MY FLEXIBILITY STORY | kinkysweat

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hey All!
I finally filmed my story on how I came to do all the cray stuff you see on my Instagram 🙈
This channel started with product reviews, then my Instagram turned into a movement journey, and now I'm pulling both platforms together.
While I was editing, I realized that I left so much out and still have tons to say, ha! I will make a vid of what "kinkysweat" means, a more in depth handstand story, and of course of my love affair with makeup 💓
Please don't hesitate to ask questions! This is more describing how I became flexible, less about sketching out steps of what to do. Every body is different, and there are so many training drills and methods out there. I will eventually make more vids of the drills I practice to perhaps lend some guidance.
Thank you all again for watching!
xoxo

You don't understand how much I needed this video. I've always wanted to be more flexible and I always felt like I had to kept it as a secret because people would think that's weird and unattainable at my age, 24. I'm on a journey to be free and I feel like that's inclusive of the body as well as the mind and soul. THANK YOU.

I truly hope you are doing well on your journey and send you some stranger internet hugs for it! I know it sounds cliché but we all need to focus on our mind, body and spirit is some way, shape or form. In working on your body try not to neglect the other two. All three will help you in your personal relationships and how you interact with the world. I've been doing lots of introspection lately, looking backward and forward, but hearing and seeing how other people and friends deal with challenges is inspiring. I'm 49 now and realising I need to do something physical if I plan to be fit and active in the next phase of my life. I teach the violin and at my age I'm REALLY starting to feel if you don't use it you loose it, and I'm NOT ready for that! So good luck, and keep blazing your own trail, its never too late to start the fire! 💗🔥

I started training my flexibility at 21, and was able to touch my toes with straight knees at 22. Took another year until I got my flat splits but they weren't square. At that age it was so easy to lose flexibility. Now I'm 30 and if I don't stretch consistently I lose it within a week.

That's strange. I'm 30 and had my first baby this January. Before I got pregnant it took me about 2 months to get my middle splits then I stopped stretching a few months before I got pregnant. A month ago I decided to test my flexibility and I can still do most things like splits and back bends but not the middle splits.

So happy to see this vid! I'm also 31 and sort of non-seriously danced here and there throughout my childhood (although I was no dance major ha!) but over years of working in the office and just plain laziness I've let myself become so tight it's nuts! Like you I also got into strength training a couple of years ago and let my flexibility slide and now I'm really regretting it. For one thing, some of the tightness negatively impacts my strength training!! I thought maybe it was just too late for me at this point. You give me hope!

Thank you for this!! I love that you took the time to explain your journey, and a lot of it resonates with me and gives me encouragement. I’m in my mid-30s, I also come from a non-expert dance/gymnastics background, and in college I worked up to my splits-so I know what kind of work you’re talking about. Now, unfortunately, I’m starting over-not from zero, but from negative digits. I’m in my first of 8+ years of treatment for chronic Lyme disease, which has taken everything from me. I currently can’t even put on my own socks without hurting myself. But this video has encouraged me to make this kind of work my eventual goal when my body can handle it again. ... Also, I love your earrings. :)

Thank you for this!!! I’m a dancer and growing up I used to religiously stretch and force myself into positions because I really wanted to gain flexibility. Being young my hard work definitely paid off quickly. However at 18 I trained in fulltime dancing where we focussed so much on strength. I began doing cross training which involved all strengthening too. Then my body just tightened and stiffened!!! It didn’t help that I didn’t stretch as much I was before too. Then I began stretching more as the year went on but then I stopped dancing that year after and went to university where I mainly just sat all day and I could no longer do the splits to save my life Coming back to pursuing dancing again at 21, I have finally come back to stretching and hoping I can return the level of flexibility I had at 15/16 years old whilst still also strengthening my body. Thanks for this video! It gave me re-assurance and motivation to continue my daily stretching. Slowly but surely!!! I also watched this video whilst stretching!

Hooray! I’m so happy your inspired again to train again. I always like to think that we never lose anything: it’s sitting in the attic, and we need to dust and sweep! Your body remembers, but the strategy needs to change. We might not able to get warm as quickly, but we can still make it happen!

Thank you so much for this video!!! You just said all of the things that I needed to hear. I was a dancer for most of my life, I haven't danced for almost 3 years. I just lay around in bed all day being sad because I have no support system. I have gotten so fat (155 lbs) and I run out of breath just taking a bath. I only get ready when I feel up to doing a video and that is like pulling teeth. I belong to a gym that has awesome Yoga and Palates classes but I don't go. I want to perform again (I'm going to perform again) in the fall. I have time to do this ( You just told me that). I will go to the gym this week. I always enjoy hearing stories about the journey that takes you to your heart's desire. I also began dancing at age 3. I found dance was my favorite through the years, primarily for the art, the movement, and there was no talking necessary. It was for me. The more introverted me became the more extroverted me. The more modest me became the more free-to-be me. Dance taught me the basics, experience taught me the rest. I wanted to be a professional dancer and became one. Traveled the world dancing and living. What better career I cannot imagine. After retiring I was already certified in yoga and health and taught full time. Menopause entered my life at age 44 and by 45 my body started changing and continued to do so for 11 years. I miss teaching, I miss dancing, but, I have to accept life and all of its changes and challenges. At age 56 I am finding a different, comfortable, in-my-own-skin, and it's just as beautiful, if not more. Enjoy all of the opportunities, advancements, setbacks...the waves keep coming. Never forget: Flexibility of mind is also important. 🌿🕊️💕🌍 Patience and practice, and safety, will take you places. 👍

I don't want to take yoga as I see it as a spiritual thing and not as something just to help with flexibility . I feel that flexibility in yoga is a by-product. But I have never been very flexible and my hips are way tight. I have long way to go but I'm up for the challenge.

Such a great vid! I am 31 as well and come from a dancing background! We have similar stories in that I dropped my dancing / flexibility after college and it wasn't till I started Aerial Silks this year that I realised how important my flexibility was again! Your point on yoga was interesting too. I never really "got it" as I was more about the pilates (active strength) and gymnastics / flexibility. However with yoga becoming ever popular and trendy I thought maybe I was just not appreciating the flexibility push it gives you - but it really doesn't I feel. Not in the way a dance class or contortion class would. Being a bit older and still pushing your flexibility have you had any injuries? My hamstrings are giving me far more grief the older I get!

+MissEm23 Thank you for watching!!! I did undergo a neck injury as of late, and have no idea how it happened! I was stretching, and did my usual warmup, and bang! Neck pain so severe I had to visit the chiropractor. I will say, that being older forces me to be ultra adamant about warming up and doing more active drills to get the muscles ready!

I started yoga after my 1st marathon at 45 hoping to run a 2nd--that didn't come to past but I stayed with yoga and now at 60 I just started aerials. Surprisingly, I am usually the flexy-ist student in most my classes--I can oversplit and full forward fold with foot behind head and king pigeon. I didn't really concentrate on it but improved gradually over years of consistent practice along with strength and mobility from handstand drilling. Also, a shout out to Body&Pole--love that studio and thanks for the inspiration!!

The training part is really key. I'm a spiritual gypsy so it can be a spiritual practice, but for a long time it was my main form of exercise and then when I started riding and jumping horses (at 37, yikes), it was a way to train a whole new level of flexibility and build strength in a way that wouldn't interfere with the strength I was building in the saddle. I thought I had strong legs and bendy hips, and I mostly do, I have crap external rotation, but man, equestrians have CRAZY strong legs and flexibility, especially jumpers. So strong they (and me for a long time) ride and jump without stirrups. I haven't been on a horse since 2019 since I rarely ride in January or February at my current barn and then COVID. Rude awakening coming my way soon. And I agree about having to seek out specific hand balance training for inversions and handstands. so. many. workshops with people who would breakdown the shoulder and arm and core action.

Yes always danced when I was young in parties at clubs never professionally though. I do believe i have that wish I am trying to bring out. Yet it feels like it is not fast enough, and your video reminds me to be patent with my self. After all it is not a race, it is just me trying to gain Rhythm and timing. I am not sure how I did it before but it fees very right now as I am working on my alignment and pasture. I would love to here opinions on alignment and pasture if you will. For it feels like my hole body has been off bones muscles and all specially after losing yet now gaining muscle mass again as I train partially here at home because of the pain.

Where in the world do you take a contortionist (is that how it's spelled) or flexibility class? Never heard of it... I'm almost 37 and just started ballet. Dancing with 12 year old girls in leotards sure is depressing. Being adult is depressing! They'll never let us perform, basically it's just an EXPENSIVE hobby! Sad... And talking about inflexible, lol. Never did sports in my life, so splits may happen on my death bed, hehe. Or not even then.

I found that I had to be OK with the fact that I will not be in the circus, and not perform at a high level. I could probably do a gig here and there. And yes, it can turn into an expensive hobby. Does it make you happy? I know that this has become my preferred way of training-as it combines strength and flexibility. I discovered it when I attended an aerial class. There was a flexibility class on the schedule that sparked my interest. And that was a wrap! 🤣

It’s too late!” And then I ask myself, would my life have been better if I decided to start younger? Would I have wanted to? It’s a conversation that comes and goes. Especially during those moments you described, being surrounded by youngsters doing THA MOST. It’s all good, because we are able and we still have something to offer!

Keep it up. You will get your split. Ballet is perfect for it. When they have you go down in the pointe foot into a split, and have you lengthen your legs in middle split as you push back and then bring your legs together is how I got my wall split and floor split in less than 4 months. You can do it🤣

Hi!! Love this. I'm a dancer/dance teacher and I've been told my whole life that when you get older you can't get more flexible. It was so discouraging. What's your best tips for training back flexibility? I feel like I have to take it super slow or my back starts getting "crunchy," or some days I have it and then the next few I lose it? Any one else experience this?
