My HFT Journey - Episode 2: Weihrauch HW77K Pellet Trajectory

Спорт

So, I finally managed to post Episode 2 of my HFT Journey. Only two months late!!!
Watch to see how my Weihrauch HW77K paired with Air Arms Diabolo Field 16gr 5.52mm pellets, performs at metre intervals from 8 metres to 42 metres. I'm plotting the trajectory here, so not worried about windage, right to left.

My aim is to create honest reviews based on my experiences of the air rifles and accessories that I've used. They may not be to everyone's liking as I'm not here to simply promote everything I get my hands on. I'm here to tell the truth, plain and simple.
Constructive feedback is always welcome, but profanity or abuse is not and will not be tolerated.

    Loving this series mate , so glad to see people still learning the art on springers rather than going straight to PCP and not learning the skills , great tools as PCPs are , so great that skills are not really needed to be proficient, great stuff mate , good luck with the competing

    That was so very interesting Mark. Yes, we understand the principles but to see pellet trajectory logged like this in a real world situation has been really helpful. Thank you for the time and what was obviously a lot of effort in producing this programme. Looking forward to your continuing HFT journey. Just to add, I too prefer .22 for the same reasons as you. Old habits die hard 😉

    I will be doing the same with my 97k, but using the focus parallax as a range finder and using range stickers on my elevation turret for vermin control

    If you used those printouts of your reticle as the target it would save you marking it down later the pellets would mark it for you . Looking forward to watching your progress

    No.... that's not how it works. The reticle is the same size no matter what distance you shoot at. The target on the other hand although the same size moves further away and is affected by the effect of parallax. You have to remember that with distance, the reticle covers a larger and larger area as you stretch out the target.

    2 other things to consider, different size kill zones on HFT targets, and if there is any elevated targets, this will throw out your findings, you could put some targets on a pole and see how you get on my farmer once said to me 35 years ago, if you are shooting pigeons from a tree your POI will change if your POI is set for rabbits on the ground,so pick a leaf or a knot in the wood and zero your rifle into that ,good luck 😉

    And that's because gravity plays a part. Rule of thumb with elevated targets...Imagine dropping a plumb line straight down from the target and where it hits the ground, that's your distance to target. Doesn't matter how high up it is. All the best CC7986 and thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • @crazycressy7986

    @crazycressy7986

    @theGunLocker gravity do play a part ,if you are 25 yards from the foot of a tree ,and the target is 20 yards up that tree ,you then have a range of 32 yards not 25 yards

  • @theGunLocker

    @theGunLocker

    2 ай бұрын

    @@crazycressy7986 no it doesn't work that way. Gravity works against a horizontal path, so when you shoot upwards, it's the distance from you to the plumb line that is affected, not the actual distance from you to the target (diagonal)

    @theGunLocker m8 It does the yardage will be different from the foot of the tree to a target in the top of a tree ,get a A4 bit of paper ,from the right hand bottle corner, draw a line up 20cm ,then from the bottom right corner draw a line 25cm to the left ,stick a rule from the bottom left to the top right and the line of sight becomes 32cm ,simple maths lol

    Nice Video, Can you please tell how much power is your HW 97 doing? What is the speed of your pellet? If we have to analyse that chart closely you can see that the pellet is not perfectly switable to that rifle because it seem's to performe one spiral elips in is trajectory (that is visuall in the chart). If the pellet perform one perfect tragectory the chart must show one progresive chart curve. (of course that with the wind influence this conclusion is not as precise as at indoor test conditions). Nice Test 😉

    Hi @zimborapt5351, it's actually a HW77K and it's kicking out 11.16 ft lbs using 16 grain pellets. Speed 558 fps. Here in the UK we have a 12 ft lbs legal limit, so it is perfect for what I need it to do. Also, I take on board your comment about the spiral ellipse in the pellet trajectory. Well spotted! I will certainly talk about that in my next video. Thank you! All the best and thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • @zimborapt5351

    @theGunLocker Great Rifle 😉 I know the limit to UK, I was just cheking that, because with that limited power usually the .177 could perform bether with higher speed and eventually the encrease of the pellet weight for long distances shooting just to make it more stable to the wind effect (but you know thats always the same discusion about this)🤔 In all my tests I've confirmed that theory but with diferent brand rifles. Most of all we all can see your passion to what you're doing my friend. Believe me, that I share your passion. Don't stop please 👍

    I actually stated in the video that the rest was only to allow me to track the trajectory not for actual HFT training. I needed a firm base to get rid of some of the variables. All the best and thanks for watching.
