Teaching girls from infancy them and their bodies have little to no value and especially in comparison to our male counterparts. It is a painful realization as Latinas grow older. Always told you’re doing too much or not enough because your purpose is to serve someone else -a man in whatever way he pleases. Whether it be your cousin, neighbor, family friend. We have to do better.

It’s like that everywhere for women. In Asian countries, women are subservient to their husbands, cuz their a patriarchal society’s. The Middle East, is the same as we all know, how most women are treated in Muslim countries.

Great interview! I'm really loving these more in-depth conversations and seeing Shan develop into an amazing interviewer. Not sure who Lauren is, but I loved her self-awareness. Clearly an emotionally intelligent and growth-minded person. I definitely resonated with a lot of what she said. Especially the part about your body, or another part of you like your subconscious, knowing it is time to leave a relationship but your mind [or heart] not catching up just yet.

Abuse is how we raise Latino children and countless generations of trauma see no other way of doing it because they’re terrified of the physical and social repercussions. It is a struggle you would not imagine and too many beautiful intelligent woman are treated like possessions like slaves because abuse is engrained through generational trauma. The process to heal, discover self love and then discover that love in a human outside yourself that does not mimic that cycle is questionably the hardest mountain to climb.

The break up was so long ago now.. 🤔 When she did an interview for like Billboard or whatever explaining the significance behind Always Love when the music video was released last year and mentioned the ex I was like well okay, it has to do w the song she as the performer has the right to discuss the inspiration. But an interview now too to go in depth abt the relationship itself? Idk.. I feel like she’s bringing up old wounds and like this could potentially bring accusations for attention? Like I get introspection and discussing things for enlightenment but maybe it’s the fact that the actual relationship ended so long ago that this seems like a bit much to me. Maybe I’m wrong. Personally, if I was a public figure and had a fan base like Lauren that’s intruded upon and criticized every romantic partner I’d been with or attached to, I wouldn’t b able to go in depth abt these things or divulge details abt a current romance. But people are different; some are open books. I guess she is. But then again she also reads the critiques via twitter and will respond to those that intrude upon her personal life w annoyance…so I guess I just find it odd lol.
