I wish my iPad could replace my laptop but as a developer it’s almost impossible without an actual desktop OS. But It still comes very much in handy for research tasks.
I just recently did the same thing, got the 12.9” iPad Pro myself, love the magic keyboard and pencil, and it really is awesome for moving around to get ideas and research. It’s great! Something different from sitting at the computer all day too which is nice.
I use my iPad as a single context device too!! I only use it to stream movies and shows :D

Nice - tuns out I’ve recently started using exactly the same process! Loving the readwise / Notion / Command triangle. 😊
I really like to work on my ipad as well. It's easy to take it to a park, sit down, spend time in nature while being creative. I really like your videos and always feel inspired. I wish my channel can also inspire other people to feel more creative and to see beauty all around them. Keep up with the good work. 🙏
Perfect timing on this video! I just got an iPad Air to be kind of a hub for my life and I'm working on setting it up. I don't necessarily have the same needs as you, but I did get some helpful info in regards to the pencil (which I've been trying to decide on) and keyboard case, but mostly the best bit of info is the reminder to leave the social media and email off for deep work and focus. The fact that my email and social media is always so accessible makes getting and staying focused so difficult and one of the reasons I got the tablet was to increase my productivity and create systems for my life, so leaving them off is the best option for me I think. Thanks for this video.
Love your new take on creating content - it makes the viewing experience just 1000x better!!
I love Notion thanks to you Thomas! Thank's for showing us this amazing app, certainly life-changing!!
Another great video and thank you for all of your no fluff videos, packed with tons of useable content.
Amazing video. Thanks so much for making your videos, the content is always amazing, and everything down to the bookmark details are so helpful
Ooh, I'm gonna have to bookmark this and re-watch it again because this seems to be super super handy for research papers and essays to get links and stuff. Thank you very much for mentioning this. I'm writing a list of what apps I should download when my Ipad comes in tomorrow :D
I specifically bought a tablet for all the reading I do for university and it has been such a useful purchase! Especially because I can easily take it with me to class (when that was still a thing ;)) and even work and write on it in between classes if necessary. Best 2020 purchase!
I will definitely experiment with the Readwise & Command combination, it will surely help with my research process which is all over the place! Thanks for sharing, Thomas!
This is incredible, love the master highlighting integration!
This is absolutely amazing, thank you so much for sharing!
I had to remove social media apps from my ipad when i got a 64gb iPad Air to make some room. It was a day and night difference in my work attitude. I eventually upgraded to 256gb iPad Air for future proofed storage, I’m keeping the same work/school focused environment for my ipad. It’s just that much better when it comes to productivity. Secondly, iPad has became such a huge part of my academia/work workflow. I write a ton of equations for zoom presentations and academic research paper annotations. This was near impossible on my computer, but it’s such a breeze on my iPad. It works perfectly with my laptop. I really love what they did with ipad.
The most procrastination thing is watching the videos of how to become more productive and what's on my phone/iPad to become more productive 😂

Just quick tip about distractions and how to stay focused especially in smart devices sometimes if you get distracted with some apps delete them it's not so hard to download them again when you finish your work (other then the fact most of us have a high-speed Internet connection) I use this tactic in long periods and short term whenever I have finals exams or need to focus on some projects
Thank you for sharing the function of integration between command and kindle, readwise and notion. Very useful!!
Installing Command rn. Awesome video, Thomas!
The video has so many great ideas in it, I am surprised how informative this was!
That Notion hack for split screen was gold. Open one on browser and the other on the actual app. 👌👍
How have I not heard about Readwise until now! Downloading as I type this :)
My takeaway here is to uninstall those distracting apps from my iPad and keep them all on my phone rather

Hi Thomas, thanks for this video. Good stuff. I’m a bit of a Luddite and find setting up the integration between apps tricky. Do you have a step by step process guide available on how you have set up your system to be as productive and simple as possible? That would be very helpful. Thanks.
I'm very much a Windows user, but lately I've been considering getting an iPad of some sort, because so many productivity apps and tools only exist in the Apple ecosystem. I can't yet justify the cost to myself, but it's interesting to see how someone uses their iPad with a full process :)

Did you finally get one?
Funny you should mention using the iPad as a productivity only device. One of these day i was working on my pc and had to idea to create other "users" inside my own computer for different tasks. So i have my gaming user, where everything game is installed and on display, i have my university user with my university email and all my books and classes and nothing else, and last i have a user for my own company, where all my company data is mirrowed and if i need to i can work from home. And its funny to observe how your mind just clicks into the task at hand by just login into the correct user. Massive help....hope it helps some of you as well. Cheers!
It's just amazing what's coming in the techno world! wow, thanks for sharing!

Excellent video.
I am also going to the 11” Pro from the 12.9Pro- great for drawing but to heavy for reading.
thank you for sharing
Nice! I am not a tablet user as I am still very much based on my laptop but have been considering branching out to get a PC and maybe a tablet or ipad afterwards.
This guy deserves 10 million. I was looking for a good note taking app for my iPad thanks man
Great video!
My iPad was the best investment I’ve ever made
Its times like this I miss being able to use the big white 90's windows machines for typing and research. And if you've ever written anything on an electronic typewriter there is something so addicting about hearing it clacking away to the rhythm of you fingers. It's almost therapeutic to have something so tactile to channel your thoughts into your fingertips. Modern keyboards really do not give Me that satisfaction.
Chill video
Great video as always, thanks Tom! Does Readwise save only highlights on Kindle, or PDFs too?
There Is some video in this productivity
IPad is the best device to read and learn. No second way around it. Seriously. I wasn’t a big Apple friend but iPad truly elevated my learning efficiency few levels up.
You are the best in the productivity space
I love kindle and will always recommend it for reading but Ill admit I don’t use it for productivity I use it mostly for reading fanfics.
Have you had a chance to use IOS 16 Beta and Stage Manager? Awesome multitasking functionality. Your tip about the Command App just made viewing this video even more worthwhile. BONUS BABY! I'm a big, big iPad user along with Kindle, Readwise, and dump a lot of content from Safari into custom Bookmark Folders for later review. Command will change my workflow.
there is also the surface go tablet/pc. You can make pretty much everything and more, at half of the price
Waiting for this!
Any recomandations on how to improve the execution and quality of one's work?
6:20 In windows when you press ctrl + LMB on a page it will pop out in a new instance of notion, maybe it works on iPad too.
Interesting topic.
Is there anyway you could share with us some of the research sources that you used? That would be amazing!
The way Thomas says 'hello' is just awesome 😂👍
very nice set up! 11in ipad pro way to go!
Thomas, can you create a video explaining how to do the Readwise integration?
Good video, but just funny sometimes to see channels like this put out a video some months ago acting like they have found the definitive way to read and take notes for themselves and hence strongly suggesting it to the viewers, for their whole system to be altered later on. Nice overview of setup in this video, but think it’s just a reminder for everyone not to get too hung up on ways of doing things. Don’t think ‘Thomas Frank reads like this so I should try that’. Instead realise that these ‘productivity’ channel producers are learning all the time too, the same as everyone else.

@Cealondin 👏🏻 I was watching one earlier today, and realised it was an older one by a creator whose productivity app recommendation video I had just watched the other day! Also, workflows are highly personal. I’d rather pay outright for a clipboard app I can park in slide-over, than pay a hundred and fifty bucks for an app subscription that wouldn’t really speed up my efficiency. I’ve deleted so many apps, and use the native apps as much as possible. Less clutter, snappy workflow.
Do you have a video on using notion for the books? I’m brand new to IPad and just got it and I’m going through the bumps and blunders of learning how to incorporate and build a habit out of using it. I just downloaded notion and I use it for a to do list and I use to use kindle a lot but haven’t in a long time but I do like the iPad for reading in portrait mode is pretty nice :) I’m gonna download read wise right after this!
Could you also contact Notion to improve their app on the iPad? Even moving blocks is a pain... 😭

Love you sir
I want to get an iPad - but I don't understand what would be best. This helps a lot.
NICE!
About the 11" keyboard. These [ ], { } keys surely look tiny! I can't believe that this would be convenient for a programmer who needs these keys constantly. What are your experiences with it?
GOOD VIDEO!!!
Great video. I am curious. What do you write every day?
I bought the bluetooth keyboard instead of the cover keyboard. Cheaper and a lot more flexible. Plus a better keypress feeling.
I still do print out papers to read and highlight when i need zero distractions. Then scan them with my phone and save to digital notes. Some of the online resources my university provides don’t allow this or are too large to print - then the ipad comes in handy
