Since the jump gate is a natural phenomenon i don't think there should be anything that physical stops you from jumping instead i feel like it should be a crime, to be a "jump runner" like nothing is stopping you from jumping but if you run through the jump gate without getting clearance from ATC you get a crime charge placed on your head, kinda like jumping the border of a country
@contentthunder

ya thats what i think, maybe if it is a jump point that uses the gate to be more stable then trying to run it means you have to use the unstable natural jump point since the gate crew isnt gonna turn on the stabilizer for a crim

Jump Points are natural. Jump Gates are artificial structures around them.

Agreed. If you can "touch" the JP you should be free and clear. (Same way it works IRL going from extradition to non-extradition territory). ATC should just be there to scan you and _ATTEMPT_ to keep criminals/contraband out (or in?); but if activate the jump, you should be free and clear (until you get back). Those same scans should pick you up on your return and blast you. If you've got a high enough CS you shouldn't even make it there past the surrounding security until they make smuggling/anti-scan shielding a thing (if they make it a thing)

@@randomuserameno, technically all quantum drives are capable of jumping, but not without modifications. That's exactly what the jump drive is, a safe modification. Maybe we should be able to "damage" our drives into the mod, but Lorewise theres a large chance of you dying or disappearing forever.
Absolute legend. When you brought up the note pad I knew it was going to be a good vid!
5:57 We may not be there yet but I feel like we may have just crossed one of the most important hurdles this game has had since the PU was created.and we left the hangar for the first time.
i imagine the jump tunnel being a tree trunk where you enter the jumppoint at the root/gate to travel through it and over time you see branching paths going off in the tunnel leading to i.e. 30 different exit points. maybe if its a "stable big jump tunnel" you have a main gate on each side.. and several smaller branches off the main tunnel. maybe while travelling through a jump tunnel you get junction branch warnings... "left/right"... maybe you fly a bigger ship and it sais "left(dangerous)/right" where the left branch would be too small for your ship and you in danger to take damage going that path. and in pyros each branch has its own "exit point" maybe 10km away from eachother or so.... that way peopel would take different paths and are less likely to "crash into eachother exiting the tunnel at the same spot". maybe around halfway through the tunnel the game already setup the endpoint for your jump depending on what branches you took... and all other branches you can take in the last half are basically damage avoidance related. so that way scanner ships in pyros can "notice branch ends opening"... i.e. for pirates to fly to one exit and harrass whoever comes out then. maybe a scanner ship can "scan for the nearest exit branch" and when the scanner ship notices a ship flying through nearby branches it can give a QD ship i.e. mantis the branch coords to send a special pulse out that changes the exit point to the one close to the scanner ship... that way pirates can intercept people coming out branch exits. or scanner ships might detect more "hidden branch junctions" while travveling inside a jump tunnel that lead further away from the main jump branch exit points. so maybe you get a junction "left/right/ hidden down" where the down option is just avaiable with scanner ships. i guess if you fly through in a party you can see what path your party members took... so if your scanner partymember flys in first and they go the hidden down path the othe rpartymembers get notified it exists and see they went that way. so party members can fly through the same paths and exit at the same spot that way. and if criminals cant fly in the police controlled jumpgates... maybe there can be "root points" around the jump gate... basically the opposite of branch exits.. where some points in space near a jumpgate are instable and when you enter through them you get pulled to the main jump tunnel. and these unstable entry points would change every 30/60 min or so... so scanner ships can scan for such entry points around jumpgates and sell the info on the market when that point opens up next. i.e. in 2h30 this point opens up. and criminals could also buy such info i.e. on grim hex to sneak through such entry points to pyros if they cant use the main jump gate. or cargo ships could purchase "unstable shortcut" paths that scanner ships find... maybe the normal cargo route is through 4 systems, but there shortcuts leading from system 2 to 4 that just opens up at a random point out of 10 possible root points every 3h for 30 minutes that you can buy the info for. like little unstable jump branches where no jumpgate is worth building at for the factions.
Thanx for sharing so quickly Mike . Most of the comments show how much this means to SC. A basic test of does it work and mist are already building the rest of the game around it :)
They talked about jump point having multiple smaller entrances and multiple exits if you go through offshoots inside the tunnel. Maybe that's still planned and will be integrated later on

I agree jumping through is a weird process not totally straight forward, it took me about an hour to figure out, tried different ships etc… anyway, it’s super nice to be able to escape stanton and go somewhere else. The change of server is flawless, so great news for the future even if there is still some work ahead like better interface and maybe some cleanup/defense at the entries/exits of the jumps. But despite the original frustration of waiting to figure out how to go through, very happy!

I like the idea of you contact the Air Traffic Control and they realize that there's a criminal aboard and we'll tell you that you can't enter and start firing guns at you to try to stop you, however it's not like they can control a natural phenomenon or just turn it off so you have to fight your way to the portal as a criminal trying to escape the star system
Didn't they mention that the jump gate was wondering and at the official jump spot the gate stabilizes the worm hole in a single spot. So criminals could go through the gate at other places near the official one but risk an unstable jump.
Great info, you are the only person to do a step by step and a detailed look at jumping. Thank you
5:10 "Size doesn't matter". Thanks for the confidence boost. You're the best.
Thanks for making this! I was dying to know how it was going. This little evocati patch is the most important release since Port Olisar.
I'd assume, to restrict criminal movement, and assuming from real-world equivalencies, that there'd basically be UEE navy stationed at the controlled jump points that would scan before entering the jump point. I'm not sure if it's still their plan to have multiple jump points, but iirc that was how they were gonna let criminals through. Since there was only 1 possible jump gate, for this test and foreseeable future, between each system, I doubt they'd do something like that. Maybe just an auto scan thing, similar to Coms Array, which someone can disable to allow for criminals/smuggling jump point usage. I hope that the UEE controlled jump points would at least have some UEE ships patrolling/guarding on full implementation much later
Regarding criminals not being able to jump: It would be amazing if they finally gave a proper use to those fancy "shielded storage areas" in the Freelancer and Taurus and other ships. If a criminal is specifically in there, you can jump.
Thanks for updating us on how the test went!
Thanks for getting the info out quickly man. This is great news!
At the moment it is an interactive server selector (for our eyes), the instances between them do not communicate or persist groups, missions, cargo, beacons, group markers, etc... I suppose that all this type of information must be transferred to another isolated service or cache or layer or whatever you want to call it so that the player always receives that data regardless of the server they are on. Until then, it's just an interactive server selector. This was the job of the replication layer if I'm not mistaken. They have a lot of work ahead of them until that they do it correctly and that in our eyes they behave as a single server. I guess now they will have to enable or feed the replication layer with all kinds of information that needs to be shared with the player between different servers as well as between server and server information about locations, object storage, etc, etc... It is scary to imagine the size that these databases will reach over time... I hope that this step happens soon™ and we can start to have the gameplay and the type of game that we have been waiting for 12 years and they promised us.
Thanks for the update! This is such a monumental update and I’m so excited to be able to go through a jump gate
In regards to crime stats I think legal gates should definitely bar access for the proper gate. On the illegal side of gates however they've rigged it so you can travel back BUT you'll end up somewhere randomly in the jumpgate cloud. Untamed temporary gates can also open in the cloud that don't require ATC to use but are far more dangerous to do so and take longer. This adds a bit of exploration gameplay to chart temporary jump points.
That's amazing. Imagine how the devs at CIG feel. This is a hell of a step forward.
Would be nice to eventually use the scanning/science ships to scan for hidden wormholes as shortcuts when you have a crimestat and can't access legal means. Then pirates/smugglers can trade that data, maybe have it cycle every week or something. Probably a long time before anything like that is possible but a neat thought.
Thank you for putting things in perspective there at the end. This news makes SC feel more real than ever
I was attending a wedding the next day and away from home when this test went live, but always prepared I was able to log in for a couple of hours onto server 050 as well a little later than others. I took the opportunity to live the moment I have dreamed about for years: pulled my Carrack Expedition, stuck on her 2950 BIS paint to look her best, and headed from A18 to the jump point. Jank aside, it worked seamlessly and I flew onward into Pyro with the chat changing accordingly, I even followed someone else through and they also jumped shards same time as me near enough. Just breathtaking to experience a moment like that. It’s historic in Star Citizen terms, I finally got to take the Carrack through to Pyro. Soon it’ll be a reality for us all ❤
Thanks for the update! Exciting times!!
LETS GOOOOOO! Glad you finally got to experience this after so long
I agree; it wouldn't make since for criminals to not be able use the gate if they can make it to the entrance, it's isn't like it's man-made; it's a singularity in space time, it's not gonna pick and choose who passes through it. Now; I can understand the area around jump gates being policed by UEE, as an attempt to try to stop criminals.

@@Turican76That's not a loading screen, you can get out of your seat and do shit while jumping, much like QT travel, also, will require actual piloting through the wormhole, it won't be just a cutscene.
I think it should be possible for a criminal to jump through to pyro by not contacting ATC and just going through, but it should add a T3 crimestat to them. Now if a criminal comes into Stanton they should be stopped by patrol ships. I hope the Stanton side of the gate has a small armada of gate guards eventually
As for criminals jumping through jump gates - This seems like a prime opportunity for smuggling and hacking gameplay! Contracting with a ship captain to sneak you through a security-controlled jumpgate could be just another thing you have to do as a criminal, if things are too hot for you in your current system. There's also the possibility of hacking attempts being used to allow criminals to jump their ships through an otherwise security-enabled gate. There's lots of creative ways they could make this an interesting gameplay loop unto itself.
Replication layer check Static server meshing check Pyro check looks like everything that CiG needs for 4.0 to launch has been proven working in some shape in a game build. Now all they need is to polish everything and 2024 will be Star Citizen's biggest year!
Thanks for jumping on so quickly and letting us know... very exciting

The thing with a crime stat if they are in the MSR shielded cargo area they could be smuggled through. Lots of fun possibilities. Good stuff Mike thanks for sharing!
I'm so excited man, this is massive!!! Obviously there's still a very long way to go and many issues to fix, but we have actual players jumping one from one star system to another AND basic server meshing facilitating it; this genuinely might the start of SC actually becoming a real game.
Finally some progress! Thx for the good news :) As you said, some minor things to adjust but the main functionality is there !
Good stuff dude! I'd love for the Jump gates to be wide open and naturally occurring. No need for clearance from ATC, or at least you could attempt to slip by with some other methods or tactics.
@ulvemann43

IIRC, the plan is for them to be like that. You need a drive to calibrate to them, but the ATC clearance is more or less the "legal" way to do it.
So close to your full time streamer cakeday, this must feel incredibly relieving. I am happy for you and hope you spend a great day with your loved ones.
This is unbelievably exciting.
Thanks Mike, great news. Glad you were one of the first 🎉
Wormholes don’t discriminate. I think if they want to do something with criminals, maybe there’s a way they can sense who’s onboard and pre-call the advocacy, to be waiting on the other side?
Wow! That's a ton of great news in one post! Very exciting 😀
Awesome, good findings and excellent relaying as always. Excited to test with you in Evo soon
An epic night of testing, I tried the MSR and Reclaimer stability was a lot better than I expected, collisions are an issue on exit and heard their were some issues with upgraded jump drives not spooling but really impressive. Hopium Level is fully recharged cant wait to see this in live.
This went SUPER well. Was great to take part!!
Wow what a huge moment, super exciting
i have a feeling a lot of things are turned off as they only wanted to test the jumpgate. Maybe they will slowly turn things on as each test happens
Reputation is getting its update soon(ish) and I'm curious how that'll affect jump gates eventually. Obviously there should be some way for lesser criminals/unlawful characters to use jump gates, depending on the lawfulness of the system you're in and the system you're going to, but you might get blocked from using most of them when you're an extremely wanted criminal
This is so fucking awesome! We definitely have come a long way. Whatever criticisms we have of cig and how they develop, they pulled off something really special here and seeing your reaction after having your frustrations with the project lets me know that this whole thing has been worth it. I remember seeing you have some doubts about SC and SQ42, but you always had hope because you knew how special this game was and is, I knew you'd never abandoned this, not mention for the financial commitment we all make lol. Now I predict that once server meshing gets rolling and all the other core tech is introduced this game is going to explode with more systems and new missions; interactive environments that immerse the players with advanced AI, whether that be quanta based AI or alien fauna. I always had faith in the project but also shared frustrations with some things like hyping ships that are ridiculous at every Invictus or fleet week. Its not a perfect system I mean its still a business but I always believed the focus was to make something that has never been done and its a difficult challenge that required tech like mighty bridge, building blocks, server meshing, replication and PES. Then of course the other challenges that come with making a full campaign with an original story and unique gameplay. I really believe that this game will shift the industry fundamentally in the lessons learned from its development, but still all the pieces have yet to fall into place.
That's amazing content Mike. Clear, concise and interesting
This was such an experience! I also had a reason to use my SRV: the dead ships at the far end are a collision hazard. Also recovered a soft-deathed 600i crew. PROGRESS!!!

It was a 600i. Too much mass for a single SRV to jump with. I think that's a recent change. I've jumped with a HH when it first came out.
i think they will change the crime stat jump gate thing so that you need to find something like a tair in the jump point path so you will probably need to follow a few nav points to find it but its probably to much to ask right off the bat
[QUESTION] Did you bust?
Criminal smuggling would be cool. Or some other ‘comm-array” type thing or prerequisite where someone with a CS can get through. Maybe an NPC that sells coordinates to a hitchhike point or a shielded pod that can hide someone’s reading. A whole vessel of criminals could just bust their way through by taking out whatever restrictions
Just the fact that this worked, with all the prescribed tech, and not just a staged demo..... Even if it was in Evo, that this is real, and really possible.... Always has so much potential and now the beginning of it manifesting to something real finally exists. The little deals of this or that not working is fine, those things can be sorted out over time. But HOT DAM! so glad to hear this! This doesn't feel so far away now, even if we have years go to, doesn't matter, it makes that wait to 1.0 feel so much easier now.
The way I understand the lore, jump points are naturally occurring phenomena that only need a jump drive to use. ATC might tell you you're prohibited from using it, but they can't deactivate the thing. Kind of like speeding over a red light. Yes, it's illegal, but who is going to stop you?
I feel you Bro! It feels like its coming together!
I can see it now, chaos at the jump gates from multiple ships jumping in rapid succession and crashing into other ships/wreckage on the other side.
Thank you for sharing. Such a cool moment.
Thanks for this super late night video from you =D You look so happy too :D
Perhaps they can do something similar as in the game freelancer, you have jump gates and then jump holes which are natural occurring anomalies, and maybe people with crime state can go through a jump gate but the anomalies are not monitored , this would go the same for people transporting illegal commodities.
Love that you get to talk to us about this.
Huge moment for SC and congrats Mike for being one of the few pioneers.
Thanks for sharing Mike, some org mates went through this morning as well. Exciting times.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing! 🚀
I've been saying for a while now that a functional jump point is the feature threshold where I would want to start actually playing Star Citizen regularly. Hopefully the next patch is more stable than usual (I still think Star Citizen should have a "stable" channel that only gets patched once a year).
Appreciate the info and perception.
Great update and I am excited as well.. it is finally happening!!!!!
Awesome test, thanks for the info!
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Dang, with what you said regarding CS and the jump gate, I think it would be interesting to see if there would be a legit smuggling gameplay, as part of the rep mission for the unlawful gangs/orgs. Those with CS can maybe commission a smuggling request just like a beacon mission and assign them to appropriate member with sufficient reps. That might be cool.
Jump gates working have been a long long time coming to finally let us have more than one solar system. With that said, the part that will finally relegate 'server problems' to being a thing of the past is the meshing within solar systems so the load can be split to allow both more players per solar system AND to sustain higher framerates so stuff reliably works even as the population scales. If this makes it to live without serious problems, and if the progress continues at this rate then 2024 is shaping up to finally be a good year for delivery of 'the tech' we've been waiting for this past several years.
Thanks for the info Mike
I think a system with authorities and a controlled jump point should def have a crimestat check. It doesn't make sense otherwise.
Not gonna lie; I'm really enjoying this new freedom evo testers have to talk about the testing without consequence.
Heh, we can say a lot of things about Star Citizen and CIG. Criticisms, many and most are deserved. But this thing worked. It was raw and it was ugly but it freaking worked. Huzzah CIG! I went between Pyro and Stanton now a bunch of times. Also, on the 'criminal jumper' thing - it looked like being able to make an illegal jump will be possible. You may have to get a non-criminal to initiate the JP but then you can place your ship in the gate when it opens and take their spot. I saw that a bunch but no one got a CS for doing it.
thanks for this info so good now you can talk about evo
Hmm.. I figured the jump gate was a bit of a mini game. While you fly through to the next system, it would load in the background.
I didn't expect anything new when hearing about the second evo test for server meshing. But jump point testing was a nice surprise and is (on paper) a huge leap into the right direction I wouldn't be surprised if we see some eptu testing for 3.23 with static meshing enabled. Maybe even this very basic version of jumping between systems.
It’s nice to see you smiling and excited mate 🎉

How long have we waited for this moment.
i consider a Jump Point a force of nature. Once it's open, if you're a criminal, you should be able to seize the opportunity to get through it while it's open. Kinda like some1 that tries to ride your ass and skip a Toll fee on the Highway. Also if ATC is checking the pilot and scanning crimestat, then if u have a crimestat, the gate shouldn't open. But if you're a passenger on board with a crimestat there should be a way to hid yourself/fake id it. That's assuming their scanning your ship thoroughly. I like the idea tho that once the gate is open, aas a force of nature, if your an opportune player in the area with a stat that you could maybe do a short-burst QT into itt if you time it right. I'm so giddy dude, from one Mike to another, this is a MASSIVE moment. 12+ years in the making (sheesh)
Thank you for the exciting news!
i did it, for me was seamless so was if this system always exited all this time, like "normal" just passing throw.
finally. actual progress on the road to pyro.
It's happening!
I just did too, an amazing experience. Didn’t expect it this year. But they did it.
If they change a single character in the code for this game. You will hear about it from this guy. A whole damn video.
You just know that PVP pirates will be marking the exit location and farming people jumping in. I can see a mantis and some other ships just ganking players traveling to pyro. They should probably have unstable worm holes that take you to another system but the entry point is random to prevent extreme levels of griefing. It's gonna be like that scene in the Star Trek reboot where they jump into a ship graveyard being attacked by the romulans otherwise. 😂
@hawkzulu5671
4 ай бұрын
We wont jump through and land at a 'gate' on the other side.. there will be a wide area u can possibly land in and if there were 20 mantis already set up with QED bubbles - the odds of you landing even in their radar range, much less bubble range will be slim
Well, that went well, now they just need to tie missions to the RL and your database profile. They can simply make the amount of accepted missions limited. They then check when you login and renew the tracked mission. Still the meshing has a lot of work still. Restrictions should be put on the gate on Stanton, but allow you to force jump.
Cool. Thanks for sharing
Can’t wait!
As per the criminals jumping the gates, I would expect there would be some way to bribe ATC, or buy a fake, single time use mobiglass that has been hacked/altered to present a fake identity so they can pass. Otherwise it would be extremely limiting, even if I am a lawful player and would probably go wherever I want.
I'm primarily a lawful player and even I think barring criminals access just doesn't feel right. Maybe it's like customs where a certain percentage of people get searched? Maybe there's something you can do to get a fake ID or to temporarily hack the system instead of having to wage all-out war on Kareah.
“Size doesn’t matter “. Been telling myself that one for years 😒
Thanks for the video. So, no ship scan as of yet before a player ship jumps. Maybe there might be a Bounty Hunter mission to scan ships as they come through, Or the Police will and apply tags to your ship & crew, for either smuggling a known criminal or if there is a stowaway? Still must be nice to slide through system gates. Do you think it will be soon for the rest of us?
