I've been asked to share the cost and timeline of this project. I will defiantly do that along the way. I made a few more changes to the plan (simplifying) which I'll share in a January 2022 video when I am back on site.

Looks amazing..and I have a pretty good idea of what something like this would cost in the States. Is the renovation cost in Mexico roughly about half - or maybe around 60% of USA cost?

@@lowell62 The price of materials has gone up a lot in the last few years. I'd say now it's about 60-75% of what it would cost to build in the US. (and thanks:).

Love it!! I love seeing the before and the plans for after. It's going to be an amazing house!

I was so lucky to find this house with the stunning tiles in tact. The craftsmanship is incredible. I actually got to go into the factory and see how they are made.

@@janedough5045 Blink of an eye. :) It will be several years before I live in MX full time as well. I downloaded an app (its free) called Countdown. Its pretty fun to see your 5 year plan tick down. (I'm not affiliated by the way).

It has been fun following you on your journey and seeing your renovations and plans. Your current microphone has inferior projection. Whenever your camera person or you move or move away from each other, your narration becomes lost. The architect was easier to hear because she speaks louder than you and she didn't turn away from the videographer, yet she was often hard to hear as well. Possibly, you need to find a wireless lapel microphone. I tried to enhance your volume and sound by going wired with a BOSE speaker and it still did not help much. Your video has been a pleasure to watch and will improve so much when you have adequate sound.

Hi. I know this video audio is horrible. The video is about 2 years old and we were using wireless microphones. I did not realize they were not working until it was too late. I'll reshoot on my next trip.

What fun! I am also building near Merida. We did get a couple existing casitas , but have to build the house from scratch. We are trying to make it look like it was there for a century! We needed some land so we are out in Motul. Is your house in centro? Have fun and share updates. 💕

Hi Carla, thank you. the sale price for the house was 3,800,000 pesos. The closing costs (lawyer fee, fidecomiso..) were about another 200,000 pesos. I have not received the budget yet for the remodel. When I do I'll make another video and share.

I have been binging your videos! Can I ask, how much was it to get the architectural redesign done? Not the actual work but the renderings?

Hi Jenn, The architectural plans and designs can vary so much depending on the project. This includes executive plans (what the builder uses) showing where every outlet goes, lighting design, and plumbing. It can get up to 120,000MXN on the high end.

How did you chose your architect and how did you know they were more cost effective than some others?

Hi Peter, they were a recommendation from my builder. I talked to them about cost before moving forward. I like their work a lot and recommend them. They are called Arkilätt.

I’m hoping to restore an old colonial property in Merida but I am at the very early stages of looking for such a property. I am keen to understand how you selected your contractor. I was thinking your architect might have put you in touch with him.

This is a house I own that I am going to remodel for my personal Residence. I"ve simplified the plans on it a bit (one story casita). The other house that you see in all the videos I love but that one will be for rental income.

I still have my house here in EU that i will be renting out once i come to Mérida. Not sure if i will buy there, the first 2 years renting is on the list.
