  • @FishingwithRod

    @FishingwithRod

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good question, a couple others have asked the same thing and I really should have mentioned it. All of the pink salmon you encounter in the Fraser River are wild/unclipped. Majority of the fish spawn naturally in all the Fraser River tributaries as well as the Fraser River itself (mostly between Chilliwack and Hope). There is a small component of hatchery fish but they are not marked, unlike the coho salmon program. Because of this, you can keep any pink salmon you catch.

    Thanks! I use an improved Albright knot to attach the braid main to my fluoro. I should also have noted in the video that I find this connection works well with at least 12 or 15lb fluoro to the braid. 10lb or less it either breaks or slips quite easily.

    Hi, Thank you for this video: highly instructive :) I have a few questions for you: 1) Do you use a swivel between your main line and the fluorocarbon leader? 2) Do you use a snap clip to attach the fluorocarbon leader to the selected lure? 3) What brands of spoons / spinners (aside from the Blue Fox) would you recommend? Thank you kindly in advance for your answers :) Take care

  • @FishingwithRod

    @FishingwithRod

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks David. I use an improved Albright knot to connect the braided main to the fluorocarbon leader since the leader is several feet long. If you use a swivel, you wouldn't be able to cast with that much line sticking out. I personally don't use a snap swive to connect the lure to the fluorocarbon leader, but you could. I like to keep my setup as minimal as possible. Here in BC, Prime Lures' spoons and spinners are really good for chinook, coho and pink salmon.

    If visibility is so low, why the need for a fluoro leader at all? Does it make a difference vs going straight form mainline to lure?

  • @FishingwithRod

    @FishingwithRod

    2 жыл бұрын

    I guess that might just be all in my head, thinking it’d give me a better chance. 😉 One thing to note is that the water clarity can change from hour to hour sometimes in the Tidal Fraser due to the tide. The incoming saltwater tends to be. clearer than the silty freshwater. Sometimes 2 or 3 feet of visibility can take place, in that case I’d like to have my fluoro on instead of just straight braid to the lure.

    Any tips for cooking freshwater pinks? I caught a very bright looking buck with red firm meat in my local river (stateside) and the meat was frankly speaking atrocious. It tasted like trout, and not even a good trout, like I imagine the worlds worst stocker trout would taste like. Totally muddy flavor. For some reason the hen I harvested that had flesh turning white tasted better. I panseared it with heavy spice and made fish tacos. For whatever reason after cooking the meat turned white

  • @FishingwithRod

    I'm not that fond of eating pink salmon to be honest, their flavour and texture are just ok. I've never experienced a muddy pink salmon though. I do enjoying smoked pink salmon, particular salmon candies. I've also made pink salmon into fish cakes/patties as well, but I think that could be done with just about any fish with the right seasonings. It's pretty normal for their meat to turn pale once cooked. I do have a couple of recipe ideas I am going to try with this year's pinks and will film those, regardless if they are successful or not lol.

    What is the best spot for these fish.

    The best spot is where the fish are passing through. You can catch pink salmon anywhere in the Fraser, I would focus more on timing than location as I mentioned in the video.
