My new atlas arrived, how did I determine my crawl ratio?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Part 27 of my budget rockcrawler build. In this video install my new atlas, and discuss how I determined what crawl ratio to go with. I also go over how I clocked my transferase to fit my build.

Another awesome video, is there a reason why you are going with a 4L60 in the new buggy vs the turbo 400 like your other buggy? ive been gathering parts to swap the 6L i have into my xj on 42s, and am more towards the turbo 400

Thanks! The biggest reason I am using the 4l60 is because the motor, transmission and harness all work together without adapters. Once I looked into it further, I liked that it had a deeper first gear, and over drive. I have been hearing of more people using them for those reasons too. The TH400 is great too.

@@wheelinoutwest Right on! for the same reason of not having a harness for the engine and trans is why i am leaning th400, very cool info though. I knew id loose some gearing vs the stock jeep driveline set up

Just did the crawl ratio calculator and I got 55.43 for my JKU. I sort of understand what it means, but sort of don’t. Im assuming the larger the number the better?

For me it was more a baseline, or a sanity check. My last crawler I found what I liked through trial and error. Using the calculator just helped me know the final ratio would be similar to my current crawler. Do you have an auto, or manual transmission? From my past experiences, an auto is more forgiving, where manuals need a higher ratio, or your slipping the clutch a lot.

@@wheelinoutwest automatic. 2.84 transmission first gear, 4:1 transfer case, 4.88 axle ratios. When I’m in 4L off-road it just crawls on it’s own great. Great speed for my liking. I don’t typically get all wrapped up in the numbers like this. I just thought it was cool.

Is it possible to drive only in front or rear-wheel drive?

Yes it is, the atlas allows you to put it in front high or low, and rear high or low separate of each other. To turn sharper you can disengage the rear drive, and use the front to spin you around.

Try to minimize doing down hands their weak and love to snap under serious stress instead of holding under stretche

I tested multiple tacks weld vs down hands and multiple tacks going vertical up is better for metal core
