Love the video. As always you did an amazing job explaining everything and the differences. You had me cracking up with the dramatics, but it was much needed drama.

Lol me either. . But seriously I loved that color how it was . Just why would they do that ?? I'll add a touch of the crimson to it from now on but it may not mix the same .

I am waiting for my new big, heavy palette to arrive. I am a novice, but ... who cares but me. I love Prussian blue. I fell in love with it, and my love has just grown stronger! I truly think that as far as lightfastness and purity the question to ask is this: is my art serious? I mean serious in terms of salability and being shown in galleries? The answer, in my mind, is the possibility of a permission slip. Take it from a lady in her seventies, enjoy what and while you can! Your video was most informative. Combined with the element of drama, it is a winner. You have a new subscriber. I promise not to preach!!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment . I love prussian blue and it is a historical pigment. When I think prussian I immediately think of van gogh. Now prussian blue will fully regain its chroma and hue when left in a dark room for several weeks so if it fades you can always get it back . However moving forward I will only use prussian blue for work in my sketchbook or personal enjoyment but not for my professional work for sale .

Great video. Im not sure anyone brought this up, but yes there was a change in Daniel Smith's TP Orange a little while back. Denise Soden- in liquid color on KZread also noticed the change in one of her videos and was bummed. Anyway great video. Thanks for sharing!💙

Thank you for letting me know about the paint change. It was driving me crazy. I've also noticed changes in the burnt sienna and a few other colors in Daniel Smith's range as I've repurchased lately. I was even considering doing a video on it just to see it others had that experience. It makes me feel bad I'd recommended that color so much , not knowing it had changed .

DaVinci orange is the real pyrrol orange. I have used D S too and it is less expensive and just as gorgeous. Give it a try. I also love the one pigment permanent alizarin crimson from DaVinci. I use many different wc brands and search the best colors and value but always professional.

Hey Nicole, I hope you're having a fantastic weekend! I love love your color choices!! I have pyrrol scarlet in my shopping cart by DS. I'm debating buying the whole tube or the essentials set, I need an ultramarine blue and more pyrrol red, I'm running low on those two colors right now and I have a pyrrol scarlet by Turner and I've been phasing out the turner's from my palette. Their one of the first sets I bought years ago for a base set to play with but I find them kinda streaky compared to other brands. I wanted to ask your opinion have you tried permanent alizarin crimson in other brands by chance? I use it a lot in acrylics and I've been missing it in my watercolor palette. I looked at D. S but it's a 3 pigment mix! Winsor newton has a 1 pigment mix using PR 206, I have the dot card here but there's not enough pigment to check it's mixing properties. I'm thinking about buying a 5ml tube to try it. After seeing this video I'm also thinking strongly about the mgraham version. I asked my family (children and bf) for this palette for Xmas after seeing this video. I've looked at a permanent palette for over 3 years but I don't like the rectangular versions lol I have tons of ceramics I've bought that take the place of but now I want and am ready for my studio palette I think. I like buying something excellent quality that I only have to buy once a lifetime. I get very attached to my paints and my palette and I still have my first ones as keepsakes to remember them by hahaha. I loved the drama in your video and yes I was like wtf** Daniel smith hahaha totally felt for you girl!! I'm mourning moonglow by daniel smith this morning and found out the PR177 faded right out in a month!!! My jaw has dropped and its been pulled off my palette. I'm going to start mixing my own, apparently quin coral makes a nice substitute or PV 19 I may try it with a quin rose, or when I get alizarin crimson I may try that. I'm still thinking about your mgrahams alizarin omg so Ruby beautiful, I love love my red pigments!! I've never tried anthaquanoid blue and now want to try it too lol!! I'm curious about a side by side of ds lemon yellow beside mgrahams azo yellow. I'm super picky about my lemon yellow and don't use py3 because it's not the most lightfast. But your azo looks beautiful! A great replacement for aureolin which is one of my favs but the original pigment shifts so I don't use py40 but still enjoy a few hues made by companies. I keep thinking if I get my studio palette I can use my mgraham cobalt set more which I love lol then I could buy more mgrahams which I also love hahaha I hope you have the best day, I've watched this video several times and just love it, you did a great job so wanted to send you some love and positivity to your day xoxo Ps I know what you mean about prussian blue, I'm in love with it, but I feel different about it now that I know it's lightfastness issues But if it does fade I was informed a dark space brings it right back which is why it's considered still lightfast. But I know what you mean, I'm thinking about giving it a chance on my watercolor palette because it's historical and beautiful I miss it on my palette you know? Have a great day my beautiful friend xo

Thank you so much for your comments. So very kind and always welcome . So first off , yes that 3 pigment mix with daniel Smith's alizarin crimson was one of my major complaints too. If you watch my daniel smith watercolor review you will see it side by side with the m Graham single pigment permanent alizarin crimson . In my opinion m Grahams is superior and the best money can buy. Not only because it is single pigment resulting in cleaner mixtures but the pigment itself is excellent and of the most exquisite kind . Pyrrol ruby is a very highly coveted and respected pigment. Give it a try . In the same watercolor review I believe I compare the m Grahams azo yellow as well to the Daniel smith hansa yellow light . I dont like hansa yellow light in general not just because of the lightfast issue but it's too green and almost dirty looking. The azo yellow is a perfect substitute for cadmium yellow light but with the added benefit ofcourse of being far more transparent and visually eye clean . The m Graham azo yellow is the perfect cool yellow with out being too green or too opaque like lemon yellow and the azo yellow has superior tinting strength to all the yellows mentioned so a little goes a long way . As with all the m Graham paints just a gentle touch with a wet brush . You dont need to dig in the cake of color to get the pigment to release like some brands ( cough cough winsor newton cough cough ) . I regret not mentioning it in my video but I also should have said I never use cadmium colors in watercolor. . Why ??? Well because they are heavyily granulating , sedentary , opaque to the point of chalky , and dull . Just plain dull . They aren't nearly as vibrant as modern colors like quins. , phthalos , or pyrrols. You can always make a clean color dirty by neutralizing it with a compliment but you can never make a dirty color clean again. Period. Also yes those Turner paints really are more student grade in my opinion I dont care what they say and they do seem streaky cause they have more filler . I would never use them personally. Lastly Anthra. Blue is so gorgeous! It's the most intense, smokey , dramatic deep indigo blue. Perfect for stormy skys , wildlife and more . And it's so richly saturated only a small bit goes a very long way . It can be almost black in mass tone.

@@nicolemartinart5819 thank you so much for your professional opinion girl, yes omg winsor newton and digging thos cakes hahaha so true!! I rarely use cadiums too I find the same thing, that the mixtures are not as clean and I can get equally lightfast pigments that are much cleaner mixtures. I'm going to check out your daniel smith video thank you so much for your advice I appreciate it greatly! I have to try the anthaquanoid blue now haha I love indigo one of my favs so I think I'll love it too. You have a wonderful day girl, I enjoyed thoroughly and look forward to seeing and hearing more about your journey as you go.
