Friends dealing with his 2018 with 40,000 miles having massive electric issues with his. Be honest i have no faith in new yota trucks either after seeing 2 lose their transmission on a light trail.. I'll stick with my 1990 yota pickup.. solid axle.. turbo diesel. 380,000 hard miles and it'll be good for another 300k miles or till the world ends

They possibly could although they have to prove the tire size increase caused the issue but i work for GM here in Canada and we typically would not see this as an issue . Your warranty isnt void if you tow a trailer nor increasing the tire size but not all dealerships are created equal or the district service managers that say what is warranty and what is not . Lift kits are an issue though and a harder mountain to climb , excuse the pun , when fighting for warranty . The higher the lift the bigger the denial , here in Canada a customer bought a brand new truck with a Rough Country 6 inch lift installed from a dealer then rolled the truck killing him , family is suing GM , the dealer and Rough Country . Not sure what the outcome was but dealers , if they want GM backing , have stopped installing lift kits on new trucks ..

My experience with GM and their engineers are that they really don't care. My supercruise quit working 5 months ago and despite having dash cam footage of the car attempting to swerve me off the road, into other cars, or into concrete walls on the highway GM shrugged it off. Sent out an engineer that had never worked on a supercruise system and I'm here now with a car that seemingly can't be fixed. I would love to see follow up with your experience with these issues you're having with this thing.

Pretty common for a slow burn failure to cause this. System sees something out of parameters in a certain scenario, clears itself after enough time, rinse and repeat. I'd still talk to the dealer and have them pull the logs using a time stamp from when it happened.

Hell I had to change a starter out on a 2018 silverado last week, it was just plain jane starter, not the start stop starter, and it was $300, Had the plesure of changing out a fuel pump on a 2020 Ram 2500 with 50k miles on it, things like that just shouldn't happen with new shit.

I think GM’s Vortec and Duramax engines prior to its buyout were superior to the engines of Ford and Dodge, with exception to the transmissions of the GM trucks and maybe the Cummins depending on the year. However after it’s buyout, GM’s engines just lost their reliability imo. Even the 5.3 started suffering from severe oil sludging and it’s cylinder deactivation would fail catastrophically. Now, the engine I trust most out of them all is the Cummins but then I don’t trust anything else about those Rams! They really did push me into the Toyota iForce V8s and I LOVE mine! Still miss my old 05’ Suburban with the 5.3 that had no issues ever and I sold it at almost 200k miles because of rust to my mechanic.

My guess is the lightning would be the best. Unless the Rivian had that tank turn feature they advertised. Not sure if that made it to production or not.

@@KB-bh9hp The Rivian does way better than the Lightening off road. It has air suspension and you can raise it up a bit but until they get lift kits, none of them are good off road.

@@Lianpe98 Everything you listed is easily diagnosable and repairable at the point of failure, and usually with cheap universal parts. Not only that, you can fix all of those issues in your garage with a set of second-hand tools and an afternoon. Good luck trying to replace a broken subsystem on an electric component, it won’t happen. You’ll end up replacing the entire main system because you can’t even tell where the fault is coming from. Hello empty wallet and months of delay from electronic component shortages. Everything breaks, what makes something reliable is how easy it is to repair it.

@@briany990 There are plenty of "simple" failures in combustion cars that due to poor design are extremely hard or time consuming to fix and therefore expensive, like the oil gaskets in a northstar Cadillac or a modern BMW, there are also Audis that require dissasembling the entire front end, recent GM turbocharged 4 cylinders that are anything but easy to fix, the AWD system on any BMW or the infamous Ford 5.4 3 valve that is so expensive to repair when it fails that it's cheaper to simply replace the whole engine. My point is that it isn't the technology, it's the design and the quality. Mechanical components can be and often are extremely unreliable, complicated and expensive to fix.

The ho-Hummer and the Defender debacle really take the wind out of the enthusiastic sails from these "off-road" rigs. While TFL takes the hit from these tests, it contributes to informed buyer decisions. So, thank you for that.

Modern cars put a computer between the driver and things like brakes, throttle, gears, - everything. YOU have no control, it does. You merely submit "suggestions" and the computer decides whether it will adopt them. Anyone who has used computers for a while learns not to depend on them for life and death issues. You never know when a bit will be mis-set.
