Its lack of Stage Manager or any features fitting its price became the straw that broke the camel's back for me, so I sold it and bought a Fold 5. Using that for a couple of months have made me question every allegiance to Apple and I'm in the ongoing process of essentially leaving the Apple eco system as a result.

Sorry to hear this. Coming from a guy who used to hate everything that Apple ever was, I can sympathize- but the mini6 has been my only experience with them so far and it has been an awesome one. I don't expect such a small tablet to do everything, if I did I'd probably have gone with an 11" iPad Pro, but that's not what I purchased mine for. Android also knows what they're doing though, and their Fold devices are quite nice. I hope you're finding new ways to stay productive with that device!@@Andreasytac

Primarily note taking with GoodNotes. When I work with supervisees (mental health clinicians), I use it with a keyboard to take notes via Pages when I need to capture a lot of information at once since I write slowly. I use it to review annotated PDFs. When I have a hard time processing thoughts or problem solve, I write down my thoughts to piece together info and process information. My wife suspects I have ADHD but whether I do or not, note taking is tremendously helpful.

I used to exclusively use iPad Pros since 2015 but that all changed when I started experiencing shoulder pain from lugging around too much stuff on a daily basis (and the ginormous iPad Pro is part of that problem). And so I picked up a 256GB Cellular iPad Mini 6 last year and absolutely fell in love with it. Powerful and versatile yet small and compact. It’s pretty much unmatched in its form factor. I use mine from dawn till dusk as it’s hard to put down something so light and fun to use!

Since my main work computers are PCs due to Autodesk software, I use both the 12.9 M1 and the iPad Mini as my secondary devices for work. The 12.9 iPad is at desk use while I use the mini for my field work. Marking up drawings on construction sites or getting field conditions with an iPhone and iPad mini have been a great experience. Using Concepts for diagram creation and PDF Expert for large scale drawing mark ups have been critical to my workflow.

I am in the process of transitioning to using iPad Pro as my daily driver for home use. I have a home lab setup to use in my A.I. studies. No monitor for the lab. I can do everything I need with the iPad. Running code-server in the lab gives me a great development environment. The one thing it leaves a lot to be desired is casual reading. This is a great idea, I don’t know why I forgot about the iPad Mini. And now, thanks to your video, I have a great guide for getting started with the mini. Thank you!

I finally started to use iPad mini more because all these new iPads reminded me I should try the devices again. I took it out all day as a handheld for web and KZread. I did notice the “paperlike” product I had was terrible outdoors because the Matte finished really dulled out the colors and made it hard to use the iPad while I am walking around. I ended up removing the film so I can use the iPad mini properly. Will deal with the pen use on glass later. I may start using the mini as a secondary device. I tend to just watch KZread in a browser because I do have big screens at home but I liked having the iPad in front of me just playing something in the background as well. It’s just a basic media consumption machine for me.

You're on a roll with these videos lately! I've been considering an iPad mini, but really want to wait for the next generation (I was very close to buying one this Black Friday). If I can connect it to a monitor and use stage manager, I'd most likely make it my primary/only computer and sell my MacBook. As a tablet, I'd use it one app at a time, but would be nice to have multiple things going connected to a larger screen. I hope this makes it on the next iPad, I'd kind of assume external display and stage manager support will be a default feature for every iPad going forward. I've been trying that Journal app on iOS 17.2 beta. While I like it, I think I'd certainly prefer actually writing something with the Pencil, but I'd still like to keep it digital. Over the last couple months, I've been replacing video games with reading - in fact, I just sold my PS5 yesterday, I don't have the heart to sell either of my Switch's though. Neither my iPhone 14 Pro or MacBook Air are ideal for reading, they work, but not the best. My old 12.9" iPad Pro was too large.

For me, I’m mostly a Mac guy. I do everything work related on my MacBook so having an 11 inch iPad Pro was a bit pointless, I had always intended to use it but failed to actually use it. It was always too heavy to take with me along with my MacBook and not useful enough on its own. I then picked up a Mini as it was really light and compact and it has become the perfect device to bridge between my phone and laptop. I mostly use it as a productivity tool, I manage my calendar and todos. I use it for journaling and reading, content consumption. It’s perfect for all the things I can do on my phone but is more enjoyable on a larger screen.

Big fan of the iPad mini, I actually use it a lot more than my iPad Pro 12.9. But like you I use them very differently. My iPad mini is my every day carry device to primarily take notes on and consume content. and my Pro is used for when I need to do any creative or design work on a larger screen. I want to try to move editing to the Pro but I'm too afraid of it slowing down my editing process from my Mac version of Final Cut. Also hope that the mini gets an M series chip soon!

It’s been a a few years since I’ve tried GeForce Now - and holy cow it’s a totally passable experience….this is on top it this being my favorite form favorite for a tablet full stop. My Mini 5 went to my little sister for college a few years back so I’m so glad to have this sort of device again.I’m actually heading back to the Apple Store to return my 256gb WiFi and seeing what 5G models they have….im all in.

I use the mini to read articles and news through various apps. I’m still trying to get comfortable writing with the Apple Pencil, which I got when I bought my 12.9” iPad Pro. I haven’t really liked the writing experience on either device, but I hope the mini will be better over time. I really like my mini, but the TouchID is ridiculously bad - at least on my unit. I’ve reprogrammed various fingerprints a couple of times. They “stick” for maybe a day and then aren’t recognized - if they add FaceID to the next version, I’ll be first in line to trade it in since the faulty TouchID has nearly cost me the Mini several times when I’ve barely restrained myself from throwing it across the room.

I use my iPad mini 6 as part of an EDC. I don't go anywhere without it. iPadOS has gotten really good over the past few years, enough were in a pinch, I can work remotely (and I do IT) and with the available apps, I can do 90% of my job from anywhere. I also use the Apple Books app for reading almost daily and it's great for content consumption. I have no need for stage manager. 2 apps is plenty on that small screen. Apple, if your reading comments, give me an OLED screen ( a touch larger ), 512GB of Storage and a new processor and I'll bite again.

KZread is at the top 1/3rd of the screen, and it’s relaxing. The Mini, if I let it rest on my stomach, it would not be good for much. I would have to hold it up in the air. Less relaxing.

I travel the world with my mini, but it doesn’t do EVERYTHING. So perhaps we drop the whole form factor thing and talk about software specific devices like QuickBooks which never does well on a mini.

I am thinking of getting an iPad mini. I have recently purchased the IPad Pro 12.9 and kept my iPad Pro 11 inch. I am currently using my pad pro 12.9 for my main computer and the other iPad Pro as my screen for virtual sessions. I am social worker who also works from home. Instead of using my iPhone for my virtual sessions I use the iPad Pro 11 inch. I was thinking of using a iPad mini for writing my session notes. Do you think that too many iPads? Thank you in advance.
