For the cape: try making a form with chicken wire, then draping fabric over it. Spray the fabric with some sort of hardener (pva glue?) and when it dries it should theoretically be a lightweight piece of material shaped how you need.

That sounds wonderful! Makes you wonder tho if you should just use a light wiremesh painted close to cape color and just have it under cape and just shaped to desire?

I do love the idea of solving a problem more easily and it gives you actual fabric that has its own realistic look. But when even the base has its own 3D printed part to cover that stand. I think it would be a shame not to go 3D print for the whole thing including the cape. I have a Loki model I printed with a massive cape and how they solved the print being too thin was to just taper the edges so from a casual view it looks thin but its actually quite thick over most of the cape making it very strong. A whole other thing asking if that remains true at life size. I'm not smart enough with zero experience printing that large to say.

Paint for sure. Grab some metal meshing from home Depot, the type that is used for chicken pens or thinner for cement pours. Bend it the way the cape would look then sew material (or glue) over the wire mesh. Also, maybe some mortise and tenons joins with a wedge would be very strong and easy to remove. (Hide the wedge behind and conceal it)

Amazing job!!! My amateur suggestion is to finish it and when designing cape, try to balance its weight’s center of gravity so that you don’t have to modify this beautiful stand. Maybe when printing large statues, it should help, if you print lower parts with full infill to make them heavier. Does that make any sense?

I don´t know how will translate to that masive scale, but what i do with capes in my 3d prints (1/6 and 1/4 scale) is use a thin EVA foam sheet, cut it in the shape of the cape and heat it with a heat gun, while still hot, i pose the cape in a dynamic shape i want. When the EVA sheet colds, the cape remains it the form is made. Then you can paint it and seal it if you want.

What a monster of a print!! Nice work dude, If you are going to paint it (even just grey) I strongly suggest you have a play with "duratec grey surface primer", It can be brushed on, rolled on, or sprayed if its thinned down, BUT, the main reason I suggest you use it is because it is AMAZING for sanding, super consistent, easy to sand, and can even be pollished once you have finished sanding. I use it for boats, car parts, props, armor, even weapon masters. Lastly you can add filling powder to it, you could probably use baby powder, but typically you would buy "Q-cell" or and sanding/fairing filler powder. This would allow you to do some really nice thick coats in areas like joins, cracks, or even just really nasty print layers. The stuff smells pretty strongly of fibreglass, this is its only draw back, but once its cured I promise you, you wont want to use anything else ;)

I do think it would be a crime if you didn't paint it. Not a color accurate paint job because I think at this scale it would bad unless you were doing high end air brushing. But a basic primer that'll smooth it all out nicely and then a single color paint job. You wouldn't even need to do a dark wash to make the details pop as remember the wash is recreating shadows that would appear at 1:1 scale. And as this is 1:1 scale it creates its own real physically accurate shadows. So you just need to do the basic one color stone grey and boom, that's a finished stone looking statue that would wow anyone. I have to say that's an amazing achievement. Its a bit of a wake up call to us all dreaming of larger prints just how difficult it is once you start getting beyond 1/6th scale which is so nice and easy to do on any machine. Quarter scale I think is really hard and expensive. So half or crazy, 1:1! that's just madness and I tip my hat to anyone that takes that on.

  • @chrishechtl8330

That is insane! I would recommend wrapping the pole in cotton, maybe with bits of silver in a spiral around it and around him like he's got metal bits to use as ammo and as a shield. If you added LEDS to it it would look cool too. (though it might look like a big fart lol) He could have bits of metal shooting off along the extended hand too! The cotton could cover some of the jenky bits on the base that you aren't happy with. You could add LEDS under his boots to give him a glow effect there as well. I'd definitely finish it. And the chicken wire cape sounds good. Be careful with the magnets, you would do well to either embed them into the parts as you print them or use a lot of epoxy and supports around them. (they can deform the plastic) I can't wait to see the next step!

Finish it, you've come this far. cape would be fairly easy with thin gauge hex chicken wire from tractor supply, sandwhich it between two sheets of thick fabric, either super77 the edges or actually sew it. bend to a dynamic shape. My printer is way to small to even attempt a project of this size, id have to chunk mine like x5 smaller and that sounds like a nightmare.
