I totally get the excitement of catching a new species using a different method, and yes, sheepshead are very under rated, both as fighters and as table fare. My buddy who recently got into fly fishing just got his first redfish on fly using a shrimp fly that he tied himself. I might tell him to send you a few of his flies if you're interested. Some of the local shops started selling his stuff, and you would get him more exposure than either of our tiny channels ever will.

Spot on about the firsts, my latest is clown knife fish on lures and landed six in two hours a few weeks ago. It never gets old, just not as new. Another old timer here, born in Key West living in Palm Beach so fishing for sixty years and work no longer gets in the way. I used spinning rods only (except for some conventional rods deep sea) up until three years ago but now use mostly bait casters and lately some BFS. That added a whole new feel so no worries, you will never run out of firsts.

Any kind of fishing is amazingly fun but catching a fish on a fly is so much more challenging, I find anyway. I live in the Rocky Mountains in Canada and when you hook in to a big Rainbow, Brown, Cutthroat or Bull trout on a light setup trying to figure out what they're eating is so satisfying. I can't tell you how many times I've been skunked using a particular fly then switch sizes but use the exact same pattern and then all hell breaks lose. It's really strange and cool how specific and precise you have to be when choosing flies..

Glad u r back Dawg😎
My favorite fish is whichever one is yankin' on my line at the time. Size don't matter much.
also DOA makes 2in shrimp lures. also a 2.75in. Both amazing for inshore especially if needing a smaller profile bait
Great video brother 👍💪🎣😁
Good job man. Any fish on fly is fun lol! My first was a catfish😂😂 I was still pumped.
your channel is amazing i do not t even know how your only at 86k hope you hit that 1mill+ soon.
🙌 sweet he's back
Lawson out here killing the game like always 🔥
😱fly fishing mangroves! That’s on my bucket list! I’ve been to montana to catch trout and I’ve fished fly at my local ponds but never saltwater.

Hook2Cook come to Pensacola Florida. No mangroves but tons of grass flats and I’ll take you for free
With the shrimp fly, I find it that fish like it dead sticked with just the tiniest bit of movement as if the shrimp is digging into the sand to get away as this is a common defence strategy for them.
We missed ya, glad you feel better
Here's the b roll I came for 🍻 cheers Lawson!
That's awesome man I'm with you they're very underated fish most of the time people are fishing for food when they target them but I'd say in my opinion besides redfish they are my favorite fish to fish on flats or docks your right they fight sooo hard deff hard than sea trout but i love sheaphead i don't eat fish like you so i just love to catch them i personally love throwing live shrimp at them but hey sheapys on lures is hard for sure i actually have caught 2 on lures one on a doa jerkbait and the other on a yozuri but they're an awesome fish for sure I'd take a day of sheaphead in the 10-20" range over trout in the 15-25" range
Welcome back!
bro your videos are awesome
Thats so crazy how clear that water is, that red u were trying to get on the fly i could see it on the video moving
That is one hell of a nicely tied fly! I'll be getting a few!! You need to start changing things up and going after other species. That's what I did to keep things interesting...
Lawson you're the man
is it just me or does everyone else agree its just as matter of time time he blows up? keep up the grind bro!!!!
I totally understand you in that man! Sometimes it's the smallest trout of the day I get really stoked about because they are sometimes just so absurdly beautiful. How can you not be happy about a pristine 6 incher with blood red dots and fins? Better than any 16 inch fish by now.
welcome back !
Nice work! I throw flys on sheepys constantly. So hard to get them to eat..
I'm still learning to "strip set." Just yank the line to set the hook while leaving the rod pointing at the water. Lifting the rod to set the hook is usually a fail. (We call that a "trout set." )
“I watched it come out of the bushes and slurp my shrimp” Best line ever. Lol!
Can't believe I'm sitting in a snowstorm while you're living my dream on your boat
Wow! @7:20 you can clearly see that redfish! Awesome
Great session Lawson ,do you ever see American crocodiles where you fish?
I really like those penn clash reels. And the slammer III's are beasts!
Am I the only one who's waiting for Lawson to get million subs? Great content man, keep it this way, love your videos!
