Are you me? Lmao I'd get so annoyed that I had to sift through piles of romance and smut to find some juicy platonic relationships or gen fics. Man I hated romance so much back then. Like I'd be like "oh no, not this again" when the mc started blushing at whatever the mlp told them, and then I'd keep reading pretending that they're still friends and I'd just, ignore all the kissing and romantic gestures. Especially in the steven universe fandom, with Lapidot. I was always like "I ship them but not like, romantically - like I think they're just best friends, like super best friends " since I didn't know what the word platonic was and I'd side-eye all the romantic ship art and finding something were they weren't romantic partners was so hard. I was so happy when I found out the word Platonic too. Then I found out about asexuality and aromaticism from the same vein... Guess I gotta thank the ship for letting me find myself lmao. + Peridot's aroace so maybe it was destiny to find out that way.

It's nice to know the fact that more people have written fucked up shit as a child and looks back at it the same way I do with my old stories. I never published mine (thank heavens) but I will never forget the countless stories I've written that were real fucked up because no child even understands the word "romance". I don't even know why I wrote shipping fics, I'm not even into romance that much as a genre, but here we are. I do remember the only fan fiction I liked (but never got to even making a single draft of it (unless a 3 panel unfinished comic page counts) was a NiTW fanfic where May decided to be a counsellor, but bring May, she didn't have any kind of degree and was doing it illegally. It was out of her wanting to give advice after her whack life experiences but then she realised that, by helping other people, she was making peace with herself and her own problems. This was a few years after the whole events of NiTW had blown over, btw. I wouldn't trust a May who was fresh off of beating up a kid and finding out how her friend died with a counselling job, even if it were illegal. Also, May and Bea got together and moved out of Possum Springs because yes.
