Absolutely! Clark Quay is a vibrant and lively spot in the evening, perfect for enjoying the nightlife and experiencing the bustling atmosphere of the pubs and restaurants as you said. Still, I think we were there in the afternoon going into the evening, which was not the best time.

1. Grab does work here. Grab was founded in Malaysia but is now based in Singapore. 2. You might want to try public transport while in Singapore. More affordable and rather convenient. You can tap your credit card to get on and again when getting off buses and trains. 3. The river you were at is the Singapore River. 4. As mentioned elsewhere, do try the local food at the hawker centres. Clarke Quay is very touristy. 5. Hope you managed to visit Changi Jewel (before clearing immigration) on the way out. You arrived at the smaller Terminal 4 which isn’t as flashy as the other terminals though if you’re departing from there, stay for the 7 min video show after you clear security. I’ve always enjoyed it.

Quay is pronounced Qey(Kee) and is a place by the river where goods are unloaded/loaded from river boats (wooden tongkangs) that ply between the harbour and quay. These boats have deep depth cargo holding capacity, where the main part of the boat would be below the water line (plimsol line)when fully loaded. The goods are usually stored in those buildings by the river (now converted into commercial F&B). The quay buildings are wharehouses called godowns in the old days. Some parts are designed with sloping steps to accommodate the long protruding bow where access to the boat lies. Some parts are plain straight down usually used for berthing. Just so you know, Singapore was the main port of call for passing cargo ships and for passenger steamships and serves the whole of Peninsula Malaya, where most goods produced in British Malaya, were brought down to Singapore and shipped overseas. In those days of the steamship, most Malayan Mecca pilgrims had to travel down to Haji Lane for temporary accommodation where the beach lies meters away to board the ships there.

I believe that you're right.

Singapore is a world away from the Philippines. It's like they're not on the same planet. Singapore is 60 miles north of the equator. Not 85. And the island of Singapore is over 280 square miles, not 18 square miles. The airport is pronounced Changeee, not Chong Eeee. I notice others have already instructed on pronouncing quay -- no worries, I lived there for years and pronounced it key -- obstinate American LOL. But it's funny how many locals I converted to pronouncing it key. Oddly enough, that was the SINGAPORE River LOL. The fresh orange juice from the machine is really good.

Do try out the food and drinks that Singapore has to offer at the hawker centres. Singapore hawker centres provide delicious and affordable food. Examples include Maxwell Food Centre, Chinatown Complex Food Centre, Tiong Bahru Hawker Centre, Kovan Hawker Centre and Commonwealth Crescent Hawker Centre. Some of these hawker centres are 2-in-1 Market and Hawker Centre, with the hawker centre typically located on the 2nd level. Do note that Singapore typically regards the 1st level of any building as the ground level. So locals who are in the elevator might ask you: 'Which floor?' They are actually asking which level of the building do you want to go to. If you want to go to the ground level, you can tell the person in the elevator: '1st floor.' The elevator in some places may have a 'G' button, but '1' for the ground level is more common. Interesting fact, the building on the left of the Parliament House with an interesting UFO-like disc-shaped roof at 13:12 or 13:13 is actually the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore, which continues to hear the most serious Civil and Criminal cases. The building behind the Supreme Court Building with the green dome is the Old Supreme Court Building, which used to hear the most serious Civil and Criminal cases. It is now part of the National Gallery of Singapore.

@@TravelingTutor If you do go to Maxwell Food Centre on Wednesday or Thursday around 10am or 11am, be sure to try some Tapioca Cake and Ondeh-Ondeh from Heng Heng Ondeh-Ondeh & Tapioca Cake. They have the best Tapioca Cake and Ondeh-Ondeh. Tapioca Cake is made from Cassava, which locals here call Tapioca. The Tapioca is grated and other ingredients like Coconut Cream, Pandan infused water and sugar are added before it is steamed. The Tapioca Cake is than coated in Grated Coconut before it is sold to customers. Ondeh-Ondeh (pronounced as OnDay-OnDay) is like a dumpling with a liquid palm sugar filling. The granulated sugar inside the dumpling is melted during the boiling process, giving a liquid filling. It is also coated in Grated Coconut before it is sold to customers.
