As a native German speaker it took me almost a decade to get what you could consider fluent and the first piece of media I could watch and understand was in 6th grade and it was not great either (in German we learn English, depending on your location either from the 2nd half of 1st grade or from 3rd grade (I happen to learn it since 1st grade) and because it was school I didn't really wanted to learn it for 8 years) so I think it's very amazing that ya'll try to understand it after half of that time.

Anna Without That is what is so frustrating in the UK. I am learning German for my GCSEs and while I am pretty decent at writing it, I am horrible when speaking and listening because of fluency and accent issues. I wish we learnt a foreign language a lot sooner but because there is no obvious option, I guess we don’t. It really annoys me because I went to Germany recently and I knew nearly everyone could understand me but there was still a large language barrier which I hoped would at least be a bit smaller. I love German though and really enjoy learning it. It is a great language!

@@epickworth7421I feel like this is an english speaking country thing. You can't go through a German school without learning 2 other languages and on of them is English, for the 2nd one you can choose between french and whatever other language your school offers for 6th grade. In my old school it was dutch, in my current school it would've been latin and in 8th grade they'd also have the opportunity to change (or add?) to spanish. Now in the 1st grade of a-levels we had the opportunity to change to spanish or russian or stick to french or latin and after 5 years of french on my previous school with a terrible class and an even more terrible teacher I choosed spanish tho I wouldn't have to as I had it for 5 years. However, we learned English because it is the most spoken language and since English speaking countries already have that I feel like it's also harder to choose, I mean French and Spanish are the obvious ones because they were also very freaking good at colonization, but how would someone come to the conclusion that German would be a great language to teach at an English school? There are definitely more popular and easier languages out there. We only had dutch in my previous school because we're like 30 minutes from the border some of my classmates could literally spit over the border. Wouldn't it make more sense to teach Asian languages as Asia is so huge and has a huge population? I mean I can't say anything about the difficulty of those languages but wouldn't make that more sense? Why do we think so western?

Im actually pretty impressed by your german! Of course you still make minor mistakes like " ein bisschen zu MEHR" instead of "ein bisschen zu VIEL" or "wo ich mit 'Welcome Home!' begrüßt HABE" instead of "mit 'Welcome Home!' begrüßt WURDE" (i assume you didnt intend to say that you greeted the border control with 'Welcome Home!' but rather they greeted you) Apart from minor stuff like that your german is actually **really** good and i had absolutely no problem understanding what you said, even your jokes were pretty good ! small edit: I never heard anyone call it "Wasser mit Gas" before maybe that's a bavarian thing but i only know it as "Wasser mit Sprudel" or "Wasser mit Kohlensäure" :)

I've never regarded "Wasser mit Gas" as a correct term, it reminds me of Spanish (aqua con/sin gas), thus I've heard it on my vacantion in other countries, when they tried to speak German to me. After that, I heard it more and more in some Croation and Greek restaurants, I always thought, to obtain the "exotic feeling". I still dislike it and prefer to call it "Wasser mit Kohlensäure". (I dislike it since "Gas" - it's the same in English - reminds me too much of the Second World War in which gas was used to kill thousands of innocent people. And I would like to be respectful to it, not getting laughs for an "exotic" "with gas?" when asked as a restaurant. Oh well, I am too strict, I know.)

In Belgiam they call it water with "gas" too but because of the Flemish accent I heard cheese and my Dutch ass was confused af. We say "with sting" or with Kohlensaüre in the Netherlands as well.
