As you can see from the state of mould in my daughter's room, I needed a dehumidifier, fast. And better than fixing the room properly, I wanted the cheapest, sorry... best value dehumidifier out there. UPDATE: Been using Silentnight Dehumidifier for a while and it's fantastic. Captures a lot of water for us - half a container per few days!
It sounds like a small fan so we don't run it at night - mostly only during the day.
MORE OF AN UPDATE: Thanks for your kind suggestions in the comments, it was a small piece of loft insulation missing directly above the patch, which made that part of the ceiling the coldest part of the room. All fixed now.
IT'S 70 WATTS.
I also show a small dehumidifier too - the ProBreeze which is really good too.
Not quite as powerful but can be run at night for sound.

Thanks for the video mate, appreciate you taking the time to do the review. Im currently having the same issue with our house in several rooms, moisture on the walls and ceiling and honestly no idea what to do about it other than using a dehumidifier. So again, this helps me out. Cheers Kris

Thanks for the kind message Kris -- good luck In the case of the patch - turns out it was a tiny bit of insulation missing in the loft above - so it was the coldest part of the room. Anyway, thanks again

Thanks Doctor Bag - appreciate the kind message
The mould is being caused due to thermal bridging id say? Bet if u went up into ur attic ud find that the insulation is pulled back between the joists. The mould is in the shape and rough sizing of the space between the joists. My best guess anyway. Good luck with it!

Hi Murtagh7484 Thanks for the very kind comment and yes, you're absolutely right - there was some insulation missing exactly above the patch! Put some in and it's not come back. It's everywhere else in the house but not here thankfully. Thanks again for the great message, I appreciate it

Thanks for the kind comment Erica! We're still using it, what 3 years on! It's a very basic unit, but the bigger/more expensive ones are too much for what we need, so totally happy with this. Hope this helps, and good luck!
Looks like a cold patch on the ceiling, maybe loft insulation is not covering that part of the ceiling or a draft from the window, therefor the dew point is lower there. Strange how it’s only in that one patch, did you ever fix the problem at source, if so what was causing it?
@DADDELIVERS
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind comment Paul - it was exactly as you diagnosed. In the loft there was a tiny patch between the rafters where there was no insulation, with insulation either side! Put a bit of insulation in and it thankfully hasn't come back... though it's just appearing in all the other cold places in the house! Thanks again
You said and explained everything except how much power in Watts does this thing take. Thank you for the video anyway

How is the dehumidifier? Will is work OK in a bathroom?

Hi David, thanks for the kind question - we're still using it! Though I probably wouldnt use in in a bathroom because I'd have to run a power lead in to make it work, though could probably do with something in there. We tried unpowered ones that use tablets but they were a complete pain and quite expensive!

You need to spend a bit more to get a decent one, the small ones are just toys! An Ecoair will set you back £150-£200 and would do a far better job. Meaco also have some decent desiccant models or you could get a compressor style one instead.

Yes but so not to leave people thinking that desiccant models are on par with compressor style ones, it is important to point out they are designed for different scenarios. Desiccant dehumidifiers are designed to be used in low temperature environments, typically up to a maximum 20°C, compared to compressor style units which need a minimum average temperature of 20°C before they will start working. I agree though that it would be far more efficient to purchase a larger unit and run it from a central point in the home, like a landing, and for all rooms to have their doors open to allow adequate air flow. Personally I am waiting for the Meaco units to come back into stock as my last unit gave out after 20 years of use and the new models are even more efficient than the old models.

@@thebearsschitzoidmind9707 I don't know this brand but we have one very similar and it seems to be neither compressor nor desiccant. It seems to work by blowing air over a large heat sink..
great video! though currently this is priced at £63! hiping there are cheaper alternatives available which can be just as good.

Hi Bhavisha! Thanks for the v kind comment and ouch! Thanks for letting me know, wow that's an increase. Wonder if it's gone up because it's inflation, or dehumidifier season, or ready to fall for an upcoming promotion.... The much smaller one which is linked in the description has also helped and taken out quite a bit of water... I've only tried the non electrical ones and they were absolutely useless. I've also tried using a big plastic storage box or bucket with a tonne of salt in it which is really effective, but looks terrible and makes a mess if it's knocked over! Sorry I can't be more help, would love to know if you find anything else out there. Thanks again

@@DADDELIVERS I checked out the smaller one you mentioned and those that particular one plus similar models are priced at 30-35 ish at the moment. I wonder how long this crazy inflation is going to last. its getting ridiculous day by day it seems. I tried the non electrical ones but they are such a waste of money, though at the moment they are my something better than nothing. lol. Will definitely let you know if I find anything else on the market on any deals or something. Thank you though for this video. if the prices ever go down, I know which one to buy! Thanks :)

@@Marina__D As far as I could see the Meaco Arete One 20L is one of the best dehumidifiers right now. Unfortunately in the UK it's out of stock everywhere, so I ended up buying a Meaco DD8L dessiccant dehumidifier. It still works great, but definitely consumes more electricity than the Arete One would. Although the one I bought (DD8L) has the nice side effect of providing some heat to the room too, which in my case is a nice welcome.

Try lightly spraying the ceiling with clorex cleaner+bleach in the green sprayer bottle. Be sure to lay down something like plastic sheeting underneath because the mild bleach droplets will discolor some fabrics. No more pet mold on the ceiling.
