Another game that would be cool to try out would be FTL: Faster Than Light. It is a rogue-like game in which you act as a spaceship captain controlling how your ship's power is distributed, what your crew does and what rooms of enemy ships your weapons target with the goal of trying to flee from the evil Rebellion to save the Federation.

StS and FTL are probably my two favourite roguelites so I definitely second this. Shotgun King is another one I've sunk many hours into, and recently Balatro ofc.

Carl, playing a swords and magic RPG: "Hmm... tank build." Carl, playing a card game with limited healing: "DPS! DPS! DPS!"

"I should have gone with..." is what makes roguelikes sooooo addictive, imo. That said, Balatro and/or Slice & Dice might bring you joy.

Honestly this is a pretty based Ironclad deck. Carl took so many meme cards like Clash, Anger, and Perfected Strike, plus the pure aggro strats feel like peak Clad gameplay.

Carl that was one HELL of a first run! Congrats! It was super interesting watching your pathing, card evaluation and balancing of energy/card draw. Very impressive for a first time Spire slayer.

I love looking at the chat whenever carl asks a question, a bunch of messages pop up and get removed immediately

Carl every turn: "That's gonna hurt I need to block..." "...well... We can do a boat load of damage"

I have over 1500 hours played in StS... I haven't watched your videos lately just because I got burned out on Mario content in general... But this is something I will watch. Nice

Yo I'm so hype for this! StS is my favourite roguelike/lite. After hearing about Carl playing MtG and the Inscryption playthrough, I know he'll love StS

This game is so good. Probably 500 hours for me across all platforms

Pretty well played for a first-ever run. Apart from the obvious error late in the run, the only suggestion I'd add would be based on a mechanic I don't think Carl realized: when Anger is upgraded, the duplicates it makes are upgraded as well, making it MUCH more efficient.

Here's a roguelike you won't have heard of - Peglin. It's a Pachinko/Peggle deckbuilding roguelike where you collect different orbs to use. Very fun and would recommend. It also has a lot of very bad puns.

I'm honestly not a fan. The two systems (combat and peggle) are not well combined. Many of the items you get lack flavor and the synergies are fairly surface level. The graphics are also pretty bland, with a good few of the items using stock assets.

@@whackareal Early access is often just an excuse for a mediocre game. I find it unlikely that my main concerns will be fixed upon full release. I could be wrong though.

This was great! I love how many small details Carl picked up on his first run. He's better at the game first try than I was on my tenth run!

Damn with all the feel no pains, dark embrace on sale, true grits, fiend fire, and corruption that first one would have been a perfectly built exhaust deck. Never any way of knowing early on though and was a great run!!

Whoever said that Slay the Spire is the original Deckbuilding Roguelike never played Dream Quest or Hand of Fate. While it is true that StS popularized the loop it's far from the first.

Luck be a Landlord also rocks on mobile

with 3 fights left, that "I am Awake" from Mind Bloom even would've been AMAZING. You had so many unupgraded cards. Plus it does Searing Blow once more! No healing is harsh but the amount of extra oomph your deck would've gotten would've been worth it imo.

"Perfected Strike" counting as a "Strike" because "Strike" is in the name makes it really silly if you get lucky and pick up a lot of them.

They're even better when upgraded too. They fall off late game though, especially because you typically want to remove the normal strikes from the deck since the starter cards are so weak

My personal favorite deckbuilder is actually Griftlands, mainly because you have two separate decks for two separate battle types.

You will probably love this game but I can't imagine a single game more likely to cause chat to interact with you in a way you would personally hate based on history. Don't let your mental hangups ruin a game this good. Probably don't play with chat, or switch to sub only, or something I don't know. Or maybe you'll be fine, but you deserve at least the warning.

Inscryption he didn't enjoy the end of the game and deleted the vod; for TotK he's gotten too excited by playing a bunch of other stuff; and Elden Ring and Ocarina of Time he loved, but a bunch of villainous backseating chatters ruined the experience for him and he doesn't want to stream the rest of them.

It's a little frustrating that mods were removing chats mentioning UI quirks that players can't really be expected to notice. Carl even mentioned he didn't mind spoilers. It's also not backseating. Seems unjustified to me.

I getcha. I get frustrated by that sometimes too. But it's ultimately a "his stream, his rules" thing, and the mods may not necessarily know a lot about the game so they might want to stay on the safe side regarding backseating, so I understand their side. If you can figure out how to just enjoy streams for what they are rather than feeling frustrated by the streamer not understanding a thing and/or the mods being stricter than you'd like, I find it's a lot better experience.

@@melephs_cap I'm fine with carl making mistakes, what's frustrating is the inconsistent policy. Joseph anderson, for example, will just not look at chat if he wants to avoid spoilers for a game, so chat can discuss with full spoilers all they want. Bananasaurus rex has a strict no-backseating rule which is enforced consistently, so that he can read chat. And there are a plethora of streamers who allow advice but not direct backseating. If the stream was supposed to be the third one, it frustrates me seeing mods punish people for behaving within reason. I personally am not affected, since I don't catch the streams live, but it's more of a principle thing. Having inconsistent moderation rules only serves to create more situations where people give advice that toes the line.
