My Honda Civic Has NEVER Looked this Good...Until Now | Part 3 (Polish & Coating)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Who say's you can't polish a turd? In this Finale of the Honda Civic Detail Series, I show you how I professionally polish paint and install a long-term Ceramic Coating. The goal is to remove swirl marks and reveal as much hidden gloss as possible. The coating is the icing on the cake to lock it all in! Ready, set, GO!
A shiny, wet looking car finish doesn't happen from one product. It's a combination of many steps in the detailing process to refine paint and essentially jewel out the finish. I made this Honda Civic Detailing series so you can see the process involved and what it takes to really make a car shine. There's PLENTY of amazing detailing videos on KZread, but this is my take, with my own car. I want to show you how machine polishing really isn't so scary and how installing a ceramic coating is much easier than it sounds. The result? A high gloss and protected finish for YEARS to come.
If you haven't gone back and watched Part 1 or Part 2 of this detailing series, I HIGHLY recommend it! That way, you can see the products I chose and why I chose them. Part 2 is an in-depth video on the preparation involved for everything you see in this video. I understand this kind of stuff may be boring to some, but THIS is how a car can look its best. SO many people think they need a new paint job at the first sight of scratches and swirls, but that stuff is often fixed through the magic of detailing. Fortunately, I have tried to maintain this paint over the years with good products to avoid doing more damage than I can remove. With that said, my paint isn't perfect and will never be perfect without a full respray. i'm just making the most of what I have.
Machine polishing begins with a variety of pads, possibly machines, a good compound/polish, and quality towels. The idea is to let the machine do the work in removing the swirls and scratches. i barely apply any pressure to the machine to get the result I'm looking for. After several passes, always make sure to wipe away product with a QUALITY towel. The Rag Company makes some amazing towels for this purpose. Once you've got your desired finish, a prep or alcohol spray must be applied to remove any polishing oils and to get the ceramic coating to stick. From there, applying the ceramic coating is easy, but don't bite off more than you can chew. Work in small sections and do not do more than one panel at a time. Gtechniq CSL and Exo were my choice for this job and I find them extremely easy to work with.
There is a TON of information in this series and I hope it helps many of you polish a turd in your future. Any questions, just let me know in the comments!

Nothing better than a spot free car chillin in the garage. Gonna put my Focus ST in storage and probably do the same thing as your doing, should look like new come spring. You recommend keeping the car on jack stands like that for a couple of months? Gonna be doing RS brembos, wheels and tires. Touch up all the rock chips and get my bumper repaired along with a new aggressive rear valance and polish my tomei exhaust.
