Three machines is absolutely not excessive. I have my main machine, a Bernina 570QE and my mother‘s old Riccar that I can‘t part with, especially now, that we‘re still grieving for her. And number 3 is a Babylock serger that I‘m still getting to know.

I just found your channel because my 4th machine is a Janome 1000. It's giving me trouble on some super stretchy lightweight knits that I'm hemming. I love your studio, and I'm convinced there's nothing better than totes for storing fabric!

I feel fortunate that I have a large space to sew in (bonus room over garage). I call it my sewing lair. I repurposed unused furniture. I still have my Bernina 910 (whopping 7 stitches) and my Bernette 334DS serger). I no longer use the 910--but I likely will never part with it. It is a solid machine and I have so many feet with it.. I have a Bernina 530 (bought on closeout), Jukie Kirei (bought used but wanted for 12" throat space for quilting), and a Juki coverstitch (bought on closeout). I also have a Kenmore Deluxe Rotary (1946) which sews the most beautiful straight stitches ever and 4 other really vintage machines. And none should own a coverstitch without your excellent book.

I currently own 5 sewing machines. I recently re-homed a serger as I no longer sew clothing. All my machines are 1981 or older. Changes are coming though; I just purchased a Husqvarna ( almost new, a demo model) and I have decided to sell or re-home all of my vintage machines. Time for a change and to simplify a bit.

I have a 30 year old White four thread serger. Its a major workhorse and then some. I have a Bernina Bernet that I've had almost 20 years. I plan on buying a sail rite machine to deal with denim and leather. The small portable one.

The Babylock Celebrate is a serger with tension dials. It's a couple hundred dollars less than the Imagine. I personally prefer the Imagine. I gifted it to my niece a couple of years ago when I purchased the Triumph (combo serger/coverstitch), but regretted not having a standby machine when one of them needs to go for its annual service. So I bought a Babylock Victory (updated version of the Imagine). I currently have 4 machines in my home and not enough room to have them all out at once. Your studio is lovely!

I have 2 listed for sale and considering selling a third- it’s a restored vintage Necchi- so I’m not sure if I want to part with it but I really don’t use it a lot. A 4th machine is ready to donate to a friend who tunes up machines and gives them away. Lol. Give me a month and my answer will be more respectable. :).

What a lovely space, I’m particularly impressed by the sofa and table by window, a great spot to hand sew, plan the next project or just nap. I’ve tried for an armchair in my room but there’s just too much stuff. Sewing machine count? That’s a scary number, at least 12 sewing machines, three sergers, two coverstitches, and an ironing press. I should purge the Janome 900cpx, after getting my juki mcs1500 it got stored.

Um, eight machines? I did have nine, but my modern computerized machine went to the dump when it died. I have one mechanical 30 year old serger and a new coverstitch machine. My daily driver is a 1960 Singer 500a. The rest are fully functional antiques and vintage machines from 1902 through the 70s. I'll never spend money on another computerized piece of garbage that might last 10 years, if I'm lucky. I do love your storage systems! I need to work on that.

What a beautiful and functional space. One can be so much more productive when things are neat and organized. I have one old sewing machine (White brand) which I bought new in roughly 1984. It is heavy compared to today's lighter-weight plastic type machines, but has served me well. I would love to have a serger at some point but I'm not a spring chicken any more so am having trouble justifying the purchase. My sewing/hobby room has a closet (without doors) so I can store a lot of things in it. Most tubs/boxes etc. are labelled or I couldn't find things quickly. It doesn't look as lovely as yours and my "cutting table" is an island in my kitchen area, so I'm running up and down stairs from time to time (good exercise).

What a super organised sewing space, Johanna. I love your sofa! I have four sewing machines but one is pretty old and has a limp! It's a Riccar and was great in its day. I keep it because it has some really nice decorative stitches. The others are a basic Janome machine that does automatic buttonholes, a Singer heavy duty and a Janome overlocker. I don't think I could justify the expense of a cover stitch machine. I muddle along with a twin needle for knit hemming.

Great video and your space is very well-organised! Have you thought of making a cover for your open wall hanging threads? It could be a fabric cover which would be quick and easy to sew up using curtain fabric for durability, but also sunlight and dust protection. You can remove it whenever you are working in your sewing space and recover it when closing up for the day. Anne 🦘

The sewing room looks really nice! IKEA is such a boon - affordable storage and it looks nice too. It's a staple in my sewing room too (which I am also working on arranging!). I have about 14 sewing machines that I can remember - some are stored in the closet because I don't use them much but I've had them a long time and I like them. I mostly use my Janome 6700P, my Janome 550E embroidery machine, my Janome Air Thread 2000, and my Janome coverstitch CoverPro 1000. Fab sewing space, thanks for the tour. I have 3 sewing machines (Bernina, Husqvarna and a really cheap one from before when I only did repairs), 1 Singer serger, 1 Brother coverstitch, 1 Babylock Ovation (cover/serger combo) and 1 Janome embroidery machine. I didn't plan it out like this, it just happened :-). I'm using all except the Brother cover as it was so cumbersome to set up and I'm sooooo happy with my Ovation, a real game changer! In my defence, I do sew just about every day and I love to explore the capabilities of these machines

Very nice sewing space. 7 sewing machines. A couple of vintage machines were given to me. A Pfaff 332, Admiral Star, which is a Singer 15 Clone, . Then I have Singer 401, a Featherweight, Janome 6600, Janome coverstitch 3550, 234 New Home Serger that is 34 years old and still going.

Your space looks stunning. If you want to replace your coverstitch consider a Brother CV 3550. I used to have Nina (made by Janome) coverstitch. The Brother is a game changer. I did a lot of research before buying a new coverstitch.

Thank you for the suggestion! I borrowed the Brother for a bit when it first came out, but found it a little cumbersome to thread and use, but I guess that's the learning curve :)

Babylock Gloria is brilliant. Serges and coverstitches. I also have a Babylock Desire. I generally use the Gloria for serging. It has Air threading. I use the Desire for coverstitching but they are interchangeable. I have a Janome 6700 as my main machine. I have an old Janome and an old Imagine as back up. I also have my sewing room kitted out in Ikea stuff.

Thanks for the tour! I am just starting with organizing my sewing room after changing the apartment, and I am also mostly shopping at IKEA. My cutting table also consists of Kallax (only 2 though) and the offered TORNVIKEN worktop :) But I don't want to drill holes neither in TORNVIKEN worktop (in case it shall be still used as the replacement for the actual TORNVIKEN worktop), nor into Kallax. If anyone has any tips how to reversibly glue the worktop to Kallax, I would be very grateful!

Nice looking room! I have 3 sewing machines. A Singer Fashion Mate 3342 that I bought to see if I’d like the hobby. Then stepped up a little to a Husqvarna Emerald 118. Recently bought myself a Husqvarna Topaz 40 sewing/embroidery combo for my birthday. All 3 are in rotation depending on the project or convenience. There will be a serger in my future, but since this is my hobby and not my career, it’ll have to wait.

True confession: I own 3 sewing machines and two sergers. It happened gradually over the past two decades! One sewing machine is a hand-crank Singer made in 1911. Johanna, you are not the only person who owns more than one sewing machine and/or serger. I have 3 sewing machines and 2 sergers!

The new studio looks great. I know how it feels to need a magnifier, I can't thread a needle with one these days. I have 2 machines, they are basic machines and quite old but seem to keep going. I love your skirt, the colour is really nice; is it from a pattern or one that you drafted yourself?
