Boston is old (for the US) going back 1630. Harvard, oldest US University, goes back to 1636. Obviously, compared to Paris…. First battles of the American Revolution were in Boston.

It looks like a beautiful place. I'd love to see all the history there. Thank you Marie! Love from Illinois. ❤

Welcome to my home city! Not everyone raised in Boston has the same accent - I could guess where that firefighter lived when he was a boy. My accent is similar, but not exactly the same. I've been waiting for this - no mountains or canyons, but probably the most European city in America. I live in a town on the southern border of the city, and there's a small stone monument to French soldiers who camped on the location on their way through during our Revolutionary War. The Museum of Fine Arts has a great French Impressionist painting collection, and the Boston Symphony introduced many French classical music pieces to America - there was a strong French cultural influence on the city. Also, many Second Empire Mansard roof buildings and houses.

Braintree? Milton? Quincy? No, they don't have the same accent. There's neighborhood variation. There's Brahmin, though that's rare now and probably headed for extinction. There are working class variations, vice what I term "Boston Superior" which is sort of upper middle class but not Brahmin. Sadly, the accent as a whole is dying out.

Boston's an unusual American city. You can walk around it. Also the architecture is great: "We built this three centuries ago and we see no reason to change it."

As a "Bostonian" (born and raised in the suburbs, but been there countless times), I absolutely agree. There's a reason one of our nicknames is "The Hub", because for a long time we were a major entry point for merchants and immigrants coming from Europe, and we were one of the largest cities in early-America, so we had a lot of European influences on our architecture and such. An incredibly cosmopolitan city that is quintessentially American, but with a strange flavor of a European city that is far more walkable than most U.S. cities. My favorite is the meme showing the grid lines of streets in New York and L.A., then it shows the winding/meandering Boston streets and just says "Boston street map: Because f*&k you!" HAHAHHA! Another oddity for us...very cosmopolitan, but crude as hell!

Fun fact: most people think Harvard is in Boston but it's not, it's in Cambridge, Ma which is Actually a suburb of Boston whereas cities like Charlestown home of old Ironsides (USS Constitution) is Boston sort of like Brooklyn is New York. The part of Boston you're in is what we call downtown it's like the city center and don't worry about understanding the accent that takes a while, many Americans have trouble with it also, especially when we forget to tone it down. I'm so happy you'll get to experience the history we grew up with and I hope you have a...........FrenchTastic time:)

Bienvenue a Boston Dans Ma Chausette! My hometown . . . I was actually born in the neighborhood that encompasses the airport. It's called East Boston and rivaled the North End many years ago for its Italian immigrants. I learned about this funny way of saying Massachusetts (Dans ma chausette) when I lived in Paris. Hope you had a great time. I love this city.

I’ve been to Boston several times, mostly for work training but I have had opportunities to explore the city a bit. I hope you were able to see the USS Constitution sailing ship. Also check out The Green Dragon, one of the oldest bars and the Union Oyster House, one of the oldest restaurants in the US. Also the Old North Church and Paul Revere House, the story where he saw the lanterns in the church and rode all night to warn the British are coming…. But we always appreciate you coming to America. :)

Edit: I will admit I haven’t been to the North End yet except for work (I am a nurse and see patients in their home) because it’s an absolute nightmare to drive in 😭 It’s so cute and I want to explore but it’s sooooo frustrating to navigate

Great, Marie. Congrats. My husband and I were once upgraded to fist class on an overseas trip at Christmas time. I thought I would never, ever want to fly in the back again, but that was the only time I did. The flight was full, the lines were long and an employee picked us up from the line and took us into the plane. I always thought it was because we were the only ones well-dressed, I think my husband was wearing a necktie. 👍

My hometown! I speak English, French and Boston. But no - I couldn't follow what that guy was saying either - his accent was especially strong - stronger than most. I feel **exactly** how you do when I touchdown in France - same exact sentiments but in the opposite direction. Yeah the road signs, the architecture, the sound of people talking. I've passed by the State House many, many times but don't think I've ever been inside it. I think I'd say Boston is my favorite city in the US (of course I'm biased) but haven't actually lived there for many decades.

The people of the United States and France have been blood brothers over all the years. Our societies are very intertwined. French soldiers fought right side by side Americans in the Revolutionary War. French sailors fought off the British in American coastal waters. We returned the Favor on WW1 and D Day. Guess who gave us the Statue of Liberty ? There is a lot of France in America and vice versa.

I don’t know if what makes them go into a life-saving field also makes them so amiable but most of the ones I’ve met are super friendly and open. @johnpasquale7095 I wasn't alive when the "too many men on the ice" game took place, but it was certainly one of the greatest chapters in the history of the Habs/Bruins rivalry. One game that I think we can both agree to was game 7 between the Bruins and Leafs, round 1 of the 2013 playoffs. The leafs were up 4-1, only to collapse with 11 minutes left to play and lose 5-4 in OT. That to me was an absolute joy to watch because I absolutely hate the leafs! One of the very rare times that I ever cheered for the Bruins.

Many years ago, in the Midwest, I thought the three American cities I most wanted to visit were New Orleans, San Francisco and Boston. I have seen the first two, now I need to take some time to visit Boston.

Boston always makes me think of that show Ally McBeal from the 90's. Don't know if you got that in France. Or you're probably too young to remember. Great show. Might be a fun watch if you're ever feeling nostalgic about the Northeast.

Boston is great and has the added bonus of being in spitting distance (by American standards) of a lot of great outdoor regions in Vermont and New Hampshire.

Woah, what a surprise to have you back already! You sure looked to be having lots of fun in first class!😂And that hostel looked pretty cool. I can't wait to experience one for the first time.🥳And as always, it's so sweet to hear your love of returning to the states every time.🤗

Hi there from Loveland. Happy your getting your walking in. I can't walk that far anymore. But give me a one speed bicycle and I'll ride everywhere. I'm betting you'll get used to the accent pretty fast. Have fun and remember to "Spring forward" on your watch this Sunday.

Some of the heavy Boston accents are hard for even us natives of Massachusetts, let alone visiting from another country lol. Looks like you had a great time! Come on back anytime, we're friendlier than people make us out to be.

I’m a little jealous - Boston is a US city that I have still never been to! (and I’m on the East Coast, only a 7 hour drive away) So much history there - I definitely want to check it out - and to catch a baseball game in Fenway Park!

My spiritual home! I grew up about 40 minutes drive northwest of Boston, and it still feels like home to me, even though I haven't lived there in 30 years.

Marie, it's always good to see you back here in the United States! I always love seeing the things you focus on and it was hilarious hearing your responses as the firefighter was talking. The accent is thick, but there are a lot of places it's actually worse. If you get up into northern New York in the Adirondack Mountains, the accent up there is really difficult for some to understand. The same goes for the Outer Banks islands in North Carolina. I'm glad you can see the history and that you got to go into the capital building. If you ever go to the Capital of Washington State, Olympia, you'll see that they have a nice capital building. All of the marble used in the capital building is from France. They used the marble as ballast as ships returned from France after dropping off supplies for World War One. I hope you get to see all the historical places in Boston. One thing is for certain, we have to find you an awesome Mustang to rent while you're here in the States! It's always good to see you out having fun, and I hope you keep smiling!
