Nice idea! Most of the time a big difference is the durability of the paint once it's used on the canvas. Cheap paint looses it's contrast and depth exposed to sunlight way faster. But this takes time so I don't think we'll see this in a video. Anyway I'm really interested in the differences while the painting progress too!

when you mentioned that you use cheap paint most of the time and that some folks disregard your work, it baffled me! I rarely use craft grade paint or non artisan grade paint bc it takes just so much work/paint to get a good result?? You're absolutely amazing!

Partly this reaction is because craft paint is often not light fast or designed to last for long. Which means you might as well paint in chocolate for all the value it can have commercially. Art is often seen and used as currency so these sorts of reactions are not necessarily about skill or art style but more about the work not being able to fulfill this monetary function in addition to the aesthetic one. Of course if you don’t intend to sell it then painting with craft paint or even chocolate is your business. Just not if selling to someone else. I think reactions are often particularly bad because of the number of people who don’t seem to care or realise their work is going to be very short lived but still expect someone to buy it for lots of money. They give others a bad name. Unless you create works which are designed to change over their life and the buyer is informed of this. You could have a permanent under painting with fugitive overpaint which gradually fades to reveal a new image, for example. Which could be really cool.

Still can’t get over the fact how talented you are. Your eye for detail is awesome! You see things I could never see and when it’s finished it all makes sense and makes it really come alive. expensive paint or not, you are brilliant!

The fact that you use non-expensive paints for your gallery shows that you are a talented artist and you don't need super expensive paints to make your art look good! It shows anyone can paint with anything.

I always do this with things! Some things just seem too pretty/expensive, and too good to use (but feel nice to own)? I'm glad you're doing art again, it makes me happy to see you happy🤍✨

Those are my favorite acrylics to use as well, they have a wonderful consistency... Like creamy butter.

Boldmere Acrylics from The Works are my Favourite, but I'm thinking of using my Dad's Arteza Acrylic paints...

The fact that you use the cheapest paint you can find makes your art so much more impressive to me!

If you told me you do all your artwork with cheaper paints, I wouldn't immediately praise your artistry instead of disregarding it. You're so talented, that Pikachu is so vibrant!

Every painting you do looks so good. Some are even life-like, they look like they're going to pop off the canvas. And most, if not all, of what you do is so adorable. I love watching your videos. They usually bring a smile to my face.

Never judge someone by the quality/ price of their stuff. It's how they use it that matters. Although some cheap crap is nearly impossible to make look good

Awesome and cute. I love when you do painting videos. I personally very much favor quality paint for all my work. Ive been able to thoroughly compare cheap vs artist grade for acrylic, watercolor, and oils. It always makes a huge difference both during the process and in the end result. I know what you mean though when people disregard the artwork when they find out the materials were cheap. I find it more impressive when people make stunning artwork with low quality paint because its harder. However i wouldnt be as likely to buy it because its less likely to last.

That came out incredible and you can immediately see a difference in the vibrancy of the colors Jamie. If you were to repaint one of your other paintings using those paintings and sat them side by side, you’d see a difference in the colors, paint texture and quality. Even though both paintings are still equally beautiful on their own. I love you and Tom you’re both so sweet together. Stay safe and stay Sweet. I on the other hand have a 6 month old Puppers with Kidney Disease whose’s not feeling well today. She’s getting fixed tomorrow (fingers crossed) if the Damage to her Kidneys isn’t too bad. They are going to run another test when they have her. Just to see. ... so I’m off to make her as comfortable as I can for now. She’s my little buddy.

I got so excited when i saw they were Liqitex i actually squealed! Lol. I love that brand so much and got into it thanks to where i work. I have more of the basics than the heavy body but i think i have maybe almost a dozen and i love the colors 😍. I was so happy when i saw you uploaded today, this year has been hard not only with everything going on in the world but i lost my mom to cancer almost a month ago but your videos genuinely bring me a sense of calm and a smile on my face every time i watch a video. Your talent and the beauty of your art work is not diminished by the type of paint you use. Your work is beautiful and I adore watching you! I don't care what you use! You do you and what you love! Smol tip? If you use thinning mediums with your heavy body paint, you might find you like it better than adding water. You keep more opacity and richness without removing binder and it can extend your drying time for blending and mixing. :) ( I know you like oils, so I thought you might enjoy that idea.)

I bought a set of basic acrylic Liquitex paint years ago, and because the colours are so vibrant you don't need nearly as much as for others, so I am still using the same box, which hasn't dried out or gone bad in any way. I am definitely very happy with the set, even though it might not be the cheapest set to buy, it is very much worth the money.

Like you, I use that brand of paint .. but mostly the 'Basics' range which is excellent too. If there are colours I need that aren't in the range I use the 'Soft Body'. I use these for brush application and/or airbrushing which needs taking down with medium. They really are terrific paints that tick all the boxes .. non fading, archival etc. I am a retired person and the subject matter of my paintings differs totally from yours and could be classed as somewhat serious but I follow you as I love your work and find you inspirational. It's your spirit that shines through .. oh, and my partner and I generally think that any time not spent in Japan is wasted time!

I got a set of these paints when they were 70% off in a sale from Cass Art, they're fantastic! I tend to use cheap paint as a base coat then go in with these for a second coat or details :)

if anything, it is really amazing what people can do with cheap paint or equipment in general. i'm more in the photography field and people never believe me when i tell them that my photos from the first 6 years were made with a compact digital camera. people try so hard to tell others what is or looks professional and what doesn't. please never throw away your passion or love in creating because people are price or technic snobs.
