Thank you for sharing. I always enjoy seeing other people's kits. I have a few mosquito nets. They're very handy in Florida US. Would advise anyone getting one, make sure the mesh is black. It's easier to see through than green. A friend of mine gave me a small plastic magnifier. What's handier for me is a magnifying app I use on my Samsung phone. I can even take pictures with it. Its like a macro lens for a phone. I have a took kit palette by Expeditionary Arts. LOVE IT. Am enjoying your channel. Thank you.

Thanks Eileen. :) Good point about making sure its black to see through more easily, I hadn't thought of that. The macro lens app for the Samsung phone sounds really interesting - I only zoom in but this sounds better? I've just received an Art Toolkit palette to try out (through Marley Peifer's Patreon) so I am also keen to see if it suits my needs! :)

I tend to take a lot especially for camping trips since I get in a mood for watercolor, but later for colored pencil or ink. I'm really loving Inktense pencils and a waterbrush because of their bright and intense colors. Fun

Yes I think if I'm camping I prefer to have a bit more choice too, but walking or hiking might take less. The Inktense sound like nice pencils for vibrant effects. 😁 I'm definitely going to be using watercolour pencil more often, I used mine a bit in April and like the effect.

I've been having nature journaling adventures with my partner, I love watercolor and he loves photography... so at least once or twice on every walk, I'll sit for a good sketch (often with my three watercolor pencils - a coolish neutral, a neutralish neutral, and a warmish neutral) while he pops off for a few more photos nearby. Works like a dream (:

That sounds like a good combination! 😁 I like the three watercolour pencils colour choices. Do you add water? Is it always the same three? I've recently been trying out a set of 6 grey pens in 3 warm and 3 cool, varying darkness that have been helpful for identifying the values in a landscape. Is that similar to what you sketch?

@Kim's NJ Adventures I do add water sometimes, I always have two water brushes handy. But usually it's just the sketch, and I can paint it at home if I want. Sketching in person engrains a much better understanding of a subject, so it's worth it. I used the same three colors for a long while but just swapped them out. I'm now carrying four! Not perfectly balanced but it works. A soft brown and green, a light cool gray and a dark warm gray. Most of our adventures are woodsy/riverside so it's fitting. And if I paint using other colors, these often just blend in, and it looks like I put in real effort to shade or blend. (Despite my laziness 😂) The gray pens sound wonderful!! Value can be so tricky sometimes but honestly if you can do that, you're effectively unstoppable.

I use a smaller Ethnotek bag for my travel watercolor bag. Its perfect for me as I usually don't go far out. Its a good size cross body bag but fits a bunch. Great video, lots of good info, thanks!

I think I might have that one too, but I found I filled it up with too much and it hurt my neck (especially with my big waterbottle and camera gear). However it had great storage for pens etc and good access! Thanks :D

My kit is pretty much the same. I also have a small rain poncho, mosquito wipes, a compass and a rite in the rain notepad. I’m on the US Gulf, so it rains often and the mosquitoes can be really bad. I also have a small jewelers eye loop so I can examine small things that I have a hard time seeing with the naked eye.

Sounds like smart additions for a rainy place. Yes I've wanted a small jewellers loupe for a while now, they sound so useful. :)

This is the first one of your videos that I’ve seen. I did inktober for the first time last year and I also used a handmade book with brown paper! But stupidly I forgot about using a white pen (which was why I used brown paper in the first place haha). I love seeing when other people have made their own books too! I don’t specifically do a “nature journal”, just whatever catches my eye whether natural or man made, but I’d like to include more nature journal style pages in my sketchbooks. My art kit is in a smaller bag, but I’m in the uk and have less extreme weather and safety precautions to carry with me.

You should definitely try with white pen, it's a really nice effect, I love it! I've been missing out actually because I finished this sketchbook a while ago and have been meaning to make a new one and record the process but not got around to it yet. I'm going to see if I can find your inktober pages! 🤗 I think a smaller art bag is probably easier. 😃

@@KimsNJAdventures I have used the white pen a few times on the brown paper but for some reason didn’t think about it for inktober. I thought about going back and adding some highlights later, but that felt like cheating haha. I did a video on making a book…. Although I ended up making two books because my memory card filled up (twice) and I didn’t notice, so I had to re-film parts of the process!! Haha!
