The Hobbit was one of my first required book assignments when I was in Middle School. I kind of wish I had read Narnia before Lord of the Rings, although the very first fantasy series I remember reading was Ursula KLeGUin's EarthSea Trilogy. I laughed at your water stains comment - yeah I think all readers have a small collection of books with the lower half destroyed from bathtub immersion LOL. I am a former smoker, so I still have a few paperbacks with small burn holes. Thank you for the video.

That’s great they had you read it in school! I don’t think my school ever mentioned Tolkien, though I was homeschooled during middle school so 🤷🏼‍♀️. I have never read the EarthSea Trilogy, but I am currently reading LeGuin’s Catwings series to my preschooler and he loves those. Haha, probably on a very different reading level 😂 And yes, we must commemorate the battle scars of our reading journey! Haha!

Yes they’re so good, definitely favorites at my house! Les Mis is long, but very worth it, and one of my favorite books of all. There are differences between the musical play and the book, and they detract from the book. The book is so delightfully good and better. But I do love the music as well.

@@garlandofbooks4494 I believe it is a condensed version of Les Mis. It was required reading in school in my area

@@lovelydaywithholly that is very interesting. I will say, I’m always suspicious of condensations or abridgments, because often they get rid of the MOST beautiful, redemptive, Christian overtones of the book - BIG pet peeve! Don’t tear the heart out of the darling beloved classic famous books, right?!? So, did it? I know that abridgments of Heidi and Robinson Crusoe are notorious for this. I am verrrry particular about my translation of Heidi - best translator =Helen Dole!
