Hi, I know you posted this a long time ago, but I wanted to show you some love and commend your bravery. My uncle has had AIDS since the 90s. He nearly died of pneumonia and that's how we found out. He was rather young then, but went on to get successful treatment, get married, and have beautiful twin daughters. His wife and children do not carry the virus. 30 years later, he's in great health, and actually survived his sibling (my mom) who did not have the illness. You are so much more than a diagnosis and it does not define you. May you have a long, healthy, and most importantly HAPPY life ❤

My Best Friend got HIV in 94. We went through studies and he was on drug cocktails and people in his family were afraid of him which was heartbreaking. You were not born yet. Thanks for sharing. I was born with HIV in 92. My mom got infected by dad. She didn’t know she had it until I was born. In Africa, there was no way of knowing about the disease till after a child was born. Although there’s still a lot of stigma, the disease shouldn’t define who we are.

I'm a veteran: one of the very few to survive when I was diagnosed in 84. I can't even begin to tell you about how it was from the carnage, to the rejection, projection and of course stigmatisation. I However even in the dark years I found love. I was kind of the male version of you, so it wasn't a problem finding partners who were attracted. But now when I look back I realise that the ones who still wanted to be with me when I told them, passed a test that is rarely presented to most couples. You knew they really loved you! And on the flip side, you realised you weren't as much loved by some people, from whom you expected unconditional love. So what I'm saying is that you have a secret tool in your box when it comes to choosing the right partner and people in your life: you find out pretty quickly who the good ones are. Lots of love to you. You will be fine and in your lifetime, I would imagine they will find the cure.

I’ve only seen stuff about HIV growing up on tv, but this was early 2000s, it seemed tough back then. So glad to see there are advancements in medicine to give people that have HIV a higher quality of life. I’m sure there will be more advancements in the future, hopefully a cure. Maybe he has to talk to his doctor to have those changed, since every individual is unique they may have different reactions. There are other medications for the same thing and maybe among those he can find one that works better for him.

Thank you for sharing your story. My ex boyfriend was diagnosed with AIDS (his CD4 count was down to 25) while we were dating. He didn’t even know he was sick until he ended up in the hospital with PCP pneumonia. By the grace of God I wasn’t infected. Thankfully he’s been able to get himself to be undetectable now, but still suffers with a lot of health problems because he was so sick. I wish people would become more educated about how far treatments have come now - especially with not being able to transmit it now even without contraceptives. Thanks for sharing that detail.

Not only condoms but go beyond and tell whoever your going to be with to as well as yourself show paperwork on your status health wise stds hiv hepatitis etc. Also you can catch hiv through breastmilk I recently was with a woman who may or may not have giving me hiv through her breast milk she was lactating got some in my mouth now I have swollen tonsil and headache no fever rash flu like symptoms it's been 4 weeks I'm really scared I pray to god he can help me

@@Mylife-yd9xq The chances of you acquiring HIV from getting a small amount of breast milk in your mouth is almost nonexistent.

I just want to say you are so strong. I have had a hiv scare and it was one of the most traumatizing experience. Once I had that scare I have a whole new perspective on stds and Sti’s even tho I never acc had it I just convinced my self I had it after being r worded. Now I look at stuff like that and realize it could happen to anyone and whether u intend to sleep around it’s no one deserves to experience to fear and anxiety and trauma of being diagnosed or feeling like u could have it. That taught me a huge lesson to never judge anyone or stigmatize anyone ever again. And the fact that u have it and u are educating others and ur so brave to make a video like this is truly inspiring. I’m heartbroken for u that u ever had to go any sort of physical health or mental health journey like this. I wish I could have come across ur video during the time of the scare u it would have soothed me a lot as my mind was over thinking a whole bunch❤️❤️ u are amazing and beautiful I hope u know that. I just got a positive diagnosis this afternoon...literally feel like my heart got ripped out of my chest and the scariest part is yet to come as I have to tell my wife and just hope she doesn't leave me. I have to admit I was part of the stigma crew and now it's all come back around and I'm trying to find other people that have been where I am right now. It's currently 2am and I am so wide awake, thoughts swirling around, having all the stages of grief in 10min bursts and overwhelming anxiety of the outcome of the inevitable talk with my absolute soul mate and admit I made a massive mistake and totally broke the promise I made to her. Thanks for sharing your story that was super brave and has given me a little hope that I can do the same. I feel so ashamed but mostly because I've broken the trust and my karma is the 1 thing I feared the most.

@nickc5374 absolutely!! Although I fear how she will take the news I just have to suck it up and find out I guess. I'm one of the lucky ones as my parents and I are very close and they have been super supportive, Mum used to be a counselor and give hiv talks to schools. Finding a lot of support from these channels and maybe 1 day I may pluck up the courage to tell my story when my U=U result comes in and I've found out how my wife is and whether or not she will stick by me.

Long story short the HIV caused the destruction of my platelets and I had zero. I was bleeding under the skin. Mine wasn’t a new infection. My viral load was over 5 million and my cd4 278. Wow thank you for your information it’s important to not only spread positivity and that life is still beautiful even after a diagnosis, but as well as giving out proper information. I had no idea there’s medication you can take after possible exposure. I do hope one day people can be kind and people diagnosed can be at peace, it’s not worth losing your mental health. So brave thank you for sharing ! I think it’s so unfair the stigma around HIV still like I really believe it should be taught more in secondary schools so people are aware more on safe sex but also what HIV is and hopefully it can remove some of the untrue facts and stigma that comes with it.

Catherine, no the stigma is not unfair. It is a terrifying disease. To know that you are dependent on a pill to keep you from suffering a horrific death, is terrifying. When I look back, I could have contracted this disease. I had a few questionable partners. So, I am not judging. But, I am glad that there is a stigma. Without that, we would have alot more infected. It breaks my heart, that this young woman, at the tender age of 25, is infected. But, it goes to show you, that regardless of all the information out there, it isn't enough.

Great video, i dont catched hiv but got recently a blood poisioning through a wound after falling like hell totally sober down the street in christmas. But the hospital treeated it in 2 days and fine again and so 5 on peniccillin. This was good to see that it went so good with you and a fun video to "i cant speac" it must be the vine=) But one i know with this and he catched it in Thailand in 2000 a neighour where grew up. He is totally fine and celebrated 80 years recently. A wery good authentic video, it must be a challenge and require bravery to talk in a video ab this. Best regards and best wishes=)

Well done for been open about this matter it all helps reduce stigma. Fortunately I don’t have this but, with modern treatments I must admit it doesn’t seem like a very big deal, considering that it was a death sentence in the 80s and most of the 90s too. But with todays modern treatments it doesn’t seem like something that needs worrying about. And it’s good that you aren’t ashamed to just come out and talk about it. You’re a pretty girl, be proud of who you are❤

Thanks for your video, Ellie. I recently had my annual physical. Last year, they just had one of the office staff ring me and tell me to take some vitamin D supplements. But this year they’re calling me back for a “follow up.” Since I have no idea what the doctor wants to tell me, I’ve had to prepare myself for the worst possible outcomes. I mean, if I need treatment, it’s not the doctor’s fault whatever the illness is. And if I only have 30 days to live, then at least I could get my affairs in order. Maybe take a vacation or something.

It’s definitely not a completely shot in the dark anymore. The new injection treatment will replace the one pill a day with a small injection once every 13 weeks.

Hi, I just came across your video on my feed and feel compelled to leave you a comment even though it’s been awhile since this was posted. I’m so sorry that you felt so scared to make this video but can totally understand it. I hope that you where only shown kindness and respect for being so brave. It’s heartbreaking that talking about HIV is still stigmatized….to me it’s no different than talking about cancer or any other illness but if it’s something to do with sex or illegal drug use, it’s somehow “taboo” My brother had HIV in the early 90’s before any of the life saving meds where available and unfortunately passed away in 1994. Back then it was awful because so many people died and I was nervous to tell people what caused my brothers death in fear of their possible judgment, although nobody ever said anything mean, thank goodness. So many people thought it was a “gay” disease back then and there was a lot of ignorance. I’m sure it’s gotten better but obviously there’s still stigma. I’m so glad that it’s treatable now and how amazing that by taking the medication, you actually test negative. That’s truly incredible. You’re a beautiful lady and have your whole life ahead of you, I wish you lots of peace and happiness.❤️

Hi, nothing made me suspect I had contracted it. I didn’t have any symptoms, just simply had a routine STI test between partners. Asking someone who/where they contracted HIV from is often seen as quite a rude question, and shouldn’t be speculated on.
