I unsubscribed from them because of the fact that they refuse to watch the videos I explained numerous times that that's the way we saw them when we actually heard the song but they refused to this video came up on my recommended list

@@Ahsosauce Videos are tricky for reactors. They can lead to their reactions being blocked for copyright reasons. Also, there are sometimes a few different versions of a video, and hoo-boy the fans get upset if reactors watch the wrong one (even if it's an "official" one)!

James Jamerson. I love how, even though people tend to focus on his more melodically or rythmically complex bass lines, as examples of his genius, when he judged that a song needed something simple, he could produce something where every single note was measured to perfection. So tasteful.

this song is a Double S, triple S. One of the best songs ever written and performed

There is a companion song to this one, also written by Smokey Robinson, called My Guy performed by Mary Wells. This is equally worth a listen.

"My Guy" has some pretty crafty lyrics. In the B-section, it manages to squeeze the phrases "matter of opinion", "matter of taste" and "matter of fact" into 4 lines and make it all sound completely natural. You don't even notice them until someone points it out.

I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day. What an uplifting open line to a song!

When I was in Basic Training for the Air Force in Jan. 1965 this song and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling " played about every third song on the radio.

In my 60s and I'll still stop what I'm doing to dance around the room to this song.; car radios stayed up all night waiting to play it. "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" is the best follow-up!

The Temptations and The Four Tops were the heart and soul of "Motown in the 60s. This song in particular, is truly iconic. If I had a nickel for every time this song has been played in either a tv, or movie scene, I'd be a rich man. When this song starts, with those opening Bass notes, a smile of anticipation comes to my face. The memories of my youth and where we lived, all come rushing back to me. Different era, and good times. Thank you fellas

This song was written by the great Smokey Robinson one of the co founders of Motown, I believe, with Berry Gordy. He was even dubbed America's poet by Bob Dylan for his impeccable song writing

Smokey Robinson wasn't a co-founder of Motown. He was one of their house songwriters, as well as being the frontman for the Miracles. When he left the Miracles he became the VP of Motown.

You should definitely go down the Motown rabbit hole. So many amazing talents. Temptations, Four Tops, Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, and so much more!

You need to watch them performing the song. That was part of the charm of Motown. I would play this in my high school classroom as recently as 2 years ago and all my students would immediately start singing. Detroit pride!

The 1960s and early 1970s produced some the very best r&b, you guys really do need to fall down that rabbit hole. ❤

Their signature song, iconic, great, and the lyrics are like poetry. S-tier if ever there was one.

I witnessed many Motown acts. As a teenager back in the late 60's, early 70's I had a job as an usher in one of Toronto's top concert halls. Every year they brought in the very best of Motown such as The Temptations, The O'Jays, Gladys Knight and the Pips and many others. The music moved an entire generation and filled our night clubs and graced our dance floors with a cultural rhythm that absolutely inspired.

OK! Finally! I've been recommending this for 4 years A & A. Written by the incredible Smokey Robinson. My Girl is one of my top 10 songs, any genre, any decade, any time and anywhere. You should hear Smokey sing it. I got to see him in concert a few years ago and he still sounds beyond beautiful. So lucky to hear him.

This, like most Motown hits, was recorded in a converted two-car garage on the back of a house. The session musicians that played on most Motown hits were The Funk Brothers.

This is part of the Motown era & they had a lot of hits in the 60's - 80's such as "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", "I Wish It Would Rain", "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)", "I Can't Get Next To You", "Treat Her Like A Lady" etc. They were known for their harmonies, choreography & dress style.

One of my all time favorite songs. The bass, the horns, the voice and the lyrics. It helps that my girl and I have been together for 40 years and this song still reminds me of her 🙂

I never get tired of The Temptations. That sweet, sweet Motown sound. There’s nothing like it. My absolute favorite by them is “I Wish It Would Rain”. The back story on the song is heartbreaking but the performance is so soulful and perfect.

Motown had an almost endless series of hits. These guys could mine that mother lode forever.

There are some songs that are so iconic, so engrained in the culture, that it's not a song anymore. It's an anthem, an explanation for being, why we do what we do, how we live. My Girl is that song.

Any bass player who's ever played the instrument knows, or should know, that opening bassline. Beyond iconic. This is one of the songs that helped put Motown on the map. Smokey Robinson wrote so many hits for various Motown artists... Including of course himself and the Miracles. Check out "More Love" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. And "Just My Imagination" by The Temptations. I've seen The Temptations individually, solo excursions, and as a group over the years as part of my early musical evolution. They were pure perfection.. among the most influential groups in modern popular music. RIP to all of the original members.

Every week in the 60s there was another all-time great song showing up on the radio - or multiple ones the same week. What a time to be young. It was heaven.

"Sunshine on a cloudy day" really sets the tone. When you hear that line, you know your ears are in the presence of greatness!

It was a good time to be alive. I was exposed to all types of music and loved everything. The Motown sound.. Amazing.

In it's day this was a Monster Hit. All radio stations played the hell out of it. My teenage years. Loved it! Easy sing along tune.

David Ruffin, seemingly almost inconspicuously, added just enough emotive grit in the second half of this, to make an already great song, into something truly legendary.

Only absolute perfection.

Motown was huge back in the day. We wore the vinyl out playing the Temps Greatest hits and The Four Tops while washing our cars in the driveway at my buddy's house in the suburbs and sharing our tunes with the neighbors. RIP VRJ, my brother from another mother.

Music was ridiculously good in the 60s and 70s. I just took it for granted growing up with it but now when I listen I can really get how great it was.

We would attend the Michigan State Fair every year in Detroit in the fifties and sixties. For the small price of admission to the fair we would go to the band shell and see the following groups and singers; Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Jackson Five, Martha & the Vandellas, Smokey Robinson , Mary Wells ( I’ve Got Two Lovers) and many more!

I remember seeing the 5th Dimension and Michael Jackson at the Ohio State Fair in early 70s.

One of the greatest songs of all times. If you want to check a song in a similar vein, Todd Rundgren was inspired to write “We Gotta Get You A Woman” from this. It was a pretty big hit for Todd.

This is an all-time great Motown tune. There's a film about the session musicians (The Funk Brothers) who played with Motown: "Standing in the Shadows of Motown." The singers did well but many of the musicians didn't make much.A lot of the guys were struggling to get by in old age. There was a particularly emotional moment with the guy (guitarist Robert White) who played that memorable opening guitar lick. Wonderful stuff.

This song has always existed. This is the difference between a joyous song, and writing a joyous song -- it's so effortless -- Smokey let his heart write the song. I saw Smokey about 20 years ago. His chill confidence was amazing -- he told a kinda smart-ass joke about him and Stevie Wonder, and it worked -- he called Stevie "Steve" so Stevie called Smokey "Smoke."

Smokey wrote the lyrics of "My Girl" with his wife Claudette Rogers Robinson in mind. But he had hoped to write and produce a song with David Ruffin, the newest member of the Temptations, in the lead. "My Girl" introduced David Ruffin to the music world.

This is actually the aecond Smoky Robinson song series. On 1964 he wrote "My Guy" for Motown's first female star, Mary Wells. It was a hit (and one you should definitely check out). A year later came My Girl. A pretty cool matched set!

This was the first song I ever sang to my girlfriend and was the first dance at our wedding in 1987. I think it is the best song Motown ever made.

this was their first Number 1 hit in December of 1964. its all because of David Ruffin (the voice of The Temptations) because "No one comes to see you, Otis"

Motown really was Hitsville USA. The number of A+ and S tier songs is crazy high. Perhaps the silkiest, the love child of butter and cloud, is Ooh Baby Baby by Smokey. Wow. And the ending is stunning.

Back in the 80’s or 90’s my local news station used this in a commercial to promote their weatherman. So it was, “I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day…” and some other creative lyrics, and then “who can make me feel this way? Bob Turk!” Awesome. WJZ-TV Baltimore REPRESENT

As Classic as Classic can possible be. I know all things were not great for all people when these tunes were created, but lord, they harken back to very different, and I believe in many ways better, somewhat simpler, yet still very complex times.

Starts in C - considered by many to be the people's key. Then it transposes up to D - the happy hopeful key. Great vocals, honest poetry that's straightforward but not obvious or trite or maudlin, plus some tasty instrumentation and arrangement. A perfect love song in every way.

This was a wedding song at a family wedding - a radiant bride dancing with her proud dad.

I’m glad you guys are getting back to some Motown. Smoky Robinson was an important songwriter for Motown and he was very involved in the production process so you can bet he had a lot to do with how this song turned out. I’m not sure what Miracle’s songs you’ve heard, but some of my favorites are Baby, Baby Don’t Cry and Ooh Baby Baby (which Linda Ronstadt did a great cover of). A couple other groups you really should check out are Junior Walker and the All-Stars (What Does it Take and Shotgun), and Martha and the Vandellas, who did some great tunes like Dancing in the Street and Nowhere to Run (fantastic song!).

This is the song we would sing to out daughter as she was growing up. To this day 30years later it’s still our family song. Even so much my daughter has the title tattooed on her in my hand writing. S-tier.
