Thank you for sharing. I can totally relate. I was a child counselor and actually had to leave the field due to burnout and internalizing too much of the stuff I was witness to. We have to remember as counselors the types of energies you are constantly exposed to on the regular are very different than what many others experience. People tend to seek counseling at tough, tragic, and most difficult times in their lives. We bear witness to trauma, anxiety, depression, abuse, DV and so many others. Sometimes all that secondary exposure adds up. What has helped me is to ground and return to nature. It helps to slow things down sometimes. I also had a very strong, instant connection to tarot, it 's wavered at times. I think that is natural, like you said with a lot of relationships in life and that's ok. Great idea to grab a comfort deck! If it feels good/comforting/easy then, that might mean it's what you need. Sometimes intuition gets foggy, especially for people like us- that really do care about the world and understand how we are all connected. Wish you healing and good vibes ✨✨

I resonate with your feelings, and I hope you move through this moment swiftly. I actually stopped reading decks as often to maintain my connection to spirit, etc. Weekly seems to work for me, and then as needed during the week. One of my goals is to strengthen my meditation practice because I think that will help with connection, too. And I feel you about world issues. I am not a keyboard warrior, so I only talk about politics and things on my private account. It's a conscious decision I made for my mental health. The way I try to fight the feeling of despair is to actually take things offline, so I've been finding ways to support causes I care about in local spaces. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  • @jessreadscards

I resonated with a lot of what you're saying! For me, burnout occurs when I try to make my practice look like something it's not and when I'm not following my own needs for the cards or ritual. It starts to feel like a chore at that point. Since I started following my own flow and taking the time to listen to what I need, I have developed a deeper relationship to my practice. For example, it's no longer about using decks that feel aesthetic for the season. While that is fun and all, it doesn't factor in what I need out of my practice. In terms of speaking vocally about the atrocities happening around the world, I chose not to use my platform as a means to be political. It's an escape for me, a place where I can share my own growth and have fun with tarot. In my personal life I show support, I discuss with friends and family, I donate money. Making the choice to not share that on my tarot IG and tarot channel does not mean I'm not being an active supporter in real life or that I'm ignoring it. My actions in my personal life speak for themself, the prayers I recite every day speak for themself, the little money I am able to donate speaks for itself.; I don't need to prove where I stand on this issue on social media so that's why I chose not to post about it often. I think it's ok to have areas of our life where we aren't political, it's a personal choice. This is an impossible global situation and there is no right or wrong way for us to deal with it. To me, whether you chose to show support on social media or in real life or both it's all ok.

I also have admitedly found myself switching over to my tarot IG to "escape" the stuff going on, and honestly its very understandable because consuming so much content showing and discussing awful things is really heavy. I do just want to point out a few things. First i want to say that the people being affected by these atrocities have asked us time and time again to share their stories and keep talking about whats happening on social media. Of course, everyone can do what they want on their platforms and i do very much also respect the work you are doing behind the scenes and agree that its ALL so important and amazing. Sharing some posts on social media is literally the bare minimum, but sadly there are many people who arent even doing that and who are also not participating in any other forms of action. The other thing i want to say is just...wow...how privileged are we that we can turn off our phones, turn to a hobby, turn away from the suffering. I dont think theres anything wrong with that because we do need to take care of ourselves in order to keep fighting. However, we cant forget those who are LIVING these horrors every single day, they dont have anywhere to turn to or any hobby, activity or spiritual practice to escape to. Their belongings, schools, houses, places of worship, pets, family members, friends and own lives are being stolen from them and they have no option to escape. I think it's important to remember and acknowledge that.

@@lucid_moons I agree with everything you’re saying and totally see the privilege we have at this point in time. I’m not denying that at all. I was just sharing a different perspective of why someone would choose not to share on social media about what’s happening in the world. It doesn’t mean I won’t, it’s just how I’m dealing with it now.

Thank you so much for talking about the ongoing g*nocide in Gaza - the ONLY other tarot person I've seen speaking about this is Mari from mariinthesky, the creator of The Gentle Tarot. It has been weighing so heavy, and in my work we have been conflict with upper management about being able to talk about it. I have had a hard time finding an outlet and tarot has been part of the release for me as well as participating in the Uncommitted Movement in the states. Sending you hugs!

Have my heart on what other civilians are going through in the world! We can only do our best. Continue doing the connection with your cards in a positive way. It does matter. The positive we share is good! Thanks for your point of view. You are right. Yes. But we got to keep moving forward. Again thank you for your video. Bless you. Don't be hard on yourself.

Such a wonderful video & fully in agreement with you in regards to current events it’s overwhelming to live through this & I’ve never seen it played out in real time before, I’ve been using tarot on & off since I was 16 & I’m now 45 so a long time & I’ve had various periods away from Tarot with me in heavy periods I need comfort & support & I’ll go to those decks, trying to carry on as I normally would particularly reading for others just isn’t possible & once I eventually realised that I use what I needed & left everything alone trusting that they’ll be ready for me when it’s time, I hope things get easier for you soon 😊. I resonated most with one particular deck in a darker time more recently & it was the Tree Whisper Oracle which is a tree deck not my usual style & not particularly warm & fuzzy just pulled me through by giving me space to sit & breath you might find the deck/s you are called to aren’t obviously warm & fuzzy.

THANK YOU for this. I respect you so much for using your platforms to speak out and address the atrocities happening right now that we are literally witnessing in real time on our screens. Its a very, very traumatic and dark time for many of us and incredibly understandable to feel burnt out, lost, confused and disappointed. The deafening silence of the tarot/spiritual community in the face of a literal g*n0c1de is very disappointing but honestly not that surprising to me. Many "spiritual" people care more about keeping their "good vibes" and "love and light" and maintaining their follower count than actual thousands of kids being unalived. It's gross, shallow and hypocritical BUT luckily there ARE many folks in the community who are doing their part and who arent afraid to speak out and stand up for whats right. I personally dont think that opposing a literal g3n+c1de is some crazy "political" statement in the first place. But whether we like it or not, the personal is political and therefore so is the spiritual. I personally believe we are ALL connected. I cannot separate my spirituality from the struggle for collective liberation for all. If your spirituality is only focused on protecting yourself from "bad vibes" and ignoring the plight of others in need...like...what are you even doing and how is that really spiritual? Anyways, Stephanie, im so sorry for what youre going through with your dad and family. Thats a lot of weight to shoulder on top of everything else horrible happening in the world. Sending love and hoping you take care of yourself 💜

Thank you for this video! Though I'm not putting out content on social media, I can relate to what you say. For Tarot burnout, I find that it is better for me to do less readings, use less decks, not change decks too often, and pull cards only once a week. I can then basically apply this reading every day to every situation, but in reality, I think of it only if needed. Usually I do a whole interpretation on day 1, and reflect every evening, and day 6 I'm "clearing the place", with a break on day 7. But during burn-out times or low motivation times, I just pull the cards, have a quick look what they are, and without reading them, but leaving them out and keeping them in mind. It is low barrier then, because the deck is already chosen, cards shuffled, pulled and suit/number checked, so chance is, if I need card help during the week, my unconscious has already bred over the reading and a useful idea/ insight.... pops up.

We were witnessing horror things in the world for many years and decades and centuries and since humanity existed. Many people in the community just for some reason only now started to become active. I wonder why not before? I wonder why now? I am not saying don’t express your feelings and throughs, but why being selective about only one conflict? For me, I find that social media creates polarization and people don’t learn enough and don’t get into the depth of things. If I want to read politics I go to sources and I go into depth. If I want tarot - I come to tarot community and I dive deep as well on the topic. But when people mixing things up and start bringing political activism into non political forum that makes it too much for me and adds to burn out, not just in tarot but generally in life.

  • @dreaming.willow

And may be that answered your question why it looks like some people in the community stay silent on various political issues. May be they do speak out about it in other safe circles where these topics are discussed in depth. It’s like I will not be bring political items during work meeting when we discuss projects details. Tarot is a hobby and a side interest for some, and people generally don’t like mix things up. Of course it’s your free space to express yourself and I should not be saying what content you should or should not create. But what drew me in, is your tarot content and mainly this is what I come here for - is to connect over common interest.

I know a lot of people that HAVE cared and spoken out about injustices in our world for a long time, and there are many of us who root our practices in social activism and the fight for liberation. It's sad that many people are only now speaking up, but I think what's different now is that we are witnessing what is happening in real time on our screens every time we open social media. It's hard to ignore and go on like everything is normal. It's true that it's impossible for us to stay up to date and speak out about every single awful thing happening in the world at any given time. But I think the current events are awakening many people to many of the injustices out there. I'm glad that so many people are finally finding their voices. Better late than never.
