@@freshbeans except the fact that the mouthpiece of the clarinet is not even close to the oboe.... oboe is a double reed that requires you to pull your lips in and be like a reverse duck lip where clarinet lets your teeth rest on the mouthpiece while only curling your bottom lip in. it causes a lot of issues when you're used to playing a double reed and switch to a single reed... as an oboist... no it doesn't lol

It is far easier to go from clarinet to oboe than the other way around...just remember that you have to keep your embouchure so that both your top and bottom lips are held balanced (and covering teeth) by your jaw and mouth muscles. And keep your tongue under the reed (so it doesn't get pinched).

He learned the clarinet last year in beginner band and then made it to first chair symphonic this year- over all of the eighth graders who have played for three years instead of two. The band director asked if he could play the oboe for the oboe solo in Shenandoah (is that how you spell it?) in American River Songs. My friend learned it quick too. He had to of course though, cuz we’re playing American River Songs for MPA, and he only started learning oboe a little bit into the school year. Still really cool though :D
