She’s amazing. So young here and English isn’t even her first language. Love her.

You will find hundreds of thousands angles from around the world. Consider a child singing at the same time she is learning to talk. Is seen scrolling through KZread looking for Jazz artists to listen to at two going on three for hours. Is telling her mother she wants to sing on that Simon show at three. Enters school at four and enrolls in after school program taking music, piano, violin and flute. Is speaking three languages fluently at five and reading English. At five is studying music theory and practicing four to six hours per day six days per week. Family is trying to slow her down but she wants more. At five tells her Mother she wants to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. Try’s to audition for Norway’s Got Talent but is told she must be seven. Angelina Jordan Astar was born 1/10/2006 in Oslo, Norway Angelina is a music prodigy who started singing at the age of 18 months and won Norways got talent at the age of 8 (started competition at age 7 and won at age 8) Angelina is blessed to have a very special family that has watched over her while allowing her the freedom of being herself. One big thing that Mother, Sara Astair, insisted was that Angelina has as much of a normal life growing up as possible Sara and Angelina's uncle and manager, Michael Astar limited what performances Angelina would do sometimes saying no to over 90% of the requests even so Angelina has performed all over the world from age 8 to now age 17. Angelina plays the piano, guitar, violin, and flute and has sung in 5 languages, and has over 180 covers of all genres all of which will amaze you, Angelina has worked hard for children and humanitarian relief and was the youngest author in Norway with a book (Between two Hearts) a story of why she wears no shoes during a performance.

When have you ever heard of anyone that animated at that age to perform the song, not just sing the song. As you go along in your Angelina journey you will realize that the band does not give her room, she is in control of how they accompany her, that’s what makes her a prodigy, she is the artist and she displays her artistry!

Nick, "Welcome to the wonderful world of Angelina Jordan!" She was 9 years old. Btw, she helped the band with the arrangement of the song. They call her 'the boss' and said she's been a pleasure to work with! Prodigy, of course, and if you choose to listen to more of her (she's now 17) you will experience an emotional explosion which you never realized you had inside you! In time you will find out not only is she incredibly talented with a voice so soulful and full of love she has also been described by some musicians in the industry as a musical genius. Guys who have played for Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart and on and on. Some of her fan base (her 'angels') will be sending you all kinds of data (playlists and bio's ) about her. This song, to say the least, was a very unique Masterpiece (if you will) but if you join all of us from around the world on her journey you will find out the shock factor will be replaced by something much different. The next song you react to will shock you again, because she not only has a very wide vocal range but a range of tones and a full complement of vocal techniques. She arranges her own music. Her covers are always respectful tributes to the original artists. She is a natural empath with an understanding of human emotions she has yet to experience herself. She is also a linguist in Norwegian, English, Farsi, and perhaps others, an instrumentalist in guitar, violin, flute, and a true humanitarian. And she is humble to boot. She is a great vocalist, of course, but an outstanding human being above all.

Nice reaction; I subscribed. Continue your shock knowing that this is 9 year old Angelina's own arrangement without extensive professional music or singing lessons. Her school DOES have a well developed music program with a recording studio. I'd say her biggest influence has been her maternal grandmother Mery, who has exposed Angelina to jazz greats from birth. A nice first reaction! Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" Not only that, but she received the copyrights for her version of this song from Queen, which makes it hers now. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity. Now 17 years old, living in Los Angeles, and is signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Yes, first shock, then disbelief. So so fun to watch.

The notes she wrote at the beginning were last minute adjustments she was making to the arraingment. The producer said he smiled because she called the adjustments her wishes. The vocal and musical arraingments were Angelina's interpretation of Screaming Jay Hawkins version. Four of the five band members had played with Angelina at a few concerts previously. Notice the stand up bass player smiling at the beginning. He knew what was about to happen. Angelina started her education at a performing art school in Oslo at the age of 4. When they heard her sing they didn't want to interfere with her talent. They worked with her on some warm up exercises, breathing and techniques to protect her vocal chords. Most of what Angelina does is self taught. At school she learned to play the piano, guitar, flute and violin. She speaks four languages, 3 very fluently. Also she is the youngest published author in Norway's history. At age 8 or 9 she wrote a book "Between two Hearts". It is a story of why she performs barefooted. Her singing is beautiful and who she is as a person is even better. One other thing that just amazes me how she can adjust her timbre to the song and style she is singing.

Yes, the Mozart comparison came to my mind very early in listening to her, especially once I realized how much she is involved in the arrangements. In my humble opinion, this may be the best vocal performance by anyone ever, regardless of age. Nice reaction, thank you.

While Angelina reigns in the singing part of the music world, Alma is a composer and virtuoso at piano and violin. Both have their goal to bring joy and beauty into this world, both began unbelievably young, both have already accomplished enormous amounts in their musical journeys, both have at heart and act on their caring for humanity with benefits. Angelina was 2 months past her 9th birthday here - and she arranged the whole thing herself, it was performed according to her wishes (in the intro she is scribbling some changes and the producer is viewing her crumpled notes with a slight grin). Apparently the band fondly called her "the boss". She was not bossy, but constantly consulted with these seasoned musicians about the arrangement. There is another video around, with Angelina and the same band jamming around with Screaming Jay Hawkin's "Portrait of a Man" - which Angelina aptly modified - as she does - as "Portrait of a Child"! There one can see and hear the interaction between Angelina and the band. The dialog is in Norwegian, so I recommend turning on the subtitles, which are in English.

Angelina doesn't have a band. These are really great session musicians. Can you imagine rolling up to your gig and asking what's the plan? Oh, we're doing a jazz standard and these is Angelina our singer. 😅😊 By the end of the making of the video all these musicians affectionately called her "the boss" because of her composure and demand for her arrangement and "wishes".❤😊

It’s always great when someone knowledgeable about music encounters Angelina for the first time. She’s 9 here, 17 today. I’m in my 70’s and have followed music all my life. Angelina is easily the best singer I’ve ever heard. You’ll get scores of comments-all true-about how great Angelina is, so I’ll try to give you one that I think will amaze you. Angelina never sang this song in the same way again. This was a one-off in the recording studio. And the voice that you heard is the one she chose to deliver this old school bluesy version-which she arranged herself. You just have to start listening. She will amaze you dozens of times as she did today in many different genres. Her voice now can be completely mesmerizing. If you want to see Angelina stun an audience and judges into silence, watch her cover (again, her own arrangement) of Bohemian Rhapsody, at 13, on America’s Got Talent. They are in two different genres' of music Angelina basically anything that catches her fancy she started with Jazz, but she has been singing herself along a timeline that is flexible as she has sampled everything from Billie Holiday to Queen with a stay with Amy Winehouse and Elvis Presley. The other young lady is Daneliya Tuleshova of Kazakhstan, a speck of a girl but with a voice full of power and emotion. Before you ask yes she knows Dimash. They are not besties, nor did Dimash mentor her. They admire each others talents, even to the point Dimash called her a National Treasure. They have performed on the same stage for national programs, but not necessarily at the same time. I am going to give you Daneliya's blind audition for The Voice Kids Ukraine 2017 when she was just 10. I am giving you the one with English subtitles. Pay attention from the start because you get much information there. I'm going to let Daneliya take over from here because only hearing will make you understand what the big deal is. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Enjoyed your reaction, Nick🙂. Angelina is gifted..a prodigy. In this performance, she unabatedly, fearlessly jumps into it. Being equipped with a very high level of musicality, accomplished breathing techniques, a tool box full of vocal ornaments, mastery of lyrical interpretation and an undeniable passion to sing... It's impossible NOT to be dumbfounded by what you hear...Her band calls her "The Boss"... there's plenty of videos showing her actively participating in round table discussions with them...or bringing up where an orchestra went wrong to the director... She knows EXACTLY what the music should be.. and has the pipes to fully meet the high standards she holds dear. I've reviewed the comments and full articles/ biographies of her career to this point... IMO, it's her PASSION to sing, to write music (Yes, she's recorded some of them), to let her vast understanding of music composition & creativity run it's "meant to be" course. I have listened to her every day for 8 years as she has grown. The only artist I have been able to do this with. She is addictive because you never know what you will get. She has learned complete control of the nuances and texture of her voice by singing all the greats, almost every genre. She can go from dirty grit and rasp of her 13 year old Etta James cover ID RATHER GO BLIND to pure classical of last years MY FUNNY VALENTINE. Last year she opened a jazz concert with a Labyrinth number MOUNT EVEREST. you should listen to her Adele Covers of last year ALL I ASK and EASY ON ME. If you want her origionals try the one she wrote and sung at 12 SHIELD, at 15 MILLION MILES ,also 7th HEAVEN. Please do not miss out on her early covers. There are many live jazz concerts. Thank you for this reaction. That last phrase: a staggering 14 seconds long.... I was thinking 'who is pumping air in that little girl?'. Angelina's breath control is out of this World and, being a hobby chorister myself, I have so much respect for her: the breath, the voice, the talent to convey emotions to the audience... it's all there. And if that's not enough: Angelina herself is involved in a lot of the arrangements for the instruments since she was 7 years of age. In fact she is a full-fledged musician since that early age already. As a judge in Norway Got Talent did put it, back in 2013: "Angelina, you ARE music". I think that lady was right.

I think your comment about her voice being hypnotizing is spot on. It’s so hypnotically mesmerizing, just like the sirens from The Odyssey, you can’t not listen to her. Her voice is so compelling resistance is futile. You get sucked into the vortex unimaginably beautiful sound and can’t escape until she lets you go. And that’s a good thing.

Yeah..she usually stuns her prey before she sings their face off! And this would be impossible at 7yo - Angelina is 9yrs and two months here! Great reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (160+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice! If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40-piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come. Why God has performed the miracle of touching the world with one of such talent, musical IQ, commitment, and generosity as Angelina we can wonder but we must all marvel. Welcome aboard the AJ train! It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! Angelina is writing final changes to the performance at the beginning (they are referred to as her "wishes") which the director then reads. "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and again listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). Angelina 9 yo. Look at her! She controls the entire recording. She has the power and ability to carry this out. The fact that she then has an outstanding fantastic voice and theatrical body language only makes everything even better. The musicians are also amazingly good. They give everything to complete this masterpiece! This little Norwegian girl reads the English lyrics while singing! She is from Norway and they speak Norwegian there. English is Angelina's 3rd language! Already at 5-6 years old, she understands exactly what is meant in the English lyrics! Incredible! A genius at work. This is one of her most attention getting, so skillful and energetic at 9 years old. With her we learn the rendition of the song is one level of appreciation but her breath control and skilled vocals takes us to another level. Good reaction.

@@nickforell1 As I hope you will soon discover, this growling, shouting style was just for this crazy song, she doesn't it in any other cover. Her approach is always to replicate the feeling of the original while giving it her personal makeover. If you are truly a fan of this old school stuff, you are really in for a treat. It's a Man's World, Cry Me a River, on and on.. and she covers Adele like nobody else.

It is so much fun when a knowledgeable young reactor discovers Angelina this way. It is obvious that you can see, hear, and appreciate all the things this little girl can do with her voice. I hope you take a deep dive and explore more from Angelina. This is a masterwork, of course, but you'll see she never fails to captivate every time she gets out of the gate. She is 17 now, stunning and every bit as amazing as she was at 9, with 8 more years worth of experience. 😎

Since I found her I listen to her daily. Hypnotizing is a great word for it. I feel she strips me of any cognitive reactions and the quality of her voice just hits me straight in the emotional core.

New subscriber - thanks to your great reaction to & appreciation of this amazing Angelina performance (which she also arranged) - at age 9. Now 17 - Angelina Jordan from Norway has well over 180 covers & some original songs readily available on KZread. But - in order to better understand her musical roots & early influencers, I highly recommend her Norway's Got Talent audition singing Gloomy Sunday - at age 7. Another fan favorite is her America's Got Talent audition singing Bohemian Rhapsody - at age 13. Shortly after being on AGT, Angelina signed a contract with Republic Records - at age 14. Her 1st release was a very heartfelt song - Million Miles. I highly recommend her live studio version. Thank you. And may GOD continue to watch over & bless Angelina Jordan.

@@nickforell1 You're welcome. And I'm sure you'll hear from many Angelina fans that as great a singer as she is, she's even a better person. For example - why she always performs barefoot. (You can hear her explanation in her own words in her interview with Anne Lindmo NRK TV right after she had released her book - also around age 9. Btw- that made her the youngest published author in Norway. :)

Awesome reaction and you Loving Jazz, you just found the Best Rabbit Hole possible! She has 190 songs in her catalog with 9 songs that were released 1st before anyone else. Depending on your definition of an Original, she was involved in writing/composing 5 of them from age 10 to 15. They were "What Is Life" (10), "Oslo" (11), "Shield"(12) and under Republic Records, "Million Miles"(14) written to honor her Grandfather who had just passed and a positive song "7th Heaven"(15). She had 2 written for her voice at age 13, "Above The Water" and "A Song For A". At age 10 she was asked to do a Demo, "I'm Still Holding Out For You" and was leaked at age 12 before the writer of the song released his version. If you listen to his you can see he used her arrangement, in which she does for all her songs since age 7. Finally at age 17 she sang a Duet with Red One who wrote the song at the FIFA 2022 Awards Ceremony held on 23 February 2023, "We Are The Best". Her 10th will be released in about a week, supposed to be a 1960's vibe. There are over 300 videos to react to, so enjoy the journey and God Bless!

When she signed with Republic Records at 14 they went with Angelina's family request to not promote her heavily until she finishes high school (this year) so she could have a 'relatively' normal childhood. She is to release album this year .. 'Retro 60's music' I believe. Oh .. and at 17 she is a very tall girl .. I have seen suggestions that she is 6'1" .. a guess I think based on her standing next to people who's height is known. Ethnically .. her father is Swedish, her mother Norwegian. Her maternal grandparents are an Iranian grandmother (also a prodigy .. artist and poet) and a Japanese grandfather (at some point you will listen to her original "A Million Miles" which is a tribute to him).

A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice. She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. You mention Angelina’s tone. She makes me believe that Homer knew about legends of some long lost singing techniques when he described the Sirens that Ulysses encountered in the Odyssey, and Angelina rediscovered them. Her singing is addictive.

Her versatility is off the charts & she can sing any song in any style from any era of music you want (except no opera yet). With this reaction, I am expecting some more Angelina reactions very soon. To that end, I subscribed. Many Angelina fans (self proclaimed Angels) here will offer selections from her huge catalogue. Jump in, every note that comes from her vocals is perfect, from age 18 months old, and even when she insists on singing against doctor’s advice while ill. She is the barefoot princess of Jazz, with 1000 voices, singing in any genre.

I'm 59 and discover AJ on youtube about 2 years ago and have been hooked ever since. There's many other young up and coming musical artists out there, and they are good..but there's something unique and special about AJ tho.. In my lifetime I've never felt this way about an up and coming artist before..And believe you me, I've seen and heard A LOT in my years. I've enjoyed many genre of music, but AJ singlehandedly made me enjoy jazz like never before..You can feel she was born with musical notes running thru her veins. Her humility makes her so endearing to me and to her fans around the world...Even if she doesn't single note of music ever again, she is STILL a very beautiful person inside. She truly have captured my heart with her voice, her looks, her demeanor and the person that she is...Great reaction my friend, cheers..

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with the same band at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. - The Barefoot Princess - (From her book, television and radio interviews, and podcasts made between 2014-2015. Includes excerpts from her diary made that day in 2012.) Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them. Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina has performed alongside many other artists, raising attention and helping to raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars for children in need.

Right from when I first heard her seven years ago, I've been more intrigued by what Angelina is trying to do with her voice than what she actually does. She heard and tried to reproduce techniques that most infants would not even hear. At times her physiology blocked the messages her brain had been sending but she persevered, seemingly recognising all the time that this would be a temporary state of affairs. Then there's her creativity. She has taken songs which have been covered by hundreds of singers and yet, scarcely into her teens, has been able to come up with unique renditions which often shift the originals' sentiments. She sings covers like an impressionist paints; you may not immediately recognise it but how do you feel about it? Soon we will apparently be able to judge her ability to write a whole album's worth of material. If someone in their mid-teens, with the limited life experience that entails, can engage her mature audience with her writing then I'll call it early - she is a bona fide multi-faceted genius. My advice would have been to get some good writers on board but nobody will be happier than me to be proved wrong when she turns out to match the likes of a Carole King, Cynthia Weil or Linda Creed as a composer on top of her elite vocal ability.
