Go to Malang for an authentic local experience...you can go to mountains as well as beaches in the south of Malang... barely any foreigners

Yes, the prices are higher than other parts of Bali but it can be affordable if you eat local food, not have your single origin coffee everyday and partying at beach clubs.

Reasonable price for a nice resort like hotel but i still prefer a hotel with direct access to the beach.

Good advice, its played out. Check out Siargao, Philippines. It has its own problems but way more authentic.

I agree.....Canngu is becoming the new Kuta...overbuilt...loud, awful beach clubs....it has lost the charm of Bali.

Bali is a tourist trap, the last thing i'd want to see is lots of western tourists i'd never go there.

And no one in Bali will stop you to continue exploring it's 17,507 other sibling islands. People make canggu as their base, nothing wrong with that, you'll find some of them going to Mentawais for surf trip, to Lombok for hike, to Raja ampat or triton bay for diving, some not. So yeah, there's tons of empty places you can reach from Bali, btw not many places in this region you could find surfing waves as good and consistent as those in Bali tho, except few other places in other less developed Indo islands, so that's one reason for you.

Canggu is overrated..
