    I don’t know the first thing about pellet smokers except what I’ve seen in stores, this looks like a really awesome pit, this is pretty cool that Yoder has designed this like the flow of an offset. My question is why wouldn’t they drop the the stack to grate level? Is this a design of all Yoders, or are there different thermodynamics and flow involved? I’m just curious as a stick burner.

  • @SmokinJoesPitBBQ

    @SmokinJoesPitBBQ

    Thanks buddy. The design of the 1500 heat management plate allows you to get the flavors and texture of an offset. The high stack is a design on Yoder Smokers and it works. Even my offset has that same design. 👍

    Sweet smoker Joe! I was going to get the same one but then I found out about Lone Star Grillz new pellet smoker. And after a lot of debate I decided it was the one for me. Don't get me wrong, Yoder makes a very nice smoker, the deciding factor for me that the Lone Star smokes CONSTANTLY! Just like an off-set and unlike any other pellet smoker I've ever used. Something with the programing in the Fireboard?

    How long does it take to get up to temp? Whats the pellet usage? Are the temps across the grates pretty close?

  • @SmokinJoesPitBBQ

    @SmokinJoesPitBBQ

    It comes up to temp super fast, especially when you slide the damper open. I can't get the temps even across the grates by closing the exhaust stack a bit.

    I have owned one for 4 yrs now, if I was to do it again I wouldnt. The Smoker is pretty uneven temp wise, I think its too big for 1 burn pot out of the Box. I have modified mine 9Extensively to get it to be even temp wise. The Smoker also wants to catch the burn pot on fire, Mine did the first week. I actually sent mine back to the factory because it was so far off temp wise and even when walking me thru trying to calibrate the controller it was plus or minus 35 degrees. Now with all the issue's I mentioned Yoder did stand behind it and fixed the above issue's, Now onto the issues that they are not going to stand by. THE MAIN ISSUE I HAVE with this smoker is the exhaust port is in the wrong location, IMO this is why the temps are so far off, and why the smoke flavor is so light, why is located so high I dont know............This part drives me crazy! 1) I lost 2 igniters in the first 2 yrs 2) I lost 1 of the blower fans the 2nd yr 3) The cook chamber started to rust (And its under cover, No not a smoker cover its in my covered outdoor kitchen) 4) I lost the control board in yr 2 as well Its a well built unit, it looks good well in does now (I had pro cart powder coated, and the upper chamber I blasted and Ceramic Coated myself with NIC Cerakote) I dont use it much anymore, I use my Ceramic Cooker for Brisket and Beef Ribs, My Lone Star Vertical for Pork Butt, Pork Ribs, Pork Belly and Chicken..................I use the Yoder for Sausage, Candy Bacon, I also use it for cooler smoking on Tri-Tips and Steaks before Searing. It is soon to go away, to be replaced with a Offset, the Spot this is located in there is enough room for a Outlaw Patio Stick Burner. Now I am not dissing the Yoder it might serve well for many, it just has worn out its welcome for me.

    Nice smoker but for almost $5k does the food taste any better than say any other pellet smoker? I don't own an expensive pellet smoker but from all the videos I've seen, it all depends on the type of pellets you use. I'm just an amateur smoker but I'd be interested if something this expensive makes any difference. Some of the food I've smoked on an expensive offset smoker tastes better than what we've eaten in a restaurant lol! I hope for that kind of money the food is absolutely awesome!
