weather sealed. 1: 17mm f1.2 2: 45mm f1.2 3: 12-100 f4 I like to shoot action adventure stuff and so value the 12-100f4 for stabilization and range. I also can’t often tell the subjects to hang on while I set up my other lens. But I have the primes for low light and shallow dof to complement the 12-100. I have not found myself wanting the 25mm 1.2 because I have that focal length in the 12-100 but also I don’t think the difference between the 17 and 25 is distinct enough to justify, if I just walk a few feet closer with the 17 I’m happy with how that looks. If I don’t want to be close we’ll step back with the 45mm. That’s just me, because I’m changing lenses as little as I can because of harsh conditions and things happening fast. This trio is superb for what I like to do. I do have a 4th piece of kit but it doesn’t count because it’s another universe. For super wide I switch to the GoPro. Smaller lighter and way more creative angles than the mirrorless system. submersible and POV and so on.

Mine are... M. Zuiko 8mm f/1.8 FE PRO (extra bonus on a body that can defishify it) M. Zuiko 12-40 F2.8 Pro general purpose zoom And probably the classic Lumix 20mm F1.7, despite all its flaws.

I'm still building my new kit. Currently: Olympus 12-200 - Everyday runaround. Olympus 100-400 with MC-20 - birds, critters running around, long distance shots, telemacro, etc. Planning to add the Olympus 7-14 Pro for nice wide shots and better astro. I'll probably add the 60mm Macro as well, or wait for the as yet unnamed Pro Macro from the roadmap. :)

Wondering if 12-200mm is a worthwhile step-up from my 14-150mm II? 🤔

Panny 14mm 2.5 plus Panny wide angle adapter for 11mm 😜 40-150 consumer version. Undecided between a 17 or 25mm prime 1.8

60MM 2.8, 45MM 1.2, 25-100 Pana in my wife's professional bag. She also has a fullframe cover wide angles but as a portrait photographer, I uses the full frame 99% of the time. :)

So tempted by the 40-150 f2.8....started thinking the f4 was better due to the compact size, but I shoot indoor sports and the f2.8 seems justified.

I recently purchased the Mzuiko 20mm pro lens. Paired with the OM-5, I think it’ll become my “holy unity” lens for walkabouts in any weather.

I'm thinking of getting that for my m5.3 as well, a little worried about all the bad reviews about CA etc how do you like it?

TOP3 12-40 Pro：Of course :) 14-42 EZ ：Not enough sharp, but Lightweight, smallest, super mobility. this one is nice snap shooter. 14-150 II：Not enough sharp, From wide to telephoto, lightweight, weather sealed. other my favorite lenses SIGMA 30mm f2.8 DN：cheeper, sharp, Bright. (my first Single focus lens) SainSonic 25mm f1.8：very very cheeper, nice bokeh, mobility.

I have a M5 mk2 with the 12-40 2.8 pro, a PenF with a 17mm 1.8 and my M1 has my 40-150 2.8 pro on it I also have the 1.4 tele I carry. Usually I can carry two cameras on hikes.

Laowa 7.5 F2 Olympus 12-100 F4 And the newly bought Olympus 100-400 I got myself well covered for anything 🙂

My trinity is a bit different and one lens I‘m waiting for: the upcoming 8-25/4, second also the 40-150 Pro and last a 35mm-equvalent but from Fuji, called X100V - that is my EDC camera ;)

Right now it's the 12-40mm f/2.8 pro plus the 75mm f/1.8 for interest and then the 17mm f/1.8 for compactness. Though the 17mm/1.8 and 45mm/1.8 were on the two camera bodies for ages and I shot a friend's wedding using just those two. Well, almost. I know the 17 overlaps with the 12-40 pro but it's still so useful and small. I have the Panasonic 25mm f/1.7 too but found I didn't use it that much and mine seems very soft wide open or at least gives kind of weird renderung in fine details that isn't my favourite.

I am a simple guy: [Wide] 7-14mm f2.8 pro (Street & Video) [Standard] 25mm f1.2 pro (Everything else) [Telephoto] 75-300mm f4.8-6.7 (Plane & Car Spotting) For some reason, I use the 7-14mm the most.

I use mostly: 12-40 f/2.8, 45 f/1.2, 17 f/1.2.

Those are far to big and expensive for me. Mine: Panasonic 12-32mm Oly 25mm f1.8 Oly 45mm f1.8

Yes! Would sub the Lumix 20mm for the 25mm and add the 60mm macro (great for non-macro shots). The Lumix 35-100 f4-f5.6 is great also, fits well w/ 12-32mm.

So “organically sharp” is the new way of saying that the 25/1.2 is the least sharp of any of the 1.2 primes? My trinity: Olympus 12-100 f/4 Pro. Incredible lens. Olympus 40-150 2.8 Pro Panasonic 42.5/1.2 Nocticron.

LOL, not at all, organically sharp is a way I describe the look. It's sharp but the rendering between the Olympus and PanaLeica is very different. PanaLeica is very modern and Olympus resembles film look, which I prefer. You have the Nocticron, you know how sharp it is

Yes, may be the least sharp of the 1.2 primes, but to me it has the best rendering of the three. Having the Voigtlander 17.5 f0.95, I bought the 17 f1.2 with the intention to sell the Voigtlander. I ended up selling the 17 f1.2. Even though the Voigtlander was considerable less sharp wide open, I prefer the way it renders the image, quite a bit more than the Olympus.

Indoor (sometimes ne Leica Q with 28mm ff) 17mm 1.2 25mm 1.2 and the 45mm 1.2 outdoor the same execpt the 75mm 1.8 v. 45mm

My trinity: Leica DG 25mm f1.4 Summilux II. New version is finally water resistant, and by accident I corrected chromatic aberrations with UV filter (Hoya Fusion Antistatic). As I am not taking photos commercially, weight and price were the factor when I was considering it to Olympus 25mm f 1,2 PRO. Only downside now is absence of Pro Capture. This is a lens i mount on M5 or M10 and take a walk just with single prime lens, with smallest camera bag i have. Olympus 12-40 F2.8 Pro My all rounder, and first big lens i got once i purchased my first OM-D. Its basically first "good" zoom i ever owned, as it does not have any downsides. Maybe its bit front heavy on my M10 and M5 Mk III a problem which can be corrected by a grip if needed. If i need some more character to the images. Most of time its not needed to change this lens and I use it all the time. Lumix G X Vario 35-100 F2.8 II I was thinking a lot about 40-150 F2.8 but it would not be a good choice for me. I dont do nature or sport photography and range up to 100mm (200mm) is enough for me. I came around 35-100 which is as fast as my all-rounder, with fixed aperture, its not much bigger in size and is even sligtly lighter. Whole set, including body and flash is below 2kg. The fourth in trinity is: Leica DG 12-60 F2.8-4.0 Vario-Elmarit I realized that I might need a backup and travel lens to cover all of those three. 12-100 F4 would be the perfect option, but as in case of 40-150 it would be bit too heavy.

As an amateur.... My three in my bag ( other than the 14-150 ii that came with it). are i. 12-40mm 2.8 pro ii. 40-150 mm 2.8 pro iii. 60mm 2.8 prime macro lens... I LOVE THAT ONE ! ( even for non macro work)

Hi and thanx. Reviewers one can trust are getting fewer and more will just try to please everyone which is not helpful . But we always do need to hear the bottom line so always share that experience please. My trinity is three bags LOL. On a serious note, I most often take Laowa 7.5, Oly 12-40 and 12-100. I know it sounds strange but I have such pleasure using these that it is more than just about the natural light which dictates use. First one used more in lower natural light with dynamic movement and because you can bet your life on it, the other for magic stabilization for example in static museums, night, nature etcetera or good light portrait and groups. Add flash and there is nothing you can't do. Of course the 17 pro, 45 pro, 40-150 and Panaleica 100-400 are never far. I have never been into 25 (50) fixed as I have to change too often in typical 50mms scenarios where the zooms better work perfectly and also mostly sharper or alternatively the 17 pro does a better job showing people doing things and looking great at it. Although the 60mm macro is the greatest bar none, the 12-40 zoom work very well for event closeups like rings and can do perfect macro stacking including for flowers. I remain amazed that the Olympus 12mms f2 and Leica 25mm 1.4 still cost stupid money for stupid quality. Then again there is excellent value in all the other 1.8 ish lenses like the super Panaleica 15mm, the 25s and Oly 45mm.

My Trinity setup for video work: Voigt 17.5mm f0.95 Voigt 25mm f0.95 Oly 45mm f1.2 Pro

PRO lenses are super good, but a little bit bulky and heavy for taking it for a simple walk with M5ii without grip. I'm have 17 1.8, 45 1.8, 60 2.8, 12-40 2.8, and my mostly using lenses are 17 and 60) Love macro very much)

Dear Jimmy, My dream lens has yet to come to enable me to go for MFT OM system, this is a challenge for OM Digital Solutions to develop. This lens will be a new F2.8 PRO Zoom 12-65 mm IS lens to be the best overall lens, covering 24 mm wide angle up to 130 mm Medium Telephoto, range. This lens could be used for shooting still and videos as well, but it has to be PRO with IS from OM Digital Solutions.
