There is a stigma associated with step through bikes, it’s basically associated with being a girls bike but personally I couldn’t care less.

Yeah I like the M20 Pro and I'm thinking of a dual battery job the upgrade controller, motors brakes, suspension etcbut I'm a crossbar kinda guy, it helps to stretch a bit lol.

I own the M20 and my wife has the L20. Your numbers are similar to what our American 750 watt bikes do. They have been impressing me on a daily basis. They do well off road and on hill climbs. They are well built machines

That is actually a 48v bike with an 18amp controller that peaks at 960 watts and is rated at 750 watts continuous. In the USA this bike is technically illegal as it goes over 20mph by throttle alone. How could it be otherwise, the thing goes 25mph and flys uphill. If I were in the UK, I’d buy one in a second!! I live in the US and bought the class 2 Wired freedom (60v 2000 watts, 40mph when it is unlocked). Nice to have the power and speed if you need it.

I've just started looking into these ebikes, this one looks great.

The front light on the L20 can also be mounted on the fork brace using the front mudguard bolt

You can have the Throttle activated as long as it doesn't propel you faster than 3.7 mph! I was just reading all the stuff last night for my new one and come across the part about the 3.7 mph legal Throttle use! You can use it if you are older n have disabilities trying to put the power down to set off

I never noticed the L20 when I was hunting for a EBike and went for the Engwe Engine X 250 and what a blast and getting my NHS friend to look at this model to get and I love the look of the Olive green and love to get one to match my folded up bike and a side note many thanks for making my mind up on the folding fat tyre bike I bought with your reviews

Probably on the pavement or in a bike lane with most of the other people who use motorised bikes. Is it a lack of physical fitness thing or just cba getting insurance, taking a test and riding a proper motorbike? I suppose ebike users would have to be accountable then and that wouldn't do.

This one looks really good. Might wait for some of those upgrades though.

This is the bike i want...but the foldability of the PVY just tips it for me. I live in a flat and Im hoping to take it on the train to the coast at some point

I do think the speed limit in the uk should be at least 20/25mph depending on the rider, but that's me that olso depends where I'm riding

Your reviews are very good. I'd love for you to do one on Engwe's Engine X to see how it compares to this L20 and the Engine Pro. I know I don't want either the 750w EP2 Pro or Engine Pro as I don't want it confiscated and to be fined etc. I'm 16 and a half stone, and need something that's going to get me and some cargo up the steep hills hereabouts. The Engine X is marked as having a 250W motor but it can be unlocked as can its throttle. I'd love to see you put it through your hill test.

The engine x is the same as the ep-2 pro basically. The engine pro is the bike you want if you are trying to get a lot of weight up a steep hill.

Thanks! I think the Engine X is a similar situation to the L20 where it will be faster and more torquey than the motor badge would suggest. So depends on whether you want cargo or folding. I prefer the L20 shape. I still have 2 of their bikes to review I might ask for the X when I'm done.

The real motor power of this bike is 500 watts (both eu and us models rebranded as 250/750 same exact engine )wich paired with the 48v makes it really a good combo.

They are so cool! You know I was having a similar thought not long ago. We used to call them 'computer bikes' and most had the sound module on the handlebars. They would be so cool as electric bikes.

Well to do it you need to turn off the bike, hold the brake and throttle then turn on the bike and keep holding brake and throttle for ten seconds so it depends how good your balance is 😂

I have the ep-2 - I'd weigh up how much you really need the folding feature as it kinda messes with the geometry of the bike - a bit narrow/wobbly/funny handlebar angle, and it's pretty heavy. looking at this L20 I'd happily have bought it instead of the ep2 - i like the front rack and green colour more

As regards your braking ... you might want to adjust the Front / Rear bias

You can definitely help. When i got to 29/29 mph i was definitely helping. Cruising at 25 you don't have to help but you can always knock it down a level and help it out. I don't mind ghost pedalling I just need to remind myself I don't need to be whizzing around real fast. Thanks for watching 👍👍

I'm loving the L20 and wanting one..a discount through your you tube makes it £950 UK pounds from Poland. My question is...Do you think, or do you think they will bring a PRO version with Hydraulic Breaks? As much better for my arthritic fingers... This bike would be lovely for me to get out for picnics by the river. And shopping over to Stourbridge along the canal.. My current 250w Halfords citi folding is just not upto long journeys..and a pain up hills. Be lovely to hear from you... Take care Jim

Ooh good question. I can ask them. I asked the same question about m20 pro and they said no plans. I'd say check out the one in my latest video but i bet you like the look of the step through.

I love a utiltarian e-bike especailly as things like aero and weight become less important. Assist speed of 15.5 is fine for me it's about 60% of my non assisted speed and I usually cruise about 16mph analgoue so for me it's about eliminating the hills and allowing me to not question adventures and taking stuff to work. 20mph just causes too much strain on my compenents and it stops becoming an assist and just becomes the primary power of motion which feels disengaged and defeates the point of being on the bike for me.

Yea, they do need to look at this, power and ability to get up hills with larger folks on and equipment etc puts the base 250w bikes with the dinosaurs, we need at least 500 and throttles to make these bikes easier and safer to use

Totally with you on this. No reason all bikes can't be 1000w but limited. They don't have to accelerate crazily either as some people think they must if they're that powerful.

It's very hard to find the torque for the L20 which is most important for climbing hills. I suspect it is between 40 and 50 nm when a Cube bike with a Bosch motor has 70 to 80 nm. It is however more than twice the price. It's almost as if Engwe and Ado etc hide the torque figures.

You can use cruise mode, you need to hold booster aprox. 8 seconds to get it on 😃

This bike has a lot in common to the RadRunner plus. I got the lower model of RadRunner 2 and I love it. The hills in my area that used to give me issues basically have melted away with that ebike. It is properly set to Canada's class 2 specification with a 500w motor and 32kph/20mph limiter on it. Would be nice to have the US limit of 750w but I feel bad where you are you are limited to only 250w. That said with the speed you were getting you clearly were doing more than 250w and it shows. In your own test data it kept up with another 750w bike.

Yeah i think this is there version of the Radrunner basically. I wish all 250w ebikes were done like this. Basically a lot more powerful but limited in speed.

@e-VRC 1 thing you could mention in some reviews is tire pressure having the right pressure does help with keeping them battery bars up in eco riding and cruising I have mine set at 16.5 psi as said only just got mine so I'm in testing phase

How do you feel about the bike 6 months on ? Any problems ?

The max speed in the uk is 70mph, if your so determined to force limited speed on ebikes, insurance license etc then you must then consider all cars have limiter fitted to 70mph, after all they are already on HGV PCV and ebikes, its time then to fit them to cars.

I really like the way the battery easily lifts out of this bike for a change, but i wouldnt swap it for the Engine Pro. I took the rear pannier rack off my bike and it looks even better. It is a nice bike though. I saw one parked right across the road from me whilst i was having a beer. Then a guy about 80 got on it and sped off up the road 😂

How does it do getting up kerbs? Does the low build mean it catches? Does it have a decent walk assist so I can wheel it up a step into the house? If pedal assist is so slow, how does that work on a hill start?

Should bounce up kerbs no problem. Yeah hold down for wall assist. There's always the throttle on hill start but if not using it just remember to be in gear 1 when you come to a stop 👍

Anyone know how hard this would be on climbing a 20 degree hill with? You chatting a fair bit of effort? Or just easy pedal?

On a normal MTB i pedal to 35 km/h, and my current e-MTB cuts off at 25 km/h and then e-brakes to slow me down when i go over. So i think 30-35 km/h should be standard/top for e bikes, not 25 km/h which is slower than i would ride with no motor on it.

Max Speed test i can pedal a my bike up to 30miles an hour and im the only motor on it ? And most ebike speedometers are not set very accurately

That could be the answer to my bike packing woes

I’m happy riding mine at 25mph max speed on open road. 10-15mph on sidewalks to avoid automobile traffic…

Does all the engwe bikes come with their throttle locked? How do you get it working?

My ENGWE T14 seems to have the same power train setup but no derailleur, it will carry me up fairly shallow hills 10% after which it is possible to pedal or you walk, 'pedal assist' while it is there isn't really possible at most normal (up to 15 mph) cruising speeds, what is needed is a choice of gears for the motor not the peddler.

I was thinking this myself about the way the battery fits in. I've had one for a while but no chance to review. I'll be doing a review/range test in the coming weeks so that'll be interesting.... any issues getting your battery to fit properly? The one I have doesn't fit perfectly with the locking mechanism.

@@e-VRC no my battery slides in neatly, I bought this folder because I can take it on train journeys, however the bus companies are becoming wary of e bikes because of fear of the batteries. Great Western trains has banned e scooters but not e bikes. I have thought of buying a spare battery in order to extend range, I saw someone's homemade type bike which was clearly fitted with two batteries.

@@e-VRC yes, I felt I recognised the same components, of course the T14 has smaller wheels, but for a thing that folds up easily & under £500 from Bangood when I bought it seemed an ideal way for me to test the waters of e bikes. As supplied you bang your knees on the handlebars so I have fitted a handlebar extender which moves the crossbar up & a bit forward. The thing is essentially a mini bike like the old Honda mopeds. I was introduced to an electric folding Brompton which made me jealous of everything but the price!

it probably is a 250watt motor, but its also probably a 36 volt motor with a 48 volt controller and battery, that would make it go alot faster, but still keeps it legal, you will just burn out the motor faster

Would be good if you tried big game bike and compare to all the others?????

I like the look of this bike but I'm 6'2". Is there enough adjustment in the seat post to accommodate taller riders?

The bike could still be limited to 15mph but the regulations need to allow more torque for climbing and a speed limited throttle if they want us out of our cars. The current 250w are not useful enough so sadly i choose any of my three gas guzzlers for most trips

Thats what they want. Everyone on powerful ebikes would be less tax money and less oil use.

Is it possible to use the throttle and pedal at the same time or do I have to choose between the both? The bike I have today have that choice but it's getting old and things are starting to break I use my bike all year around with winter tires in the winter. I also experience some difficulties getting on the bike I have now due to hip issues and the L20 looks like that won't be an issue :)

Yeah they work at the same time. Only thing I'm not sure about is throttle but no pedal assist. I think in power 0 the throttle doesn't work.

Thanks! Now that's a complicated question... well the answer is... so it's attached to the insta360.invisible selfie stick. That is then attached to a Ulanzi super clamp. Now that alone isn't enough, the selfie stick will fall down and aim at the floor. So I've taken a smallrig super clamp (which alone is crap - nearly killed my gopro) and on the end you screw to the camera I've screwed in the clamp 'mouth' of a smallrig magic arm. This means i have a double sided clamp which i use to clamp the selfie stick to another part of the bike higher up. It makes a mount greater than the sum of it's parts 😂😂

Where in uk can I buy one of these please I used to own an A20 ADO Bike it was very good, but had it stolen

I would really love to buy it but with my 195cm I'm almost sure I'm really too tall for this small bike

Is the steer and saddle height adjustable?

I think the Uk limit should be raised to 20mph and a throttle allowed... But i doubt it will ever happen.

It's a ridiculous law. My folding road bike can hit 22mph without much trouble. And I've been on a 16lb carbon road bike that hit 33MPH. This 15.5mph law makes no sense..

It'll never encourage car drivers to switch over to a "green" transport that does half the urban speed limit. It's silly cos I'm 54 and can maintain 20-22mph on legs all day. Even got stopped in my youth for doing 37mph downhill, in a 30 zone.

Throttle is the holding handle thing in the video. Then increasing speed limit is done in the computer it's quite easy.

Hi, I've just started following you on tiktok, watched most of your ebike reviews on KZread too. Last year I broke my left leg in three places and I'm just getting back into bike riding again. I've had ebikes in the past, but I'm considering getting another in the future as bike riding (unless uphill) is less painful than walking, I'm also stupid slow at walking too! I've been wanting the Engwe L20, but my eldest son like how the Engwe Engine pro looks more and thinks I should get that instead. I'm not new to ebikes and had a 1000w ebike in the past and used it to get to and from work. Which would you recommend, ignoring the price? I'm thinking of getting a DYU D3F just for now until I find a job, then upgrade. Thanks for reading. 😁 Stella. P. S. Have you seen the niubility B14S?

Hey! Yeah I saw that a minute ago 😂😂 ooh good question. I love the L20 but technically the Engine Pro is the higher spec bike: better gears, brakes, speed. I rarely fold it but it can be handy. I personally prefer the shape of the L20 and the better handlebars means it's easier to control. You can change the engine pro handlebars though and it looks amazing when you do. D3f is a decent escooter-y ebike, reviewed it not too long ago. Welcome back to ebiking 🤟🤟

@@e-VRC the Niubility B14S looks interesting and is relatively cheap too. Just can't find many reviews in English. The ones I have seen just seem to be generic "Here's a bike, it's goes, it's good", not what I'm looking for in a review, lol!

@@e-VRC I figure the D3F would be handy to nip to the shops. There's a hill on the way back that I can just about manage without stopping (but being incredibly dead) on my current bike, maybe with the extra oomph I wouldn't be so dead! 😂

at least 20mph n if not in crowed areas, eg centre of towns citys then 25mp should be allowed

Hi. Have you tested the himiway escape pro? I can’t decide which will be best for me. This Engwe L20 or the himiway escape pro. I have arthritis so need a good suspension and easy ride no resistance. I know they’re both heavy bikes but which would be best for a woman?

Not tried the himiway. I love this bike but it sounds like you'd benefit from rear suspension.

Can you take a passenger on the back? I need to take my child to school. Looking at fiido t1 pro for this reason but it’s fairly illegal haha

It looks just like the Fiido T1 Pro, which looks just like the Radrunner. The Fiido is better IMO so I bought one - (bigger battery & hydraulic brakes).

Radrunner was one of the first ebikes I ever saw a review about cool bike. For me the Rad and the Fiido definitely look a bit more 'workhorse' and aren't quite as cool looking as the L20.

I love a step thru bike, especially if youre a man of a certain age and adility!!

Don't know what your doing with these bikes but I had a cheap Halfords bike... Prob the cheapest ebike... No suspension, it had a suntour hesc 250w hub motor on the back... I live off a hill at least twice as steep as that one and the suntour rips up the hill at full speed with 50nm of torque... Impressive motors them suntour and the new version has 70nm of torque...

So what was your actual range as opposed to the claimed range .

To get those max speed figures is that getting the bike from engwe uk site or ordering from over seas
