My Nursing School Debt | WCU TUITION, LOANS, FINANCIAL AID

// I attended WCU accelerated BSN program. It is a private school, so that explains the cost. This route to get my BSN degree was my own. Perhaps not the smartest financial decision, but I do not regret it.

    Thank you so much for your videos! I am going to start West Coast in April. I went to a 4 year university and got my Bachelor's Degree in something else. I knew by the end of getting my first degree that I wanted to do nursing but I was already almost done with the first degree that i just decided to finish and then take the next step to apply for nursing programs. I didn't get into any of the schools I originally applied to which discouraged me. I have other friends that have gone to West Coast and let me know about their experience with it. That is ultimately what made my decision to go. I also had to take out a private loan. It makes me happy to know other people that have a similar story to mine and about their journey. And its encouraging to know that I will be successful in my nursing journey. 😊💖

    I am glad you made your decision. It is scary to take out loans for school especially when its so much money. You gave it a try with other schools and then made the WCU decision. With the right mind set you will pay those student loans back. Good luck!!!!

    If you think a nurse can make $100 maybe even more it’s worth the investment on yourself. Someone like me who grew up dirt poor and was getting trashed every night as a stripper needs to get the boot and pull the trigger and become a nurse to save my life. Idc if it’s a lot of debt this is my choice. Since joining I have gotten sober and my grades are all As & Bs. My second semester I can work as a cna and have my work pay for it.

    You may not want to do the minimum payment (although many do need that) but if it also comes with a lower interest rate, you are hurting yourself more by not taking advantage of consolidating the loans. You want to make sure your higher payments actually go towards the debt not towards interests. If you can lower the interest and shave off 50 a month, thats 600 a year that could be used for emergencies or eating out of Christmas gifts…or who cares if it sits in your bank, why give the lenders EXTRA money when you can consolidate. Do it for the lower interest not the lower monthly payment.

    To each their own, but making decisions out of desperation may have serious consequences. Going to west coast because it’s faster means over 100k in debt (it’s super rare going to WCU less than that). Don’t limit and doubt yourself. Traditional way is a bit harder because of the competition but you may never know if you don’t try and just jump to WCU. My wife got into 2 nursing schools out of the 3 schools she applied, one cal state and one UC. She considered WCU but she decided to jump to the competition and see. Thanks to that she’s debt free. And there you go. Not saying WCU is a bad school. I met wonderful nurses who went there. But really consider your options. Interest rates are high. Trying to get a home with that 100k will make things harder. Don’t be too desperate. Yes 2-3 years sounds amazing but how long will it take to pay off +100k?

    Question I was told student loan debt don’t look as bad as regular loans and credit card debt on your credit score . Would u say you aren’t eligible to get a home loan because of your 120+ student debt ?

    LMAO! I can't answer these questions. I am not sure. I am not looking into purchasing a home while I am in debt with student loans. That it why it is my priority to pay off my debt asap. The faster I do the faster I can purchase a home. I have heard of people that do purchase homes while having debt so not sure. I am continuing to do my research.

    That depends. On how gazelle intensity I go on paying off the debt. If I delay payments and not pay then obviously longer. I have made my calculations and if I work I can pay it within 5 years. That is a personal choice and goal of mine. People be having student debt for 10 plus years and that's not what I want for myself.

    If you think about it a lot of people come out of high-school and go into college right away. Most of them don't have credit scores and get approved for student loans so I would say probably not.

    Did you make any payments while in school?

  • @carolinabycarolina8451

    @carolinabycarolina8451

    Yes, I was making payments for my private loans. It was optional and I chose the option to give $25/month (gave more most of time). This was per private loan. So I started off with one private loan interest payment of $25 per month and then by the end it was 4 of them. Just to not let interest accumulate too much.

    I believe that we should get those LVN back for less pay and these overpaid nurses is what’s causing our overpriced healthcare insurance. More LVN and CNA then less RN is the answer for more affordable health insurance in America. Haters will speak up but I’m telling the truth.
