@@ZombieChan84 This is a misconception. Geisha were entertainer's and hostess, they primarily Sung, Danced and Played music along with serving food and drinks. They were primarily hired by high class people to work at parties and on stage, they were basically bards. The term your looking for is Courtesan/Oiran. These were prostitutes not Geisha, there was also a big precedent for Oiran specifically that worked in Pleasure Districts to be Male it wasn't until much later on that they were mostly female.

the X in chopper always felt like a bandaid to me rather than a medical cross, because old school cartoons almost never had a single bandaid shown, most of the time it was 2 bandaids on top of each other, forming an X and that's what I always saw Chopper's X as.

Chopper being mistaken for a tanuki or racoondog or whatever it is, is just a cultural/local joke that doesn't connect with the western audience tbh. @Taika you’re basically correct, everyone refers to Ivankov with masculine pronouns, although there’s not a doubt in my mind that tells me he’d get fussy over being called she/her.

@Taika (this reply is kinda long so here’s a tldr lol: Ivankov isn’t picky with Japanese honorifics so you can call him “Iva-chan” [which is feminine if added to an adult’s name] and he wouldn’t care) A piece of info that may or may not contribute to this conversation though is that “He is noted for not being picky on what Japanese honorific someone can use when addressing him.” (Quoted from the One Piece wiki). Y’know how characters usually refer to him as “Iva-sama”? The honorific “-sama” is comparable to addressing someone as a lord/lady. So, super formal/comes with a connotation of authority. I assume that most people who use -sama with Ivankov’s name mean the former considering he’s known as a “Miracle Person” and is the Okama King, but I digress. Continuing with honorifics, the quoted statement would mean it’s also alright if someone were to call him “Iva-chan”. If you remember, Bentham (or Bon Clay/Kurei as you’d probably know him best as) is referred to affectionately as “Bon-chan” by Luffy. I forget if he said Luffy could call him “Bon-chan” or if Luffy came with the name on his own, but either way, as you MIGHT’VE read in the tldr, the -chan honorific is most often used with children, though you can also use -chan with women you know closely. And as we know, Bon-chan here claims himself to be both man AND woman, which is why he had two codenames in Baroque Works and no partner. So it’d make sense. Anyway, continuing with the “Iva-chan” thing, it probably wouldn’t matter to him if you even added the opposite to his name, which is the “-kun” honorific that when used generally, it’s typically addressing boys and men. In the end, “Iva-sama”, “Iva-chan”, “Iva-kun”; it really doesn’t matter to him lol. Think of Ivankov as whatever you want, cuz I’m sure he, she, or they, would be down with it.

Boa's beautiful face making his mom assume she must be a good guy is hilariously in character for her

"Even though he's a skull man, he might be a good man." I love it, his mom is so sweet.

This just makes me realize how thought out Oda's characters are designed. The fact that someone who doesn't know the characters and can still nail so many of their rolls is amazing.

The Sanji one was the best to me because she was able to tell he was going through something in the specific picture and he was.

@Blesson Franklin , I cried almost all of my tear drops away during the Going Merry’s death in Enies Lobby than I did in the entirety of the Titanic novel, so yes Oda really does know how to write emotional scenes better than people in the Western world.

Please make more of this, it is wholesome and we can learn a lot of character design from the perspective of non-readers/non viewers. This is really nice.

I think Sanji's eyebrows are more supposed to be backwards sixes. All of his siblings (of the Germa 66) have eyebrows that are mirrors of his, i.e. the look like sixes. He's also the one "failed" experiment.

She was sooo accurate. I think that really goes to show you that Oda knows how to draw characters and portray them well enough that someone that knows nothing about one piece, can just look at a picture, and know who they are already.

Really amazingly precise: Luffy being curious, Zoro being a drinker, Ussop being a liar, Sanji being calm, Chopper being a deer and a doctor, Brook being funny, Vivi being a princess, Law being serious, Remembering Sanji's eyebrow to connect him to Reiju, Marco being calm, Crocodile being arrogant... Should have showed her the crazier characters like Moriah, Big Mom, Kaido, Wapol and such.

Hey im not trying to be a grammar nazi i just want to point a mistake you made hoping that you wil learn and prevent from making the same mistake again in the future and who knows there will be a grammar nazi out there someday. anyway it should have been your mom and not you're. You're is a combination of you and are you can use you're with the following you are pretty see now the words are seperate from each other so it should be you're pretty the letter A is left out you use YOUR with possesions, something that you own or something that belongs to someone an example would be your car or your mom. again not being a grammar nazi just want to help someone out hope this makes it a little bit clear

Part two with Big Mom, Kaido, Blackbeard, the other supernovas, all the top navy men (vice admirals, admirals, Cp9), Revolutionary army and ofc Bartolomeo! Could make 100 of these videos and still have named characters in One piece :D

I love how she’s like pointing out everything unique and their specific character traits just from seeing 1 picture... zoro, 3 swords loves to drink, Ussop the liar, chopper the doctor, luffy the ultimate adventurer, sanji the thoughtful cook, brook the funny entertaining guy

im 10 minutes in and his mother must have learned from his grandma because she's getting nearly everything right... she's even teaching me things about choppers design???

This video is a testament to the well thought out details that Oda puts into his character design. Everything from Usopp's nose being a physical manifestation of his lying and bragging, to the contrast between Boa's face and her clothing showing that she looks pretty but is a terrible person, and how Marco's poses relate to his personality. It's all very interesting!
