Leman russ battle tank is great because they don't need orders. Vehicle orders are hard to come by and they can be efficient without them

This is my take too. A jack of all trades, independent of orders. I reckon 1 alongside the heavy beasts with lots of ap is probably going to pay off.

The rerolls do make the standard russ fairly self sufficient, its sturdy for the price and hits hard. Whats not to like?

I know this isnt really the channel for crusade as its competitively focused and i love getting ideas and inspiration from this channel to improve my play and army in the guard but man just while we're hyping versions of the Russ we like i must say after taking the weapon modification battle honour to give +1S and an additional AP to my Eradicator its been an absolutely stellar little vehicle. Cheap, punchy, durable, its truly the little engine that could haha

honestly every game I have without a Leman Russ Battle Tank I felt weird. They are my safty blanket.

Back in my day, the russ only had heavy bolters and heavy flamers. Only the demolisher could get plasma cannons and multimeltas.

Since the cost of manticores have gone up I've put in a punisher along side my Eradicator and then fields of fire and take aim, still alot of points to counter infantry but it's always alot of fun!! Thanks for the video man.

AWWWWW YEAH!! My Best Tank is back in the Sun. Every one seems to get distracted for a bit by the other combos but it often comes back to the El Classico. Love it Love it!!

I'm hung up between the regular battle cannon or exterminator for my first tank! Both are so good!

If you add the advisors to a command squad, you can give blast sustained hits to a single unit. Seems very valuable

This objective re-roll is why I take this varient in my "pure" tempestus scions. Yes its at BS 4+ not 3+. But it gets objective re-rolls like the infantry!

My Leman Russ is my oldest tank, one of my oldest models.This thing is easily been a main stay in my army for a good 25 years. In nearly every battle that I have fought this tank has been a power house of my army. I put actual battle damage on it, I'm not joking I literally shot it with a pellet rifle. The original pinto mounted stormbolter got shot off and lost, it now has a heavy stubber from a newer kit(The heavy stubber wasn't a thing when I got the tank). I'm so glad its getting some love. It's got the hall mounted lascannon and Heavy Bolters sponsons(only demolishers got plasma and multimelta option back then). No Hunter Killer missile because it cost too much in past editions.

I laugh because as soon as you said it was the regular Battle Tank, I just about closed the video. 😊 Not to crap on the Classic Leman Russ Tank, but it feels weird to have something with a default, and options, and then just go for the default, instead of playing alternatives. And that's not entirely fair, as I know GW won't let certain varieties of Russ be competitive; they allowed the aged Vanquisher to be godly for two weeks, and then they released a version of 40k all about tanks, and big monsters, and put the Vanquisher back in the latrine pit. They made my favorite Executioner amazing; a Guard tank with a main turret energy weapon!, and then they melta'd it by raising Toughness scores meaning you'd do as much damage to yourself. The Punisher...has basically never been good, and that's too bad; they need to mount it on a carriage, like the Earthshaker, so infantry influencing things can improve it. Hell, at this point, I should just be glad this wasn't another video sucking off the Demolisher, as I still don't miss Demolisher Tank Commander spam, from editions past. Oh well, I've whined enough. It is good to see Russes being decent, and competitive, and with long range options, and this was a fun video! 😊

Sah! Theory crafting intel coming through on the old cognibox. It appears to indicate that spamming MBT’s will reduce the value of the scout sentinels. Due to the overlap of full in built rerolls on your main guns vs reroll 1’s from daring recon. Suggest dropping Scout Sentinel for infantry 2nd wave upgrade. +++ See Below +++ Demolisher Tank Commander Grand strategist Exterminator LRMBT LRMBT Catachan Armoured Fist x4 Kaserkin (plasma,melta,mine etc) + Creed in Chimera 10 Scions (plasma,melta) in Chimera (was Kaserkin but 10 points spare. Make a good target for reinforcements as they can just keep deep striking back in.) Scout Sentinel Basilisk Basilisk

Haven't seen the full video yet, but have you considered it's usefullness as a reserve unit? It doesn't need to be ordered +1 to hit as full rerolls to hit is good enough. Can come in on a board edge and clear an enemy homefield objective, perhaps supported by Scions too

Going off what you said about Ursula, this pooped into my mind. It needs some refining but I'm sure everyone will find the solution. Put her with Cadians or Infantry in a Chimera to use her ability. Her ability goes to "Regiment" keyword units, and what unit has it? The sentinel, or more importantly the Scout Sentinel...

From the maths, I wouldnt reroll a hit from a battle cannon. most likely wounding on a 5 or a 6, no point in fishing for 6's with the chonky cannon, yes for the heavy bolters and stubber

An interesting strategy would be park this, a dakka Chimera, and Kasrkin 24-36” away from an objective and blast the crap out of whatever shows up

I know it may not be long for this world, but I'm really loving the Malcador - especially the Annihilator variant. Yes its expensive. Yes there are better options. But as a tank killer it's lovely, and the demolisher cannon is just a bonus for mincing infantry. Also I play Death Korps so it fits the army better than that nasty looking Cadian tank named after the banana primarch....

Don't get me wrong, I like the battle tank, but... My local metta is a LOT of 2+ save models. Terminators and the like (wolf cavalry...). And sure, I can hit them and wound them but they still get a +2 save (cover and the armor of contempt makes the -1 noneffective). Sure, I could get around 9 shots (4+3+1 or 2 blast), hit with almost all so lets say 7-8, wound with all but that would still usually kill one model. And all of this is if the tank had an order on it.

1 tank vs 30 infantry.... My ogryn brain says 30 is more than 1.

My favourite tank is the Castigator. Largely because it's the only one I won lol

i know its not considered good, but the vanquisher is still my go to for guard tank commanders. with orders it can hit on 2s and then reroll wounds on tanks or monsters. its just slaps and i dont care about "efficiency" and blah blah, im here for fun and the Vanq is fun

I would like to see if you could use kasirkin as a grenider unit rush them onto a object with a flammer-mara and how effective it could be in mech guard...im just starting to build ig again after listening to your videos...last time I played guard was in 5th

There’s usually a few hanging around on EBay to pick up, which is what I did, or they are in the Tank Accessory Kit

I think spamming them will lower the value of rerolls, most enemy units won't be on an objective we don't control so maybe only two out of four get reroll the hit roll. And if so, the Scout Sentinel gives the same ability to other tank loadouts. (Reroll ones) Still, I like the old Battle Cannon, if it was AP -2 I would run it a lot more.

have you tried 3 heavy bolters? my thought is you get a long (36") firing lane to an obj and stay still. now we have 9 shots with leath and sustain so you can fish for 6s? Just wondering thoughts?

I ran 3 heavy bolters on mine, it’s a really underwhelming backup even with 9 heavy bolter shots. Losing that lascannon/battle cannon one two combo is big, if you are shooting a horde of medium/light infantry you might as well run a plasma cannon. Every time I fired 9 heavy bolter shots into a stack of 10 death company assault marines I was wishing I had a plasma cannon for min 6 attacks off the start or 4 if they are below 10. With overcharge, wounding on 2s and putting those marines on a 6+ save without having to do fields of fire etc. If you want a good triple heavy bolter fire then get some Ogryns, they are kinda squishy but within 9 inches they fire 18 S5, Ap2, 2D shots. They’re cracked. Or use a heavy bolter weapons squad and abuse the 4+ overwatch to make an extra regular attack out of the squad. 9 heavy bolters hitting on 4s is a good gotcha for charging infantry.

The ability should be within range of an objective, not within range of an objective you don’t control

Don't feel so bad Leman Russ, the German mk IV was the heavy untill the Tigers and Panthets came along.

I have three LR. If points are an issue, would you rather have the sponson weapons or spend those points on a couple sentinels?

Classic Leman Russ was to not put the sponsons on, and just run clean BC Lascannon hull mount. Got more tanks that way, and I’d def add at least a scout sentinel to boost any arty and reroll those 1s nowadays if points came back for equipment. I really hope it doesn’t, cuz I glued all my sponsons on instead of magnetize them.

Where can i get some of those grouped bases? So i can move 10-20 at once! Pls! Help! 😅

i'm stuck with no way to handle my regular who deepstrike his 10 terminators. What is the best weapons loadout to deal with them ?

Screen them out. Deny them the deep strike and force them to drop where You want them or they walk onto the board.

I like the rerolls, I hate how scrappy the Battle Canon is. I know you hate the D6 damage of the demolisher, but it is the real anti tank Russ and the exterminator is just miles better than the battle tank.

Fair point. That demo tank is good. I like to use that for tank commanders though as it shoots on death.

Maybe not the place for it, but Tank Commanders. I had been using Demolisher Cannons, well, just because. I've taken to running them as Kamikaze units. Up front, taking the hits, shouting orders, waiting for Death Befitting an Officer to kick in. I hadn't calculated Blast. A lot of times, I find myself in engagement range when I meet my demise. I find the Exterminator Autocannon better suited to the Kamikaze role. This along with two Multi-Melta's. Anyway, random thought.
