This scene broke me and it still breaks me. I came out of that theater crying and clinging onto my mother while my sister (eleven at the time and six years younger than me) laughed at me for being a softy. She was too young to understand what I was feeling right then and there.

Benny Anderson also plays "Our Last Summer" on the piano before the Waterloo number starts. Which was a bit of a targeted song to Harry sung by Sophie (but with the other 2 fathers too) in the first movie. Harry did the Waterloo number with Donna. I swear the easter eggs this 2nd movie had! We need to discover more!

right, I’m thinking “ummm…you’re going to need the baby at the baptismal font.” That said, every time I see this I tear up. “though I don’t possess you, with all my heart, God bless, my love my life” Having lost my mother in 2018 and having grown children, it expresses the depths of love across generations so beautifully. The original ABBA song was a break up song, this remake is so beautiful, both the text and the performances.

I've never felt this strong I am invincible, how could this go wrong? No, here, here's where we belong I see a road ahead I never thought I would dare to tread Like an image passing by, my love, my life In the mirror of your eyes, my love, my life I can see it all so clearly All I love so dearly Images passing by Like reflections of your mind, my love, my life Are the words I try to find, my love, my life But I know I don't possess you With all my heart, God bless you You will be my love and my life You're my one and only I held you close to me Felt your heartbeat and I thought I am free Oh, yes and as one are we In the now and beyond Nothing and no one can break this bond Like an image passing by, my love, my life In the mirror of your eyes, my love, my life I can see it all so clearly All I love so dearly Images passing by Like reflections of your mind, my love, my life Are the words I try to find, my love, my life But I know I don't possess you With all my heart, God bless you You are still my love and my life Yes, I know don't possess you With all my heart, God bless you You are still my love and my life You're my one and only

I am USMC veteran and I cried during this scene. I was a single father for many years. When this movie came out, my now grown daughter was going through some hard times. All I could do was let her know I was there for her. She is in a much better place. I took her to see this movie and this scene got to me. Great movie.

I watched this movie not very long after my precious grandma died and I cried so hard at this scene. About a year later after I watched the movie, I was missing her so much one day and trying hard not to cry when I heard a little voice say, "You don't have to miss me because I'll always be with you." And I believe every word of that.

I haven’t cried watching a movie in a while and I didn’t have high hopes for Mamma Mia 2 since the waterloo seemed so music video type but in this scene I really cried when her mom sang for her and then closed the doors. And it all came slowly together when they showed Sophia’s mom pregnant alone in the island.. this all really made me emotional.

My mum and I lived a very similar life to Donna and Sophie. We watch it every year on a special date, and this came out around the same time we were going to watch it again. We sobbed and held one another’s hand in theatre the whole time. Mother and daughter truly is the most unbreakable bond ❤

This moment reminded me of my mom because of how much Donna loves Sophie is the same amount of love that my mom has for me and it touched me because right now I cannot see my mom due to her being in Florida and me in Virginia but Sophie and Donna are like me and my mom and I love that since Mamma Mia is my mom's favorite movie.
