Denise is insane. Laura is the one working her butt off so she and her sister can have a better life. Yet Denise is so selfish and drowning herself in debt and trouble that she can't accept responsibility and get a job. That's probably one of the main reasons her husband left her. She kept using and taking his money. Then when he left she probably tried to do the same to daughters. But when she saw that bank statement... Denise is the worst.
Supporting someone who continually makes poor choices is called Enabling. The girls were lucky that their Dad and Step-mom were supportive and understanding. Not everyone gets that type of outcome.

Their mother was irresponsible and manage her life goals and parenting horribly. Taking risks may have seem brave to her but people who think belief and will power is all you need to have a successful endeavor is wrong. Dreaming is nice but keeping your feet on the ground is important.
