Wow, I gotta get back up. In July of 2014 I had a weird (and wonderful) heavy snowfall start 1000 yards from the summit. I couldn't even get a picture by that sign, heck...I couldn't even see the sign at first. Ran into the gift shop there on top and couldn't even see the tram unloading from the shop doors... just everyone laughing and running for cover from the tram to the shop. It was cool, just made me a little nervous with the snowfall...i didn't stay at the summit very long either. But hey, great memories. I can't remember what I paid at the bottom, but I think those patches and the " I rode PP shirt " I got are some of my favorites of my motorcycle travels so far. Thanks for the memories...glad you guys had a good ride and back down.

@@ridetofood yeah, it was pretty crazy. As you said in your video...it was 85 in the Springs... it was really cold even with layers at the top. I admit it, I was nervous. I spent a long time doing dirt bike stuff off road...but a 900 pound Harley on street tires made for some pucker factor, lol. There was very little sticking...thankfully. it was just blowing in the air and after dropping down 1000 feet it was all just a memory. A great one. I also added some of your stops in the Smokies to my ride list. Thanks for all the hard work you do on these vids. Really is awesome.

Nice ride for sure. My wife and I rode up there on June 24, 1979! Back then the pavement stopped at the ranger station, then a dirt road to the summit. At that time, the summit sign said 14,110, now I noticed it said 14,115.... hmmm, it grew 5 ft over the years! Lol... your comments were spot on about the temps, etc... One more important thing to know... the weather can change quickly. Avoid afternoons, particularly during the summer. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent, especially when it is hot down below! I'm looking out my living room window at Pikes Peak from Divide. Plenty of snow and the winding lites seen at the end to of the day. I would add a few things to her list. On a motorcycle 1st gear on all hairpin turns. Cars/Trucks coming down sometimes go over the yellow line. Keep you cool and SLOW where you have torque. There's a place to park where you can get food half way up. The same place where the smokeys check the heat of your breaks as you come down. The peak is looking great. The visitors center is complete with food and views, gift shop and they are finishing off the large parking areas. She is a great rider and her ride looked bumpy in the sportster. I enjoy a much smoother ride on my Indian Scout. LOL

2 years ago on July 21st my two friends and I got stuck on Pikes Peak for 3 hours in a hail storm snow storm thunderstorm rainstorm. When we went through the gate at the bottom it was 85° and the park ranger said there was a little ice fog at the top. After 3 hours standing at 14000 feet the park rangers finally came and got us took us down to 8000 feet while we waited for the road to be plowed then they took us back up to the bikes

I've never been to Pikes Peak, but my newest ride is a 2014 Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak Edition. 🙂 Only been to CO once and I hadn't been in the state an hour before I had some unpleasant experiences in Grand Junction. Some jackass ran into me on purpose at a lane closure cuz he didn't like me merging and a shop there jacked up my bill and took all day to do unnecessary work instead of the scheduled half day, so I rode most of the trip from there to Redstone in the dark. After coming down the pass at dusk and coming across dozens of deer, I wasn't too excited about another hour plus in total darkness in such a remote area. I grew up riding twisties with wildlife, but still. I know not every person or every shop is like that, but those experiences left a bad taste in my mouth. I spent 3 or 4 days in the state and I did ride Independence Pass and the Million Dollar Highway. I stayed in Silverton, too. Cool little town. It was Sept and I had to leave real early cuz they were shutting down the road to Ouray. I think it was a little icy on the road, so I didn't get to enjoy much of the view. But my time in CO did get way better after the first 24 hours. The Peak looks like a classic tight switchback ride with some stellar views.

If I was brand new, I would have a SatComm system so that I could call out for help without cell signal handy. As you ride more, I would suggest learning the basics of motorcycling maintenance and learning so that you are comfortable working on your bike in a situation like this. Out of all the years and miles of riding i've done, i've always kept my bikes well maintained, and have had minimal issues when traveling. Things do happen, but if you're prepared, it's less often and easier to deal with usually. :)

Hot at the bottom and cold at the top. It’ll leave you speechless and most people won’t appreciate the pictures because you have to be there to appreciate it. Also *MAKE SURE YOU PURCHASE A SUMMIT PASS AHEAD OF TIME TO GUARANTEE YOU CAN GET TO THE TOP* if not you’re going to need to shuttle to the summit. Most people don’t know a summit pass is necessary and they have a summit schedule.

Definitely a fun road to ride but only IF you get lucky and it's not packed with tourists driving 10mph, which is unfortunately the norm. Rode it a handful of times and the traffic plus the $15 toll makes it a not so great choice for a weekend ride. But it's a must if you're not local for sure.

If you are a real flatlander and not from the mile high front range or higher areas, and or a bit older.... in addition to water, bring electrolytes and aspirin. If you start feeling really tired, getting a headache or feeling nauseous, take the aspirin and IMMEDIATELY start heading down the mountain to lower elevation. Altitude sickness is not to be taken lightly.
