I know absolutely nothing about cameras but I am impressed with your bag and how organized you are with your equipment. Safe travels and great shots, Michael. I know they miss you at La Lande.

Thank you so much! I miss it there too! Can't wait to get back!
Now you’re speaking my language! Love seeing your kit and the minimalist approach. It’s how I shoot too. I find it makes me more creative to have the constraint of a few lenses only. Loving your channel!

Thank you. That sigma is a great lens, I can hand hold it if needed and I get a great range from it. It is really important when composing shots to have flexibility.

@@MichaelPottsF1 Do you find the Sigma 150-600 lens too heavy for panning shots?
@MichaelPottsF1

@@daveb6765 Hi Dave. I generally use a mono pod for panning shots. You can hand hold to pan, but at 600mm you get a bit too much up and down movement without some sort of stability.

Thank you for your video. I have the same Sigma lens and I always had some doubts if it's good enough for sports photography especially nights, and I saw this video and a few others with night races. Great photos I love them. Keep up the good work.

Thank you! I'm glad it was helpful. That Sigma lens is mighty. I've taken it all over the world to some extreme conditions and it always performs. The range is incredible. I am however thinking about moving to the new Nikon Z 180-600. I've used it a bit this year and it is lovely.
I really loved hearing about what you take to the track, Michael. The video gives me and everyone else watching a really good perspective about what’s needed during a race weekend to get the shots that the fans love. Hope to see you trackside sometime in 2023😌

I know absolutely nothing about cameras, but it is great hearing people talk about their passion. Coincidently, Vladimir Rys also shared an outtake of in interview with Anton Corbijn today (on his Instagram). It also mentioned not taking too much gear, because they will just be in the way. But it also forces you to make those couple of lenses and camera’s work. It makes you more creative. And it shows in your work too.

Nice and informative video, many thanks. I also lost the ring on one of my Z9 cameras (€39) in Europe so I decided to attach a very small and thin fishing wire through the ring before attaching and then the other end to my Smallrig cage, I feel it is a design fault as this never ever happened to any of my D6 or D5 cameras. Regards, John

I've not had this before either. There is a plastic ring that holds it together which is very thin. Thats what broke on mine.

@@MichaelPottsF1 It is somewhat strange that it can so easily fall off, I am guessing that during a concert I rubbed the release button against my ThinkTank harness, for now I have looped thin fishing wire through the ring and as mentioned attached it to my Z9 Smallrig cage.

Thanks Michael. Love the reviews and now the insight into your "private" sphere. Is this a dedicated camera bag from the manufacturer, or one you adapted yourself?
@MichaelPottsF1
Жыл бұрын
The bag is a consumer one, but they have made it in such a way that you can modify the shape of the inner compartments to be perfect for your specific kit. Really well thought through product.
I really appreciate that you took the time to show us your camera bag. I have been longing to learn more about photography. I have a summer home on Lake Michigan which affords me many opportunities to view nature, not to mention the beautiful sailboats. Any suggestions as to where I should start?
@MichaelPottsF1

I would probably go for a wide lens to capture as much of that stunning landscape, then maybe a mid level zoom - 120 or 200mm to capture the boats.

@@MichaelPottsF1 Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I am not getting any younger so I guess I better start the search for the appropriate camera. My son-in-law is from Namibia South Africa, he is a very nice young man just like you!!!
Great insight into the equipment that makes it all happen. Not surprising that someone in the F1 scene with existing Nikon glass would eventually find their way to the Z9. No Z lenses yet though - any thoughts on the new Z telephoto range?
@MichaelPottsF1
Жыл бұрын
I am still pondering which Z lens to get first. I've been hesitant because they are not backwardly compatible to the F mount (at least I think they are not). I've used a few of them and they are amazing.
Hi Michael, thank you for sharing your insights from F1 Photography here in this channel. Since this video is a bit about gear and you are using Z9 as I understand, I might have a question. How do you handel AF-area mode for race photography with Z9? Are you using more Wide Area AF or Dynamic Area AF (as maybe in th old DSLR)? I´m asking since i had the chance to photopgraphy a BossGP race recently, but usally doing more Sports like Soccer, Eishokey e.g. and that might be a different game. Cheers from Germany!

Hello, I don't use the vehicle tracking option on the Z9 for F1, it tends to lock onto wheels where I need to focus on the drivers helmet. I tend to use spot focus, I feel I am more in control that way.
