Carl Sagan is one of the few celebrities I (mostly) trust. RIP. But I think he was missing a couple variables in this problem; selfishness and community. I'm not talking about our universal selfishness or self preservation, but about those born without a conscience and the ones conditioned to never develop theirs. These selfish people gravitate toward (bootlick) other selfish people with more power, happily lying, applying social pressure, threatening, and much worse for their cult leader because it elevates them as well. The power they have comes more often than not from their ability to provide community to people who have no other community, and remove members from the community at will. Being without a community is devestating to your mental and physical wellbeing, and our "individualist" society has done everything in its power to destroy any community that doesn't help the status quo, so there are a lot of lonely, desperate people out there willing to suspend their disbelief or even just lie in order to get or maintain a support network.

Seems like in 🇺🇸, just so long as you cannot tie specific dollars to specific votes, anything short of that is allowed. When called out on this, officials tend to claim “innocent until proven guilty”. But that principle is supposed to apply to private citizens going about their everyday business, not to those holding positions of statutory power. If you are given such power, then you must be seen to exercise it impartially and transparently, otherwise you should be sacked.

The sad fact is he likely would've received the 2016 Presidential nomination however the Clinton's financed the DNC from 2015-2016 & had the DNC covertly sabotage Senator Sanders nomination. Then in 2020 the wealthy political elites worked behind the scenes to make sure Bernie didn't get the nomination again. Many millions are actually listening to everything Senator Sanders says or talks about. The smart, caring, compassionate people know Bernie is 1 of the most honest, caring public servants to EVER hold public office. It saddens me every single day, literally, that Bernie isn't the President because he should be - why? - because he's the most qualified & actually cares. I pray Senator Sanders runs in 2024... even if he has to run as an Independent because the Democratic establishment has screwed Bernie over twice already 2016 & 2020.

That is a big lie, the social security administration is not part of the American economy. Most of the Latino voters have lived in their own country and seen what socialism has to offer in the way of living and are strongly against it. They believe the capitalist conservatives are good for them. Let's face the fact that American citizens are now the new minority and we must try to help those who don't understand that we as Americans have lived under the conservative government where the wealthy got the breaks in taxes and the working class paid more without raising minimum wages.

Serious question: why did you spend your whole life working low-paying jobs? Does anyone else hear this? Low-paying jobs are exactly that: low-paying. You can't legislate away poverty, ask Romania. So the question is why didn't you take advantage of the socioeconomic mobility America offers? If you learn a skill you can earn double what you get at a "low-paying" job. Well, idk now you used to. Now you have to learn a skill, and then improve upon it because burger flippers now make $20/hr, so now you need a higher-level cert to make more money. Low level admin jobs that were perfect for low-skilled, but highly-educated people like recent college grads now pay the same as a job that requires absolutely nothing. I don't understand the mentality where you work in one job your entire life and expect your pay to scale with someone who takes risks to learn new skills, go back to school and earn a degree, complete a certification, or start a business. Promote _yourself._ Do you believe you stop developing after childhood? Please answer why you think you should work at the same level and get more just because you're older.

Bernie nailed it as usual. I'm in my young sixties and I'm receiving barely enough to eat from my SS but no more. But I fear the future for the youngest Americans is bleak. By the time the leaders of this and other countries react it'll be too late. Climate change is at our doorstep and if people think the wealth gap is too extreme now, just wait till twenty years from now.

Educate our youth - remember when America led the world? We've been ceding that leadership for decades now, riding on the accomplishments of a generation ago. Outrageous, I tell you - outrageous!! (/s) If we took 25% of our almost trillion-dollar military budget - leaving us as still the most powerful military on the planet - we could go a long way to accomplishing those goals. If you (not you specifically, JJ, just everyone) vote for someone and then don't hold them accountable, WE'RE the problem, not them. As to your specific questions - I'm not a policy wonk, let's ask any of the countries that make such things work. The problem is that the American people of all political stripes have been convinced that we don't need an FDR or JFK ("Ask not..."), we need a Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump who make them feel good about themselves instead of solving problems. Of course, Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump personally had no problems. They were rich and had gotten rich in useless entertainment jobs. (That's where Trump made most of his own money, not real estate.) Entertainment is nice icing on the cake if everything else -- education, health care, the environment, nutrition, and fairness in society -- is already securely taken care of. That's not the way the American people think today and they have sold much of their freedom to the rich (why should your boss be able to send you email at home or while you're in a restaurant or playing beach volleyball with your family and friends?), and become beholden to them, unable to ignore that email, because they do not feel secure. Only the rich feel secure. Even someone as incompetent as Donald Trump can muddle his way through life knowing he will survive somehow, because he's rich or perceived to be rich. Bernie is basically right on the nose about the problems we are facing, who caused them and who is definitely not going to solve them for us. As long as we continue to elect lawmakers who do not serve us, the people, as a whole, this is only going to get worse.

New for? So you wanthim to get up into a war? GIVE TRILLIONS of taxpayer dollars to foreign governments and hold our economy down until we get into another war. My father's favorite story on Frankie was when he ordered SHIPLOADS of potatoes to be taken into the Atlantic and DUMPED. BTW all the military that had lick British or Russian asses would really look forward to seeing YOU lead the way.
